trouble with cubase 6.5 trial - please help

Postby chrisNova777 » Mon Aug 20, 2012 8:52 am

Please help me.. Im trying to activate my Cubase 6.5 Trial. I need to get this to work asap as im trying to decide between Ableton Live / Logic Pro / And Cubase for my next purchase.

I've just spent a few hours downloading the cubase 6.5 installer and installing the software.. but my elicenser isnt working properly... Its saying over and over :

"Currently there is no elicenser connected to your computer which you can download your license to."

clearly this is a malfunction becasuse im trying to activate the code given to me from steinberg for the 30 day trial. which the elicenser app has no problem recognizing as a 30 day trial upon pasting the code.. but then i see a big ANTi symbol above the elicenser ("SOFT-ELICENSER") which is, as i understand it, the software virtual elicenser that I NEED TO ADD THE ACTIVATION CODE TO , in ORDER TO USE THE CUBASE TRIAL.

anyway long story short ive wasted 6 hours of my life trying to just install the trial. how do i evaluate the software when the trial doesnt work because of this stupid glitch? that seems to be a brick wall in my way to progress..

??????

i really would like to get some answer to this, i have limited time to make up my mind about which software im going to purchase and im losing valuable evaluation time on my 30 day trial aswell.

i have uninstalled + reinstalled the software numerous times.. both the elicenser and the complete cubase 6 suite of programs offered in the trial. Always to be met with the same huge fault in the installation process... which seems to be clearly non functional without a hardware elicenser. from what i read when downloading the software it said nothing of requiring a hardware piece. otehrwise i wouldnt have spent my time trying to attempt this install. If anything i expect steinberg to edit this instructional text regarding the trial in teh email they send out to make it clear that it requires hardware, if indeed this is the case. which would be ridiculous, as they have not communicated that WHATSOEVER in the whole trial downloading process + aquiring of the activation code.. etc

in my mind, immediate action is neccessary on steinbergs part: be it either
a) fix the soft elicenser component to allow activating the license code given or
b) CLEARLY INFORM the public that HARDWARE IS NECCESSSARY TO USE THE TRIAL LICENSE in the dialog both on the website and in the email received after signing up for the trial.

I will do whatever i can to keep repeating and stressing the importance of this, as Its not fair to potential new customers like myself to have to go through hours of wasted time + effort because of lack of communication on steinbergs part.

Please note: To use the Cubase 6.5 trial version you need a USB-eLicenser - supplied for example with previous retail versions of Cubase.

This line is present on the Steinberg Online Shop page that has to be filled out (First Name, Last Name, & E-mail address) in order to get the download of the demo.

this is the original page i was on about 7 hours ago:

http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/cu ... rsion.html
it clearly just shows 2 download links one for pc and one for mac; with very little other text.

nothing about needing hardware for elicenser.... at all.

I see it now, i would suggest that this be stressed and made to be more noticable as people coming to this page are most likely filling in the form as fast as possible. Its very misleading because it talks about in other areas where it is mentioned it also says slash Soft-Elicenser, eluding to the fact that it may be possible to use a software driven virtual dongle licenser. (which is clearly shown in the elicenser app aswell, only it doesnt work as its been disabled by your company apparently)

making this important info more noticable and repeated in more then one place could save someone else the frustration that i've just experienced.

im trying hard not to have it affect my judgement of steinberg......or cubase..... as im trying to make a proper evaluation of the different options i have before me to purchase.. choosing between ableton live / logic pro and steinberg cubase is not an easy decision to make. but clear communication + support from the company goes along way to create a good relationship with its end users.

is there any version of cubase at all that has a normal trial that doesnt require some type of hardware?
as i mentioned, im trying to decide which softare to go with....... any direction or assistance for me to accomplish this would be appreciated considering the time ive already spent with signing up for the support + non functional free trial etc.

If you go into the "Trial Versions" section of your mySteinberg account, you can download the demo for Cubase Elements 6.

