The entire signal path in Nuendo is laid out for multi-channel sound. Every input bus, audio channel, return effect, group channel and output bus can contain up to 12 speaker channels. And with that, Nuendo is equipped to handle all standard Surround format prevailing today, such as LCRS, 5.1/6.1/7.1 and even 10.2.

Rather than being limited to mono or stereo signals, the AUX sends in the Nuendo Mixer adapt to suit the format of the audio channel. Case in point: If you select Surround 5.1 for the audio channel, the corresponding AUX send will also adopt this format. Of course, all the real-time conversion tools are available at the AUX send and many other places in the signal path so that you can readily resolve format discrepancies within the Nuendo Mixer.

All you have to do to set up Nuendo for recording in Surround is define an input bus that has the same format as the incoming Surround signal. You are free determine if the recorded multi-channel file is generated in Split or Interleaved format and process and edit it later as a single file.

Of course, the Nuendo Mixer is able to distinguish multi-channel audio from stereo or mono signals and lets you reconfigure all important connecting points in the mixer. Even if the multi-channel configuration varies within a project, track or effect, you can still edit it quickly using numerous tools such as Panners, Down-Mixers and Mix Converters.

Once a project is completed, the integrated Matrix Encoder and Decoder ensure full compatibility with the LCRS format. And with the optionally available Dolby Digital and DTS Encoders, you’ll find it very easy to encode Nuendo projects in the two popular Surround formats Dolby digital and DTS.
