where can I buy Cubase 6.5? upgrading from SX3

where can I buy Cubase 6.5? upgrading from SX3

Postby navboy » Fri Mar 01, 2013 4:35 pm

Building new DAW, ready to upgrade from Cubase SX3 to latest and am used the nice stable environment of fully upgraded SX3 where I can really get work done without worry of bugs and oddball behavior.

Only Cubase 7 seems to be discussed on the Steinberg page - where can I get 6.5, which I understand to be the last solid version? As a longtime user of Cubase, I feel I should have the "right" to upgrade to an equally stable environment when it's time to get current, regardless of the state of the latest release - if it's a buggy first attempt, then why not offer the last stable version of a long period of overlap? Other companies do it.

Anyway, if anyone knows where I can go to buy a copy of 6.5 please let me know, either in here or in private messaging, Thanks. I see where some vendors seem to be selling 6.5 - as a licenced SX3 user, does that mean I'll be okay if I buy the "uprade" version of 6.5 from one of these vendors?

Aloha n,

You bring up an interesting point
so I went to the MySteinberg site and I could
not find a copy of Cubase 6/6.5 for order
anywhere on the site.

The closest product available was Cubase Elements 6 and even then
the upgrade path is from either Cubase AI 6 or Cubase LE 6.

No mention of upgrading from SX3 at all.

Looks like you may have to go the '3rd party route'
to get a copy of Cubase 6/6.5

Nod ... I'm wondering if it matters in terms of licensing and support and all that. One pain in the ass going that route is they are asking the same price for 6.5 that Steinberg is asking for 7 (at least the upgrade price for SX3 users which is basically $100 off of retail for 7. So that would imply Steinberg should offer 6.5 for something less than the Cubase 7 rate.

Of course you could not - we are at Cubase 7 and as always when a new version is out, the old one gets discontinued.
First at the Steinberg shop, then when stocks are out from the retailers - always been that way. Obviously they want to sell their new product.

An "upgrade" from SX3 to Elements 6 would be a huge "downgrade" featurewise
Cubase 5.1.1 (32bit) | Win 7 Pro x64 SP1 | RME Fireface UFX | RME Fireface 800 | Cubase Essential 5 | Win 7 Home Premium x64

I just took off my thinkingcap, it got filled up with too much crap...

Finally getting back to this - have my new DAW built and I see there has been an update to Cubase 7 since I was in here last back in March. Any opinions on if the huge negative reaction to Cubase 7 has been mitigated by enough fixes and design improvements in the update(s)?

When I first looked at it, it just seemed ridiculous to have to jump from SX3 to Cubase 7x at considerable cost only to actually LOSE important workflow elements I'm used and have something run incredibly sluggishly compared to what I've got with a much older version on an old computer. I did find copies of 6.5 at third locations but that was a few months ago - no idea if it's still available. I'm hoping maybe Steinberg actually listened to their user base and reincorporated missing elements and fixed the majority of the bugs Cubase7 seemed to be laden with ....

Any ideas?
