Cubase 6 or Cubase 7

Cubase 6 or Cubase 7

Postby sten2020 » Sun Dec 23, 2012 4:50 am

Hi. I am planning to purchase full version of Cubase. I am only getting Cubase 6 from my dealer, if I buy Cubase 6 now, Will I be able to avail the grace period and get the Version 7 for free? and How long this Grace Period thing will be available? What if I have to re-install it way into future.

On amazon, both versions are available but Cubase 6 is cheaper than Cubase 7. If you get Version 7 with Cubase 6 anyway, why play extra for Cubase 7 at the first place? Thanks.

That's exactly why you're not eligible for a grace period if you purchase the previous version once version 7 is unveiled.

Bane, sten2020, actually they do allow this. I imagine part of the reason for this is to allow resellers to sell out their stock of the older software.

Steinberg Website wrote:Grace Period Update to Cubase 7 and Cubase Artist 7

All customers who have activated Cubase 6/6.5 or Cubase Artist 6/6.5 (includes full retail version, educational version, updates and upgrades) on October 25, 2012, or later, are eligible to obtain a free Grace Period update to Cubase 7 or Cubase Artist 7.

Start the eLicenser Control Center application, found under Start/Programs/ eLicenser on a Windows PC or in the Applications folder of Mac OS X.

Enter your activation code for Cubase (Artist) 6/6.5. Your Cubase (Artist) 7 license will automatically be saved on your USB-eLicenser and the Steinberg Grace Period site will be opened.

Enter your USB-eLicenser number and click "Check for Grace Period eligibility". Once your version eligibility is confirmed, a download link will be displayed.

Download the Cubase (Artist) 7 version and start installing.

Edit: okay I see now. That doesn't make sense to me though to give any user who buys C6 a free upgrade to C7, as the value of Cubase 6 will likely soon depreciate.

Right, This way the value of C6 will not depreciate, and this makes stores like Guitar Center happy if they have boxes of C6 in their warehouse.

And it makes users like sten2020 happy because they can get cheaper deals.
