Cubase Artist 7 and MIDI Keyboard

Cubase Artist 7 and MIDI Keyboard

Postby StormEffect » Sun Dec 30, 2012 8:08 pm

Hello!

I'm interested in buying Cubase 7, but I'm still quite the beginner and think Cubase Artist or Elements would be a better fit. I have a nice MIDI keyboard that came with a trial version of Ableton Live! that is starting to feel limited. I'm more interested in music composition, and it looks like Cubase would be a better fit.

My main dillema: Cubase Elements only comes in version 6, and I'd like to use the newest version (I'm on a new system with Windows 8 x64). So I'm looking at Cubase Artist 7, but according to the comparison PDF, Cubase Artist 7 DOES NOT support MIDI Devices.

So just to confirm, do I need to buy the full version of Cubase in order to hook up my MIDI keyboard?

Thanks!

The name is a bit confusing, but you can use your midi device just fine :)
Check the manual if you are interested in what 'midi devices' in Cubase means. You won't need it though!
Software: Steinberg Cubase Artist 6.5.2 64-bit.
Hardware: HP elitebook 8530b with W7 Home 64-bit
Terratec Producer PHASE X24fw - Steinberg Midex 8 - Steinberg CC121.
Analog: Mackie 802VLZ3 - Alesis M1 - Behringer Powerplay Pro-XL - Studio Projects C3
Instruments: Yamaha DTX750k - Yamaha MO-6 - Waldorf Blofeld.
3rd party plugins: Native Instruments Prism - BFD ECO - Arturia MinimoogV - Rob Papen Distort - Rob Papen Delay - Blue Cat Audio Free pack - Stillwell Major Tom - JSAudio CompShaper - Some more free stuff that gets little use.

My humble contributions to what could be considered music.
