Re: Tips Tricks And Workflow Goodness.

Hmm... Someone just asked me for a Mac version of a script I worked on in this thread

So, I figured this was a good bump place for that thread.

This is a Windows script that will lay out your used keycommands in a useful way and output them in an html page.

Re: Tips Tricks And Workflow Goodness.

M/S-recording + edits:

If recording i.e. a vocalist with M/S technique (to get that little air around) which I often do, record it to a stereo track (M = left/S = right) instead of two individual tracks. Mix6To2 or Voxengo MSED get you decoded in a second.

That way you can apply i.e. VariAudio + Warp to both channels while avoiding phase issues.

Works exactly the same if you track a DI guitar + an amp, up to 6 channels, see Rhino's tip on multitrack wave editing somewhere above in this thread.

Re: Vocalign Made Easy in Nuendo

I gotta be honest and say that -- while I would LOVE an internal replacement for the very clunky Vocalign -- I do not want any more new things like this from Steinberg at the moment. I personally want them to put ALL their efforts into the actual program/bugs/usability of C7/N6 at the moment. :D

Re: Cubase 7.5 / 8 - 'Unlimited' Inserts

The rule "less is better" when mixing with plugins means nothing when you are in the production stage...especially if you make electronic music, long and complex chains of inserts are very common...and yes, all in the same track of course (no routing to another group track, this is conceptually no-sense).

The 3rd part vst racks are a workaround, but i think it is way better that cubase will have his native "extended" inserts rack.....Take a look to FL Studio Patcher (native vst) where you have a modular view and also a standard view where you can scroll up and down plugins GUIs like in a web page....very cool and useful IMO. Of course this is not only for inserts but also for true layering of vst instruments.
This is a small video introducing Patcher:

Key Editor > Mocked-up Enhancements for Film Scoring (pic)

(edit. "Hey Cubase devs. Call me. Let's chat. Your software is a little wonky in places.")

Hope you can find some of these enhancements useful...

These are only a few things I'd like to see implemented specifically for film scoring in the Key Editor. (mockup pic attached)
(Full Size - click attachment for full size)

Marked Up: (key)
(Full Size - click attachment for full size)

1. Layout Selector. Ability to easily switch with a drop-down between Key Editor, track editor, mixer, etc. This would replace workspaces as needed.

2. Scrub Tool. This is one the things I missed the most about Cubase coming from Sonar. Many times I would have 4-5 instruments in harmony and I would want to mouse over the section i would want to preview and this would allow me to hear all my instruments at once in one mouse click. Then I as I move the mouse across the timeline, I can quickly hear each desired chord. The options would be have it play solo instruments or all notes in the Key editor.

3. Video Button. Simple, you click it, the video pops up. You click it again and it goes away. Options would be to select screen size, video options, etc.

4. Customize menu. Basically add stuff such as the play/pause/rewind buttons.
5. Window Layout Label. This will label the inspector plus #6 Group Tree.

6. Group Tree + Group Branch. (the leaves would be the settings). This is one of the biggest things I would like to see Cubase. The frustrations of switching from key editor back to track editor, selecting instruments, and then double clicking to open up a new window.. write a bit. Close the window or switch back to track editor to select other instruments to populate my Key Editor is a pain. . == You create groups based off the new built in visibility inspector. Then you select which midi track you would like to include in that group. This becomes your folder branch. (which directly works with #13.) You can group sets for all orchestra, Brass Only, Strings Only, Drums Only, Guitar Only, or Guitar+Bass+Lead). Within this group branch, you can have the option showing or hiding the midi tracks based off the visibility function and to hide either the Tree or Branch. Please Steinberg gods, listen to me on this one!!!

7. Scene View. This I have yet to see in any DAW. The concept is this. You have a full locked feature film. You've customized ALL the markers, hit all your hard hit points, soft points and every hit is timed perfectly. THEN, the producers at the studio decide to add another scene plus extend an expression that grabs the heart strings of viewer. This change to the edit means everything shifts and moves. The scene view gives you the ability to break down your films and LOCK your scenes in place. Once the new film is in, all you have do it move it as if it were a group track and it would move every automation, every fade and every note. The left over gaps can be broken down to new measures, shifted tempo, or act as a break in score. Careful planning on your project or sloppy for that matter would make this feature amazing for anyone wishing to change a locked picture.

8. Markers. Yes, have the markers visible in key editor. Why they are not currently in there baffles me.

9. Ghosted Waveform. Many times I find myself wanting to write music around a scene's Dialog or visually see major hits or explosions or punches, or no sound fx. This works directly with #10.

10. Waveform: This gives you the options of adding audio tracks from your project to be ghosted in the key editor. You can adjust order, opacity, waveform height, color, add/remove. etc. I have yet to see anything like this in a DAW and would be experimental for some and very handy in other instances.

11. Layout Selector. Say you want the bottom half of the screen to be your mixer. Boom. no more hundreds of windows. Of course, you can have the option to pop out the mixer if you so desire. This would also be great for the Score Editor feature.

12. Draggable Workspace: Click this enables you to drag your split work spaces up or down or side to side. Right clicking would give you the option to 'lock the height in place.

13. Group Tree Foldout: This is a collapsable and expandable slot that houses your groups for easy switching. This also allows for the Group Tree/Branch Inspector panel to collapse out of view. (#6). From here you can also quickly solo/mute specific groups for easy playback.

14. Global Switch. another space for muting, solo, etc. haven't thought one through yet, but would be nice to have something quick access to globally mute all similiar to track editor's.

