Steinberg Releases Driver Update for MR816 CSX/X
Steinberg is pleased to announce a new driver update for the MR816 CSX and MR816 X Advanced Integration DSP Studios. The new version enhances compatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows Vista running on systems with more than 4 GB of RAM installed.
To guarantee stable driver performance on Vista 64, the 1.2.1 version includes an additional feature in the form of a safety buffer. This buffer is added to input channels on systems running 64-bit Vista with over 4 GB of RAM installed if Direct Monitoring is not activated. This means that for these systems, Direct Monitoring should always be activated. Please note that on systems with this configuration, the additional safety buffer is not added for signals from the Cubase VST Mixer such as audio tracks or VST instruments loaded in Cubase, for example. These tracks or VST instruments will be played back normally using only the buffer size set by the driver.
The size of the safety buffer is equivalent to 20 ms and varies according to the sample rate:
- 44.1 kHz: 882 samples
- 48 kHz: 960 samples
- 88.2 kHz: 1,764 samples
- 96 kHz: 1,920 samples
For 64-bit Vista systems running less than 4 GB of RAM, the driver functions in the same way as for 32-bit systems, with no additional buffer applied.
The 1.2.1 version driver automatically configures itself accordingly to use the additional safety buffer only if needed. Further enhancements to support for 64-bit editions of Vista will be incorporated into further driver updates in the future.
