I7 2600k vs I7 3770k (on board graphics)

I'm thinking of building a new system and I'm wondering how much of a drain it would be to use onboard graphics with a basic 2 monitor setup with Cubase (I7 2600k vs I7 3770k )?
Comp1: Windows 7 64bit, Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R, Intel I7 970, 12 gig Patriot DDR3 ram, RME Digiface, Geoforce 66000 PCIe, , Cubase 6.5
Comp 2:Windows 7 64bit, Asus P5W DH Deluxe, Q6600, 8 gig Corsair XMS ram, , MR816 X(x2) VE Pro

I don't know that answer.. but curious..why? I thought a while back I read that a dedicated add-on video card, PCIe or whatever 'takes' the load off. So why ask your machine to take on 'more', especially for critical music production? I could see the point for say, a UAD quad ..damn expensive & cost prohibitive for your home ethusiest, but a video card is not cost prohibitive.

Isn't this a little like asking if you can get away with ONE hard drive for your OS
,Programs, samples, AND porn?

So there, you got nothing from me really :P

I'd be curious to hear the actual differences in performance though. I'm more in the school of thought of relieving my main music computer of as much as I can, regardless of it's capabilities.

Just trying to simplify. I've got a feeling the onboard graphics doesn't use a lot of power...

Not sure what the power consumption is on a graphics card, but isn't that what a well planned PSU is for? Obviously on an board graphics is meant to be used, but I have concerns on how that would have an affect on a DAW purpose machine.

Until someone comes along with an answer, I guess you could experiment and see.

onboard is more than good enough FYI 2600 vs 3770 same performance
ther is no "drain" it could cause you to use some of your ram but in most cases it will not
in todays world with 64bit and 8 gig ram minimum its not even a concern

That's kind of what I thought, thanks again for your insight JCschild!
