off to a great start :(

off to a great start :(

Postby 1poorplayer » Sat Dec 22, 2012 8:59 pm

So I'm installing my Cubase7 software , everything seems to be going fine , following directions , software loading , then a little screen pops up prompting me to "Please insert the disc: HALion Sonic SE................

So I do. The little popup screen with these directions remain on my screen , and my computer asks if I want to download images to windows media player picture folder ? Which I'm thinking is ....wrong. So I do it anyways , eject the disc , try again , little insert disc screen won't go off. Frustrated I try to close out the install screen. It won't let me. Meanwhile the main Cubase loading screen is still on ( behind the the install disc screen ) that shows all the installed software on a list with checkmarks , and the install colored bar flashing away , waiting for the HALion Sonic SE info to complete ? !!!

No phone support until next year , a frozen up situation. I was apprehensive about getting into this complex DAW , heck I can't even get it to install. The buttons on my laptop have taken some abuse over the last 30 minutes.

... I suppose I got the only known faulty disc , and it's not being recognized , and it won't allow the completion of the software ?

I had that happen too, on a windows 7 install. I cancelled out of it, and after a bit of thrashing around, got it working....(still dunno about the Halion, tho)

It won't work right on my MAC either. It gets locked in a loop after I insert the halion disk. Again, I was able to kill the task, and it installed.

Hey ! thank God for forums. I shut my computer down. restarted it , installed the halion disc. It took a long time. I don't know about accessing the Halion software from the cubase screen , or if it will work. I tried opening some of the premade mixes ( to play around a little bit and learn my way around ) and only a couple measures of drum tracks show up. ??? No other instruments or vocals. Cubase quit on me a few times as well. :?

.... Now I remember why i hate computers and software. Geesh , I haven't even gotten started.

Copy the cubase project in their entirety from the DVD to your hard drive then use them from the HD

How exactly ? As you may soon learn on the forum ( and I appologize ) , I am not the greatest with computers - period.
If software doesn't work properly , or as it's intended , I'm no good at finding a "workaround" to get results.

So, pretend you are explaining to your grandmother ( if she just bought Cubase and a windows 7 PC ) , how exactly to copy the project from the DVD to my HD ? I haven't got a grip on file management either.

Grandma I love you more than life itself but
I think you should start with a less complex application
and as you go forward you will understand more
and will soon be able to work and more importantly
create 'music art' with a complex, pro programme like Cubase 7.

Steinberg's Sequel might be a good start.

Remember Grandma, I love you!
and not just because I want to be in your will

Hmm...

look in the DVD with the "pre-made" projects on it, when you find them, drag the top folder over to your hard drive, this should copy all the project folders over to your hard drive. You should read the getting started PDF

Basically the DVD is not fast enough to stream all the audio etc, to be able to play a project from.

But if your understanding of computers is really that rudimentary, you should really try to get up to speed with basic computer 101 first. I would say to try searching on the web? or try a book like http://www.dummies.com/how-to/computers-software/operating-systems/Windows-7.html to get up to speed quickly. You'll need it :P

Thanks you young whipper snappers.

OK. Well , with the project files , ( and this is what confuses me ) I thought they would already be on my HD after I did the install. Isn't that the way it's "supposed" to work ?

So ; correct me if I'm wrong , your saying reinsert the DVDs and search for the project files amongst the data , and drag the files to my HD ?

thanks

... just fooling around. Trying to learn this on my own from scatch makes me feel like a little old lady. I'm sure if I had 30 minutes with someone who's good with this , I'd have most of it down. I'll keep pecking though. Been to busy with "life" to do much yet. Thanks. 41 ;)
