Re: Tips Tricks And Workflow Goodness.

This is a really old one.

1. A quick way to hear an edit without actually committing to the edit.

If you just want to cut a section of a song, but want to hear the result first.
Simply engage cycle, then set your left locator to the end of the section to be cut.
Then set your right locator to the beginning of the section to be cut.
Yea, backwards.
Now playback from a point before the right locator.
The song will skip over the section enclosed in the markers.

2. Use the FXchain Presets to load whole channels at once.
(Not really a hidden/secret feature at all) I know it sounds obvious
but I haven't had to go looking for a plugin in quite some time.
I have created basic start up channels for everything...
For example: Vocal Channel - (De-esser, LA-2A, EQ)
Even FX Channels...I have 4th,8th,16th note echos in a flash.
The way over used but highly popular phone voice filter effect.
One click loads the UAD Moog Filter, LA-2A, Cambridge EQ and Precision Limiter.

Take the time to set these up and it will save you more time then you could possibly imagine.
You can designate a key command to open the fxchain preset browser as well.

Re: Drums for a Cubase Newbie

Midi loops are your friend in this case.
Use Media Bay to search for midiloops in the VST Sound folder.

Tons of drum beats to choose from.

Re: Mini The Moog

Congrats on the Mini! I've owned an original Model D since 1989.
Got it for a hundred bucks in Youngstown Ohio.
Mostly been sitting in a studio but I did gig with it on and off.
The tuning was always an issue at live events.
(The temp and humidity in clubs can be bad)

I use to use the headphone output to tune it and change
sounds parameters between playing.
You can shut off the main output and still use the
phones output. That little feature was brilliant thinking.
Saved my ass a couple of times right before a lead part
came up all out of tune.

I paid a $100.00 used in 1989, had it serviced once in Chicago at
Midwest Music Menders at a cost of $350.00-$400.00
sometime around 1992. Still going strong today.

The cosmetics are and have always been totally ruined.
The guy I bought it from had painted all the wood black.
Added a piece of wood to the bottom where he drilled a
giant hole to attach a stand. The keys are all crooked and
misaligned. But I like it that way. It looks like the keyboard
Mad Max would have had in "The Road Warrior" if he were a
musician and not a high speed death dealer of the future world.

It would be nice to get it looking like brand new I guess.
I would only do that if I were going to sell it and
that just isn't going to happen.

Congratulations again, you have a new analogue friend for life.

Re: Tempo problem with audio loops

In media bay, you need to set the tempo of the new files.
Browse to the folder containing your new files, select a file and enter the BPM in the tempo field.

Re: Key Command for track volume??

(Alt + up/down arrows)
Though it doesn't work unless you have the focus set to the little
db read out at the bottom of the fader. (Directly under the fader)

So yes, it does have a key command but you have to click first to set the focus.
Or try and tab your way around to it.
Kind of defeats the purpose of having a short cut in the first place.

If the channel is selected it should just work.

Re: Tips Tricks And Workflow Goodness.

Here's a little hidden one :
PC , while in dual panner mode hold down the Alt/gr button and move the mouse up and down on the panner and this allows you to swap your left and right panners so left becomes right and ..........

just in case no ones noticed this ;)

Thanks a ton for this one...I do this often and the pan controls are a pain to deal with.

Re: Tips Tricks And Workflow Goodness.

well not workflow but a useful KC (for me at least :) )
open all insert GUI on channel... shift+alt+left click on E button of a channel. to close all of them shift+left click on E again

Wow, how long has this one been hidden from the general public?
Haven't been able to do this since Nu2 and I've missed it badly.
Has this been there all along?
Let's hear it for Steinberg's documentation!

Thank you so much for this one!
I have brought this up before but no one ever had an answer.
I thought they did away with it.

Re: What is going on with Cubase 7?

And may I add Nuendo 6 to that. I think all the things you mention
have been documented...for quite some time now. Cubase 7 and
Nuendo 6 are done deals. (No more development for either)
If you want fixes you will have to upgrade to 7.5.
Oh yea, many of the documented issues are still present in 7.5 along with
some new ones, so maybe wait for version 8.
I'm trialing Cubase 7.5 and just found the "Mute" bug for channel 1.
How in the world...never mind.

If you need a new drum machine, or track versions, or another tape saturation plugin
they have you covered.

For me the new drum machine is almost worth it. Track versions are a convenience
but I prefer to manage alternate takes spread out on tracks.
Never hit a limit with too many tracks...And everything is visible all the time.
Magneto II doesn't have the mojo that the very 1st ever version of Magneto had.
That is obviously just my opinion. I use the UAD Studer, Ampex or Fatso
for those duties anyway.

Steinberg, please focus on your origins. You know Cubase and Nuendo.
Take the time to address the fundamental issues please.

Flickering Cursors, Mixer Key Commands, Mouse wheel malfunctions, etc...
You know what they are.

Re: High latency since 7.5.1

I noticed that no matter what I set the CI2 buffer size too, and what the numbers in cubase say, the latency I am hearing is the same. Another thing I noticed is this new driver called 'high definition audio device'. I tried to delete it but it re-installs itself.

Sounds like the internal sound card on the motherboard is enabled...
Disable it in the bios for starters.

