Virtual Instruments and Effects
Designed to put a full-fledged virtual studio at your fingertips, Cubase SX3 features a variety of virtual instruments and a complete set of effect plug-ins for mixing, mastering and creating imaginative sound effects. In addition, many reputable audio software vendors offer effects and virtual instruments in VST or DirectX* Format that plug right into Cubase.
If you import a project from another system, a dummy plug-in automatically replaces any plug-ins lacking in Cubase SX3. When you export the project back to the initial system, the plug-ins are automatically reloaded. Cubase SX3 compensates for delays throughout the signal path to ensure proper synchronization and timing regardless of the employed plug-ins’ latency. * PC only
VST Instruments
A1 Virtual Analog Synthesizer
Classic analog synthesizers inspired the A1. A polyphonic instrument, it is based on legendary Waldorf synthesizer technology.
Embracer - Surround-enabled String Synthesizer
Embracer is an easy-to-use polyphonic synthesizer developed especially for generating string pads and other accompaniment sounds. A special feature is the instrument’s additional Surround output. The dynamically adjustable Width parameter lets you create very impressive 360° Surround sounds.
Monologue
A monophonic synthesizer, Monologue offers a rich sonic spectrum without heavily burdening the processor. It is the perfect choice of synthesizer for bass, lead and sequencer sounds.
Reverb Plug-ins
Reverb A and Reverb B offer typical reverb effects, replete with warm tone at low processor loads. A powerful reverb plug-in, RoomWorks may be employed for stereo and Surround formats. It conjures realistic audio images of rooms small and large using early to very late reflections. The CPU load can be adjusted to suit your system
Delay Plug-ins
DoubleDelay generates two separate delays that can be synched up to the song tempo on demand, while the ModDelay plug-in lets you modulate these delays.
Distortion Plug-ins
Distortion plug-ins put a wide range of distortion effects at your fingertips. DaTube conjures the typical warm, fat sound of a tube amplifier, while Overdrive emulates a guitar amp. QuadraFuzz is a high-end distortion effect. Its frequency spectrum is divided into four bands, and you can adjust each band’s gain and distortion level individually.
Dynamics Plug-ins
The Dynamics plug-in is a highly advanced dynamics effect comprising three separate processors - Autogate, Compressor and Limiter. These offer a vast range of dynamic editing functions. The multi-band compressor allows compression on up to five freely adjustable frequency bands.
Magneto simulates analog tape saturation and overdrive with amazing authenticity. The plug-in is an excellent choice for enhancing individual sounds or entire recordings with added warmth, punch, brilliance and analog authenticity. The SPL DeEsser is based on the algorithms of the renowned hardware vendor SPL. With this easy-to-use processor, you can eliminate sibilants in vocal track, quickly and efficiently.
Filter Plug-ins
Q is a high-quality parametric four-band stereo equalizer. With two fully parametric midrange frequency bands, it lets you EQ the frequency spectrum with surgical precision. For creative sound processing tasks, you have the StepFilter at your disposal. This pattern-driven filter serves to generate rhythmic, pulsating filter effects.
Tonic is based on the Monologue synthesizer’s filter design. Offering variable filtering characteristics and powerful modulating functions, it is a great tool for all contemporary musical styles. Tonic endows every audio recording with added vitality and musical expressiveness - without excessively burdening the processor.
Modulation Plug-ins
Complementing the classic Chorus, the Symphonic plug-in combines a chorus effect with a stereo spread and an auto-panner that synchronizes with the song tempo.
The Flanger and Phaser are on board to provide further classic modulation effects.
The Rotary plug-in simulates the archetypal effect of one or more rotating speakers as frequently used for organ sounds. Steinberg's powerful variant offers a separately variable woofer and tweeter with a variable crossover frequency and adjustable microphone positions to boot.
Alongside the conventional Ringmodulator plug-in, which lets you shape a signal using amplitude modulations, you have Tranceformer at your disposal. This ring modulator effect modulates the amplitude of incoming audio material via an internal variable frequency oscillator, thereby generating complex distortion of the harmonic spectrum.
Surround Plug-ins
Mix6To2 lets you adjust the level of up to six Surround channels and mix them down to a stereo output signal. The pop-up menu provides a selection of standard speaker configurations for different Surround formats. Offering a graphical view of the speaker configuration and the sound source, the SurroundPan plug-in lets you dynamically position audio material in the Surround field.
Other Effect Plug-ins
If you’re looking for hip lo-fi effects, look no further than the Bitcrusher and Grungelizer plug-ins. Bitcrusher reduces an audio signal’s bit rate, while Grungelizer adds hiss and ambient noise to recordings. The UV22 HR is a plug-in featuring a dither algorithm developed by Apogee. Rounding out its effects arsenal, Cubase SX3 offers a classic Vocoder as well as Chopper, a combination tremolo and auto-pan effect.
