Steinberg opens new education initiative

First Steinberg Reference School marks new Public Private Partnership in Germany to support music technology in education

Hamburg, April 6 2006 - Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH is pleased to announce the opening of the first Steinberg Reference School in Hamburg Germany. Providing a digital music training resource specifically for music teachers in public education for the Hamburg region, the Steinberg Reference School is a new Public Private Partnership designed to raise awareness of the possibilities of digital music production technologies in public education.

Commenting on the new project ahead of today’s opening ceremony for the new digital music production rooms at the school, Lars-Oliver Meding, Steinberg’s Education Coordinator, introduces the new project: “Working with PCs and music software is often more familiar to students than to music teachers,” comments Lars-Oliver Meding, Steinberg’s Education Coordinator. “Our main aim is to help overcome reservations on the part of teachers and offer practical yet flexible new ways of working with these products within a school education environment,” continues Meding. “We want to offer music teachers a new perspective on digital audio products, showing the myriad possibilities in an environment that is familiar,” Meding adds.

The first Steinberg Reference School is the Gesamtschule Horn, a publicly-funded school with a strong focus on modern music, located in the German city of Hamburg. Steinberg plans to include further high schools throughout Germany in the scheme, expanding to other parts of the country in the future.
