Nuendo 3

New Features in Nuendo 3.2

Control Room and Headphone Bus

Nuendo 3.2 sports dedicated output busses for control room and headphone monitoring. Control room settings do not influence the main mix output.

Four Separate Monitor Setups

Four freely configurable monitor setups let you quickly toggle among different auditioning systems. Options include fold-back as well as useful solo functions such as Solo to Center and Back to Front for Surround environments.

Inputs for External Sources

You can quickly select up to six playback inputs for external signal sources such as DAT, CD and tape decks, and route them to any desired studio, headphones or control room bus.

Four Studio Busses

Four Studio Busses

You are free to create individual sub-mixes for up to four separate studios. Every audio, group or effect channel in the Nuendo Mixer offers new studio sends with dedicated volume and panorama controls as well as a Pre Fader/Post Fader switch.

Talkback Function

The talkback circuit lets you communicate directly with speakers or artists in each of the connected studios. Automatic dimming prevents feedback. You also have a switch available for manual dimming – simply press it to instantly reduce the control room level.

Separate Click Bus

A dedicated click bus lets you patch the metronome signal to any studio, headphone or control room bus, whereby volume and panorama may be adjusted individually.

Key Command for Main Mix to Studio Bus

A simple key command is all it takes to route the main mix to each studio. Once this is accomplished, you will find it easy accommodate the speaker/artist’s wishes and adjust the mix accordingly.

Extended Support for Hardware Controllers

With the benefit of   WK's Audio ID Controller, you can manipulate all new control room features directly (with Nuendo 3.2, this feature is also available for OSX). The ID Controller comprises all the required hardware control features.   Euphonix's EuCon Adapter has been extended for Nuendo 3.2 and now also supports dual joysticks for controlling Surround panners in Nuendo.

db-relative Fallback Time Display

The Fallback Time display now indicates values relative to dB. The idea here is to prevent display values from falling too quickly, particularly at the lower end of the scale.

Enhanced Sample Rate Conversion

The quality of sample rate conversion has been improved to minimize aliasing effects and maximize the accuracy of sample material conversion.

Normalize Function in the Mix Converter

The Mix Converter sports a nifty new Normalize function. Now if you wish equalize the output signal and input signal levels, you can simply activate Normalize mode.

New Global Presets

A new preset option lets you determine how Nuendo handles imported video files. Extracting Audio or Generating Thumbnail Cache may be activated and deactivated globally. Another preset option lets you determine on a global scale if the Send Routing Panner is linked to the Channel Panner. Gone are the days where you had to adjust this setting for every project.

Extended Always on Top Option

The Always on Top option lets you define windows that always remain to the fore within the application. It is now also available for the VST Connections and Plug-in Information windows.

New Features in Nuendo 3.1

Audio Pull Up/Down

Audio Pull Up/Down

The new audio Pull Up/Down function matches audio playback speed changes of 4% and 0.1 % (as well as combinations thereof). It comes in very handy when you find it necessary to adapt audio recordings’ speed for movie and TV productions via the Telecine process or when converting NTSC to PAL/SECAM.

HDTV Frame Rates

Now that it supports additional frame rates, Nuendo is ready to handle the ever more popular HDTV format.

Extended Network Functions

Though the previous version’s unique network functionality was already quite compelling, you’ll be delighted to learn that it has been enhanced in Nuendo Version 3.1. Now supporting Marker tracks, it also offers a new Transfer Status window and an Online Merge function that lets you quickly combine selected tracks of local as well as networked projects.

Protection Against Data Loss

Nuendo 3.1 reduces the risk of data loss caused by calamities such as a power failure during recording. To this end, header information is added to the audio file at regular intervals during recording so that Nuendo is able to restore recorded parts after a crash. The Auto Save function has also been improved; now you can determine how many backup files are generated.

MacOS X Performance Optimization

Full Mac OS X Quartz 2D support ensures Nuendo benefits from all legacy and future Apple implementations geared to improve graphics performance.

Video Thumbnail Pre-Cache

This new option serves to compute a video track’s thumbnail images and archive them on hard disk so that you can load and view them that much quicker further down the production trail.

Workflow Improvements

Many, many details have been enhanced to help you work at an even faster pace in Nuendo 3.1. These include synchronized track views in the Mixer and Project windows, as well as the new Enlarge Selected Track mode that when selected, automatically zooms up a track in the Project window.

Equal Power Panorama Control

The new Equal Power panner automatically balances out the differences in level resulting from panorama position changes and enables smooth pan sweeps across the stereo or Surround image.

Auto Edit for 9-Pin Devices

Version 3.1 now also offers an Auto Edit function for the Nuendo Time Base Synchronizer. Beyond that, the Auto Edit function for all 9-Pin devices has been extended to accommodate Pre-Roll and Post-Roll values.

Euphonix’s EuCon Protocol

Support for the Euphonix’s EuCon Protocol

Nuendo 3.1 is the first Nuendo version to integrate seamlessly into studios equipped with Euphonix’s MC or System 5-MC via the EuCon interface. Developed by seasoned Steinberg programmers and marketed worldwide exclusively by Euphonix, EuCon ensures flawless integration of top-drawer hardware and software.

Optimized Media Management

Media management has been optimized and now comprises freely definable Event Attributes for creating your own sound databases, as well as an enhanced search function offering extensive search options that help you find the events you are seeking even more quickly. A convenient Renaming function makes it easy to swiftly rename multiple clips, regions and events at a time.

Warp to Picture Function

Adapting audio to video has never been as easy as with the new Warp to Picture function. Whether you wish to fine-tune dialogs or adapt music to pictures, the new real-time Audio Stretch algorithm lets you do both quickly and conveniently.

X-Send Integration

X-Send is on board so you can import projects directly from Liquid Video Editing applications.

AFL/PFL

Alongside the legacy Solo function, Nuendo now features an AFL/PFL option for the mixing console. If you press a channel’s L (Lists) button, you can hear the signal via the Audition bus without affecting your routing or mix bus.

Pull Up/Down

The new Pull Up/Down 0.1% option is now integrated in Quicktime Video Player as well as DirectX Player to make it very easy for you to adjust video playback speed. When video files have been treated with the NTSC Telecine process, this function lets you “pull” them back or down to match the original audio recordings.

External FX Plug-ins

External FX plug-ins enable you to integrate digital or analog hardware effect devices directly into the Audio VST*** Mixer. Now you can use your favorite hardware as a plug-in - of course, with automatic latency compensation.

MixConvert Plug-in

MixConvert is a new plug-in for converting one Surround format into another. It carries out the entire down-, cross- and even up-mixing process fully automatically. You have various setting options at your disposal to tweak the new mix to taste.

Part-based Volume Envelopes

New part-based volume envelopes afford you direct control over dynamic response. These new envelopes move along with events, making it even easier to adjust volume levels.

MIDI Device Maps/Panels

MIDI Device Maps/Panels afford you direct access to external MIDI hardware via freely definable graphical knobs. Feel free to import preprogrammed VST Mixer Maps or create your own control panels - even in the Track Inspector and the mixer channel strip.

Studio Connections Total Recall

With the benefit of Yamaha Studio Manager 2’s Total Recall capability, you can summon up all the settings on external hardware such as mixers, audio interfaces and effect processors, provided that these support the Studio Connections standard.