Thanks for the direction. I really hope you forward my concerns to someone who can improve the steinberg experience for other new potential customers who may fall into the same predicament.

ok ive just gone ahead and downloaded Cubase Elements 6 and now during its installation its come up with an error. and on status "activate mp3 trial license" a window popped up saying LCC error or something.... im really beside myself with dissappointment in steinberg at this point. the installation is halted and i have no option other then to press cancel and abort the installation.

and alas, pressing cancel doesnt even cancel the installation properly.. i have to open task manager to end the process manually...

this has been a huge dissappointment, it looks like i wont even be able to properly evaluate if cubase meets my needs or not. i was very excited earlier tonight, thinking that id be able to change my working environment from reason to cubase.. i wonder how many steinberg users fall into this same cycle of uninstalling and reinstalling to try to install the programs.. this type of thing was more common in the late 90s.. its 2012 guys, software companies dont really have bugs + problems like this anymore? i thought? my confidence has gone from 100 to 25% in a mere few hours, and i havent even been able to open the interface to the program.......!!

to put this in perspective, i had no problems installing abelton live whatsoever.

I've just uninstalled and trying a second time to install the cubase elements 6 trial and im staring at a dialog box again that says the following:

Application 'LCC2' has caused the following error: ???
Options: -Click <Ok> to abort.

the status on the installer says "Activate mp3 trial license",
theres another small dialog box that says "Cubase LE AI Elements 6 install in progress..."

i have no other option other then to click ok to abort..
at which point the screen is halted and is doing absolutely nothing.
I press cancel, get another dialog box that says "Are you sure you want to cancel steinberg cubase LE AI Elements 6 Installation?" Well I dont want to but what other choice do i have when the thing is halted and not proceeding to install?????????????????????

And it hangs again, and i have to open task manager and end the process manually.... wow.. just wow.
honestly i dont have problems with software on this computer EVER. from any other company.. this is just amazing to me....... im shocked.

500$ cash for cubase 6..... hmm i wish i could buy in confidence but it seems that this company is riddled with problems and lack of support.

at this point, from what ive read on the forums here, i think i will save myself the trouble and just completely skip cubase and look elsewhere for my daw needs! which is quite unfortunate!!!!!!!!!!

TODAY i've gone out and bought the elicenser license control device for $29, and am about to attempt to install the trial another time.

i'm hoping very much for it to be problem free.

fingers crossed.

No.
Certainly that´s why it says "You need a USB licenser to activate the trial" on the download page...

you would have to order it from some type of store.. be it ebay or zzsounds or long-mcquade.com etc
therse many stores that sell this peice of hardware.. The STeinberg website is very uninformative and in my opinion needs alot of thought + overhaul onthe part of the steinberg customer service.. Things that are very important are not made clear enough thru using the site, from what ive seen alot of people run into problems dealing with communication on the internet and otherwise from steinberg...... they dont seem to be too concerned with making sure their new potential customers dont have problems..

Hi,
I downloaded today the Cubase 6.5 Trial version from MySteinberg successfully.
Now I have problem with activation. When I try to activate after inserting the Activation code (that I received by email) then It asks me that there is not USB connected to my computer.

This is my first time using the Cubase product in my iMac and I want to try the Trial version before purchase.
I've spent many hours to figure out this issue without any result. All these headache only for testing the Trial version.
I read other posts in this page (sorry guys for you, I am in the same both.) and I would like somebody confirm if:
Is that mean I need to buy a USB eLicenser for trying the Cubase 6.5?
If I have to pay/buy USB eLicenser, so what would mean the Trial version?
Thank you for any assistance.

It states quite clearly that you need to have a USB elicenser to run the trial version.

split,
Thanks for the reply.
All these regulations are new to me. So far I tested tons of professional Trial version software without paying a penny.

Questions:
1- Do they reimburse me If I buy the USB elicenser for Trial version and then I decide not to buy the Cubase 6.5 full version?
2- Should I buy another USB elicenser if I decide to buy the Cubase 6.5 full version after testing the Trial version?
Thank you in advance for any info.
Regards.

1- I doubt it, but it's worth a shot.
2- No, you can put as many different licenses as you want on a single USB licenser..

Note that if you were to buy Cubase or Cubase artist (not elements) you recieve a USB licenser in the box. Buying one for the trial and then buying the full product leaves you with 2 elicensers. You can of course try to resell the one in the box to someone like you who is trying to run a trial version.
