trouble with cubase 6.5 trial - please help

Thank you guys for the info.
My opinion:
this is not a good marketing from Steinberg because they lose customers and money. I could be one of them to pay $500 to buy Cubase 6.5 after trying.
Anyway, which Cubase Trial version does not need the USB eLicenser?
Thanks.

I did some search and I found out that we can try the Cubase Element 6 without USB eLincenser.
In the meanwhile I downloaded the Cubase Element 6 Trial version, successfully installed and I inserted the Activation code that I received through MySteinberg.
After all it asks me to connect the USB eLincenser to the computer, I am really confused.
According to Steinberg information we do not need to connect the USB eLincenser for Cubase Element Trial version.
Any help would be appreciated.
Please see the screen shots.

I did everything,uninstalling/reinstalling Cubase Element 6 with the same result.
I get the same message:
Alternatively, re-install your product to create a Soft-eLicenser.

Please see the attachment MyStienberg.png, I enter this Activation Code but it's not working.

Bruce,

After following all those posts and replies and updates, you and chrisnova had installed Cubase 6.5 Trial which would have installed the elicenser driver (which tries to detect the USB port for Steinberg key), then when you installed Elements trial. IMO, that LLC driver is still looking for USB key. Try to uninstall completely, Elements 6, cubase 6.5, soft-licenser, LLC, syncsoft, etc... Try to delete the registry keys. I don't know about Mac but in windows you can apply run command with 'regedit' and select find options and type each related names which can search any keys or data related to what you typed( for example, elicenser).

Try this and restart your computer and try to freshly instal your Elements 6 trial.

Let me know if it helped.

Offering a Trial but trying to buck with the USB key is not a good strategy.
After a few yeas Using Ableton Live, finally decided to give a try to Cubase, and this morning gathered a few producers in my office to try it out, only to be turned off by this Trial license issue. After going back and forth with attempts and reading the not so clear info provided for the trial, we finally gave up and decided to keep up with Ableton Live and buy the new version 9 that just came out.
Cubase seems to be a good product, but it lacks on a company with good "politics" and support behind it.
Good bye Stainberg, you just lost 3 potential clients...
Good bye Cubase... maybe I'll back in a couple years!

I too wanted to try the Cubase 6 before I buy and I didn't had any USB key.

BUT I READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY.

It was mentioned that to install Cubase 6.5 trial version what are the requirements, even USB eLicenser was included. Whereas for Cubase Elements 6 trial version, it was clearly mentioned its soft eLicenser and no need for USB key dongle.

I hence downloaded the Elements trial and everything was perfect.

What I think about other DAWs are, their trial version are limited in functionality as well, like a separate program which doesn't require dongles. Same like Cubase Elements.

I would suggest you try to download the Cubase Elements trial version and you won't be deceived.

All the best
