Question: I am an owner of Clean! 4.x/5.x and Cubase SX. If I start Clean! 4.x/5.x I get an error message that the “PlugIn xxx” could not be initialized because it needs Cubase SX.
Answer: Please note that your system has two “VSTPlugIns” folders. One hierarchically higher folder (x:\progam files\Steinberg\VstPlugins) and one lower Cubase SX folder (x:\program files\Steinberg\Cubase SX\ VstPlugins).
If you start Clean! 4.x/5.x the software will scan the higher VSTPlugIns folder to integrate the listed plugins into Clean! 4.x/5.x. If this VSTPlugIns folder contains an effect which is exclusively designed for Cubase SX or any other host application then you have to move this effect to the lower VSTPlugIns folder.

Question: I have a slide control at the bottom of my preamp: what is that?
Answer: The slide control at the bottom of Clean! Plus 5 is needed for the calibration for the connection capacity of the pick-up of your record player. This calibration is needed to get an optimal sound. The magnetic pick-up needs a defined conclusion.
Most of the Moving-Magnet-Pick-up (MM) does have a termination impedance of 47 kOhm. Please take the value of the needed demand capacity from you manual of your record player.
The 47 kOhm is a fixed value inside of the PreAmp. The demand capacity can be switched: 100pF / 250pF / 430pF (pF = picofarad, an electric unit of measurement for the size of your “memory” of your condenser).
The switch should be adjusted according to the value which you will find in your record player m anual. If you do not find any value please use 250 pF which is optimal for the most MM systems. Your record player, or PreAmp will not get any damage if you are trying to use other settings, but the results might not be to your personal taste.

Question: Is there an offer to buy the preamp as a separate product?
Answer: No, you can not buy the preamp separately.

Answer: No, the software Clean! 1.x/2.x was not designed and developed to the latest operating system Windows XP. Thus, it is not possible to install the software on it.

Question: I’ve connected my record player with the line-in input of my soundcard. But I did not get any input signal in Clean!. Why?
Answer: You have to set up your input channel inside of Windows. Please do the following steps.
“Start \\ Program File \\ Utilities \\ Multimedia \\ Volume Control”
“Options \\ Properties”
Please activate “Record”, check that the entry “Line-In” is selected and press “OK”.
In the dialog that follows, choose the entry “Line-In” to active your new input channel.

Question: I connected my record player with my laptop. I am getting a distorted input signal in Clean!. Why?
Answer: Please note that most of the current laptop machines do not have a line-in input. They only have a mic-input. Clean! needs a line-in input to digitize the analog signal of your record player. Please contact the manufacturer of your laptop to get information if your laptop does have a line-in input channel.