Do you have inserts on your master stereo out?

Re: Nuendo 6.5?

I seriously think we, as Nuendo Users, don't have the numbers to affect a change here.

Sad...

You either go along, (grape is my favorite flavor) and develop your own work arounds,
or move on to something else. Those appear to be the only options Steinberg is willing to offer.

You were posting as I was editing.

It is a tab in the inspector. Once you open that it should be obvious.
I've only used this function a few times and not very recently.

Hope this helps.

Re: 7.5.20 Impressions...

I have both Reaper and Cubase 7.5.20,
Cubase is work of art. Reaper is functional but requires a lot of custom UI config to look decent.

All I had to do with Reaper was download the White Tie Imperial Theme.

http://www.houseofwhitetie.com/reaper/imperial/wt_imperial.html

Check it out if you haven't already, (It has been available for quite some time now)
It looks absolutely amazing! Professional, Functional, Solid.
Worth a look if you haven't seen it. The swiping of controls to enable
track arm, mute, solo etc. on multiple tracks is also very fast and works perfectly.

Re: 7.5.20 Impressions...

I wish Steinberg could hire the "White Tie" guy.
(SAW, Cubase VST, Nuendo 1-6, Protools, Samplitude)
None of them look as refined as this theme.

It isn't only the mixer as someone stated.
Maybe you didn't realize what you were looking at.
Small buttons? Not really...Much better then hovering, waiting and missing the mark
because there are too many controls stuffed into too small an area.

Yesterday I was trying to remove three plugins in Nuendo6.0.7.
I was using the "No Effect" method. Clicking on the right side of the slot trying to get the
scroll window to select no effect. It took me 4 tries because the next slot over kept
trying to open its drop down. The controls are too close and too fiddly to be used quickly.
Yea, I know you can click and press delete. (my usual method)
But, I was temporarily working one handed.

In the past, I've worked on 80 channel Neves, SSLs and even API consoles.
I could care less about it looking like the hardware.
But when you stare at a piece of software for 8-10-14 hours a day...
Anyway, clear and functional is what I need.

I realize that this Reaper theme was done by someone who donated their own time and
it was a labor of love. Maybe Steinberg needs to find someone in love with Cubase and Nuendo.

Where is the passion?

I don't mean to bash Cubendo here. It is still my fav and I use it everyday.
(with growing frustration) I think seeing this should wake them up a bit.
The competition is real.

Re: 7.5.20 Impressions...

...wish i got a cent for every 'load preset' dialog that loaded when i wanted to bring up a plugin's gui instead.
Me too !!
No clear visible area/switch to open the GUI.
And worse :
No indication, that the GUI is open ( which is an issue, if You work on numerous VCC plugs, etc )!
:|

Jan

Yea, no indication of open plugins is so backwards. I think this is the first time
it has been brought up though. Also, if you don't have the mixer racks open/visible,
then there is no indication that a plugin is even loaded on the channel.
These two issues are so important to a smooth workflow...Come on Steinberg.
Maybe another new rack add on.
Something small like the panner, just a little light that lights up when a plugin is loaded.
It could change color to show open instances as well.

Re: Iro: Track Color Pack for Cubase

@Grim: I know, I saw that after your advice.

But, since I changed to this new color scheme, I no longer have those options there, only the new colors are there and "default color", which does nothing...

That´s why.

In the meantime I´ll refert back to the default Steinberg color scheme, unless you have another good tip for me (I´m serious here).

Kind regards,

Charles

You can add more colors to this new color scheme. At least I was able to.
I like to use the color white for tracks that are only feeding side chains.
Scroll all the way down to the bottom and use "select colors"
Everything you need is in there. (Seriously)

Re: Key Editor - note selection and editing

Press Control+Shift then hover over a note in a chord, a speaker icon should pop up and then you can
click and drag up and down to change velocity. You don't even have to select the note first, just hover over it.

I think I had to change the default modifiers to get this behavior.
Its under preferences/modifiers/select tool.

Re: "select from cursor to end" doesn't always work - bug?

Confirmed...This happens here as well.
I've just been working around it for awhile.
I have 5 key commands set up to select 5 different controller lane presets.
Preset 5 has no controllers visible. I use this when I need to use the command in question.

Nice update Steinberg!

Just wanted to say that this update/new version is working great here.
I recently reformatted my C Drive and re-installed Windows 7.
So I installed Nuendo 6.5 on a clean system.
I decided to be brave and only installed 6.5 without installing 5 or 5.5 or 6.07.

Launching and especially quitting Nuendo is much faster.
Although it wasn't slow to begin with for me.
No problems opening older projects.
No problems yet at all...

Good Work!

Re: HELP! (Urgent) "Corrupted Project File"

Have you tried changing the file extension from bak to npr?
Make a copy of the file first and put it somewhere safe just in case.

I don't use Auto save at all for this very reason.
Plus the interruptions of work every time auto save kicks in.
Would drive me insane.

I save often and use a naming scheme.
Second nature now.

Re: Sustain Mode Envelopes

Think I figured it out.
On the Sample page, set the loop mode to "Until Release."
Then on the Amp page, use the "Sustain" setting.
Now the Amp envelope settings should control the volume as you would expect.
Seems to work here.
