Re: Project Sample Rate Reduction Test

I like your videos and your explanations, Bredo. :)

And they totally agree with what I say. Sample rates (given good filters, which I EXPECT from my RME Hammerfall DSP!) beyond a certain point (48 kHz?) don't matter anymore, because there is no audible information lost by bandlimiting the signal.

Also, this perfectly explains, why oversampling is necessary in certain audio processes: to avoid foldback during the calculation process. But after the calculations are done, the signal can be downsampled again.

I think that we can close the case, seriously. 8-)

Re: So 7.5 is here (almost)

My initial feeling is that there are some very nice changes (or redos of things that didn't quite come out right in 7.0). HOWEVER, I see no info on what I am interested in... easier navigation... key commands... improvements to MIDI.

IOW: there are a lot of very sexy features... but I see less and less focus on polishing the CORE product in favour of MORE SYNTHS! MORE FX! MORE BIG STUFF! And frankly, I don't need any more 'big' things. I just have a list of -little- things I've been waiting on for perhaps 10 years.

And that makes me feel like all they are interested in are NEW SALES! I would much rather they charge people like me a proper fee to get the thing -polished- once and for all and stop adding more BIG STUFF!

Re: So 7.5 is here (almost)

I'm actually surprised that Steinberg did as much as they did in the workflow enhancements. We could have nothing but some new synths but we also have a new take on instrument tracks, track versions, track visibility and transient tools that I honestly didn't expect until 8.0.

I guess it will come down to one's definition of 'workflow enhancements'. They may be marvelous, but I have 3 observations:

1. With 7.0, it -looked- like SB was heading in an 'app' direction... trying very much to -simplify- the UI. These features will surely make the UI more complicated. That seems like a step backward between the UI designer's intent and the rest of the team that does 'features'.

2. All these new features seem far more like traditional SB approach---add more stuff rather than -perfecting- what is there. IOW: I'm not sure 'versioning' =and= Lanes =and= 'Rerecord' =and= the 6.5 comping stuff couldn't be streamlined into a MUCH more simple method that was just as 'flexible' but didn't require as much 'stuff'. Eg. If the mixer simply had fader undo/redo history? I probably wouldn't need -half- of all that stuff.

3. My concern is that MixConsole is FAR from perfect. In fact, I work -slower- with it than with the 6.0 mixer. Just a fact. I was hoping that all the keyboard navigation stuff would be sorted out before it was imposed on the rest of Cubase UI. That worries me as a guy who twiddles in the Editors all day.

IOW: There were LOTS 'better' music players, with LOTS more features before the iPod came out. It turns out that a simple, intuitive design is far more valuable to most people than winning the feature war.

Or, like most pundits, I could be completely wrong. :D The ID thing and the improvements to Score are most welcome for me.

Re: Nuendo 6.5?

Hello,

yes, we will release Nuendo 6.0.7 beginning of February.
Among other fixes it will include a major update for the AAF filter.

Thanks,
Timo

Only about a year after release do we get an update for the AAF filter. You guys are fast! But that's to be expected from a post -application I guess.

In the meantime I'll use this as an alternative.

Re: Nuendo 6.5?

Hello,

Nuendo 6.5 is going to be released in beginning of Q2 2014. Beside all features already revealed in Cubase 7.5 it will get even more post-pro / surround mixing relevant functions, such as a professional Bass Management. In terms of development time, it simply takes longer to bring all the additional features into the upcoming Nuendo 6.5.

We may also be able to correct some more issues in terms of GUI, but in general it will be the status of Cubase 7.5.
Key Command/mixer issue will (most likely) be fixed.

Thanks,
Timo

Re: 7.5 at Last!

This is a joke. I can't even get to the product page. Nice job on the release, as usual. All the hype for this nonsense. SB couldn't close an umbrella with a full set of instructions. How many times does there have to be server issues on a release before they correct the situation? Laughing-stock are the only words I have.

Thank you for the new font in the "cycle"

Ive always found it hard when zooming in with the cycle on to see the Bar/time line divisions but I must say the bold black font is much much better , you can actually see where your tracking now  :D

Not a biggy but thank you ;)

Yes, thank you Steinberg!

It's a minor improvement, but an improvement indeed. There are many more of those hiding under the preference menu and the Track Settings window as well as the Mix Console. I really like these graphic changes that have made Cubase look more pro. Very much appreciated ;)

Re: C7.5 - Combining Lanes and Track Versions when comping!

Create Lanes from Versions!

1 - use versions as takes (like protools)( vrs 1 = take 1; vrs 2 = take 2)
2 - if you want to comp, use: Project/TrackVersions/Create Lanes From Versions.
3 -The App will create a new version with all takes, and you can comp like before.

The advantage, as I see, is that you will keep the takes in a more organized way.
Just another approach.

Re: Now Steinberg - Five things...

Only five things..?

Glad to see some one else is still focused after the mass outpouring of love and thankyou's at 7.5 welcome party!

7.5 is a great update but hopefully all the details and graphics hangovers from 7.06 won't be over shadowed by all the gloss of new features that 7.5 brings with it.

That little pop up box that follows the cursor around the spreadsheet is horrible indeed! Why not just one discreet frame around the entire strip as on the control room when Mixer or Setup is selected on the bottom? Why does whole sections of the monitors go such a horrible opaque grey when channel groups are created?

And yes, indeed, the DB values should remain visible at all times, and does anybody really need a fader that fills up an entire screen? The horrible little pop up buttons on the send/insert slots needs to give way to intelligent click mapping as much as the mouse over send values needs to be addressed.

The spreadsheet look and feel send/insert page is as horrible and ugly now as it was when first introduced, far from elegant or befitting of such a high class DAW, especially to the untold numbers of users who have no wish to use the stock eq's or strips for which it is a "home" page.

It's surprising that the are VST's still not in floating frames over the MC, they should only disappear when a user wants them to!

Hopefully all these really annoying things are "still in the frame" so to speak.

As you mention, it's all in the little details, it's by paying such attention and fine tuning to all the little details that great music is made, it goes without saying that the same attention and fine tuning should be given to the software that's used to create it with.

Now, did I hear some one say just five things...?

Re: Aero causes cursor flickering?

THIS IS NOT A VIDEO CARD ISSUE! Please PLEASE guys don't go out and replace your video cards and spend more money trying to fix this problem.

As described above, I have a higher end NVIDIA card. On this system, I can play current games at 100% resolution / quality (only then does my video card fan actually start to spin up) yet Cubase 7's cursor flickers. Cubase 6.x doesn't suffer this problem nor do any other applications here or any previous Cubase version I have used. Flickering of one graphical component is usually caused by a lack of double buffering in the implementation. A slow video card would more likely lead to lagging and sluggish UI, NOT flickering.

This is 100% an application issue and is something that Steinberg need to address ASAP.

Re: Thank you for the new font in the "cycle"

PS:- please do something about that playhead/cursor look/behaviour though, soon and pretty please..? - it is better for me at 16bit colour (screen settings), but there is still very obvious scanline 'shearing' effect of that Cursor as it plays across the screen; not nice. You need to be zoomed in a bit to see this.
This is absolutely a nigthmare when trying to do edit work. Zoom in to 2-3 measures (or closer) for presice editing, and the cursor flickers like crazy.
I have never seen like it, in any DAW - I have PT10, Studio One 2.5, C6.5, N5.5 installed on the same computers.

Please fix ASAP, and make it like in C6.5 (get rid of the white outlines). PLEASE!

The new font in cycle is great, so you can if you want ;-)

the cursor flicker is a pain in the arse but as you have asked in your threads , could you keep this thread on topic instead of turning it into another moaning thread .

Re: Tips Tricks And Workflow Goodness.

"floating" inspector bar, PT style ;)

make it allways on top and will automaticaly scroll during selecting track

I see you have used the third Mix Console.
Can you save this as a mixer configuration? Or a workspace? (I will try my self when at my DAW).

Nice tip.

Re: If you like the 7.5 update...+1 this and reply

Does mixer 1 work as expected or not?
That would be a big NO ...
it still doesn't save properly with workspaces (zoom + config)
it still has to have focus to use many mixconsole keycommands
it still loses focus if you use functions of the mixconsole itself
Mute/Mono/Solo don't activate/deactivate all the time
QLink doesn't work properly when soloing/muting... (probably associated somehow with the direct mute/solo bug)
it still doesn't keep z-Order correct for plugins
it still corrupts randomly requiring a "reset" that requires you to reset everything
Mixer configurations corrupt randomly on recall
Mixer presets do really odd things to the mixconsole when loading (zoom, visibility)
and more ...

in other words ... NO

It's a great release other than the 30 or 40 crappy interface bugs that have existed since the 7.0 release a year ago.

Re: THANK YOU STEINBERG!! Cubase 7 and Cubase 7.5 are amazin

Sorry, Freddie, I just think that with you as with several other inconditional Steiny lovers, there are no longer any dialog possible :

- I'm talking about missing features in RCE, trackpresets, etc. : you talk about 'Closing on exit' which was never one of my point...
- I'm talking about UI regressions and white masked cursor : you talk about 'Aero'...
- I'm talking about Genric Remote features and layout quirks : you talk about 'XP32' tweaks...
- I'm talking about features removed : you talk about... nothing. It's not even considered.

Few things, though :
- Strangely, with Cubase 5.1 and 6.5, I have an optimal system which is working surprisingly well, considering that I have systematically three VSTBridged plug-ins in almost all my projects. And, most of all, both have a clean and working UI with several features that are missing in C7, this with much less resources usage and a great responsiveness. Isn't it strange, and how do you explain that ?

- A last one : I sent three months ago at Fabio Bartolini (guess you know who he is...) a complete .nfo file of my system (in the same way, I guess that a Windows 'specialist' like you knows what this also is...). Guess what ? He admitted in return by PM, after being, as you, suspicious about my DAW, that my system had nothing that could be really problematic. This was initially about an exchange concerning the dreaded 7.0.5 bug which was crashing Cubase when hitting 'F3' to close the MixConsole. Remember this one ?

I'll stop here. End of this useless exchange...