15. Tempo View. This should be one of the additional automation lanes. With a Tap Tempo feature for on the fly tempo insertion.

Any devs/designers listening? I'll be happy to answer any questions or consult.

Happy Holidays!

EDIT and Addition...
After writing solid music for a month now, I've come across some things in the key editor that just don't make sense. here's the post or scroll below:
So, I just wanted to give an update to this whole Key Editor window and Cubase 7.5 in general...

Here's a few things that are bugging me about the current Key Editor:

- I've found that there's some many weird quirks trying to switch back and forth with the key editor to the project, picking another instrument and then back to key editor.. When doing so it automatically rewinds the window to the beginning of the instrument's region start. then I find myself having to scroll back to where I was working. (unless auto scroll is one which is a nusance in its own listed further below)

- Another is when you try to set the transport over the "Part Border" (the part's flagged region on top) there's no space to set the transport. I have to literally find a very very small space to click, or I have to push the part name flag over to the left to make room for the cursor. VERY frustrating.

- I still think it's silly they don't include markers in Key editor. It's like flying blind in a timeline without a road map.

- When I select a new group of instrument regions for the key editor, it defaults to velocity and modulation and it's set default height. This becomes a major pain because some regions span the height and I have to constantly either resize the lane window, or choose a preset from the list.

- The "Auto-Scroll" feature gives me a headache. When it plays, it'll move the entire timeline. Why can't it play the transport bar and then 'refresh' the screen with the next 10-15 bars as it scrolls through. like in chunks perhaps? I hate to say it, but Sonar nailed it. (as long as you hit the Scroll Lock btn). Just not very intuitive and smooth to the flow. (this can be argued with many, so go ahead and make your valid point)

- The mixer is just a hot mess and it's scrolls back to the beginning of the group too all the way to the left. I keep finding myself having to scroll back to the end to mess with the EQ or volumes, or whatever plugin i want to tweak for that instrument. (Especially a pain in the arse when there's 50+ instruments in your mixer) many of these woes have to do with Kontakt and my Multi-output setup. (and next...)

- This maybe a Kontakt thing, but when I have multi-outputs for an instance loaded up, my kontakt layers will automatically rename itself according to the Kontakt Output. This is frustrating because I have to keep renaming the track name to know what I'm editing in the mixer. grr. it's only the first one of the group too. ie, i'll name it Violin1 and if I do a clear output or reload my project, the first one becomse St K1. (or something to that effect)

- Using the pencil tool I can only draw on a one line and can only extend the note's duration. I'd like to be able to click a note and drag it around all while hearing the note being played. Otherwise, I have to click and drag the note to the desire length, let go, and then swith to the move tool to move it up and down. A modifier such as Alt, ctrl, or shift would be nice to switch to moving it up, down, left and right.

- I'd love to have the ability to see the varying intensities of notes depending if they are selected. For instance, if you set the key editor Event Color to "Part" the instrument shows the color of the layer. But, all the other instruments are the same intensity making it hard to distinguish which one you've selected. Granted, this is part of my workflow of seeing the entire orchestra in one key editor view. Those of you who only use one at a time do not apply.

- When I hit, Select All, I wish the key editor would combine the regions versus having, Violin1, Violin1, Violin1. This is an issue because if I was to have a feature film on my hand and I hit select all, I would probably have 20+ Violin1 parts. There needs to be an option to "Combine regions as one instrument" in preferences.

The more I mess with the Key Editor the more my overall mockup makes sense. Bouncing back and forth just to select my instruments is a road block and destroys the creative flow. I don't mean to be so picky with this post, but to me these adjustments make sense and I'd imagine it does to others who fancy the key editor as much as I do. I really hope the Cubase coding geniuses are listening.

Cubase is a great product. It has potential to be the best with a few small tweaks.

7.5 issues

So far I'm really enjoying 7.5 - thank you! I have encountered some issues:

1. If the Multiband Compressor is loaded, a tremendous amount of latency is introduced even if the plugin is bypassed or turned off. I understand it's a processor intense plugin, but shouldn't that latency not be present if the plugin is off or bypassed?
2. The track pictures, when rotated to 90 and 270 disappear. Also, can we please get the guitars icons fixed so they're righties (meaning, rotated 270 from the default position)? And maybe a normal looking Strat- or Ibanez-style electric, and acoustic?
3. Can't route multi output channels from Instrument track to a group via the track list in the Inspector in the project window (can only do it via Routing in the mixer).
4. It's already been said, but the first track of a multi output instrument track takes on the role as the first audio output, rather than existing just for MIDI data. It would make more sense for the first track to exist only for MIDI data, and its child tracks to exist for audio output independently.
5. Can the backgrounds for the meter bridge and the equalizer curve in the mixer be switched to black instead of the pale grey? The contrast would be better and thus the visibility would be improved. At the very least, can it be made modifiable via the preferences? This one is big to me.
6. Can't put the click through the Control Room monitors.
7. Configurations for the Mixer don't save the channel widths, or the channel overview/meter bridge/etc. settings.

It would be awesome to have Steinberg acknowledge these and let us know what they plan on doing to address the above-listed issues. Again, thanks!

Re: 2014 - and Cubase 7.5 still does not recognize a USB-dev

It is bad programming on Cubase part. Even Fruity Loops recognizes USB device automatically when turned on while program is already running. If other DAWs can do this, surely Cubase could, if someone would program it that way. Maybe some day they will. But don't blame it on Windows or PC, because all other DAWs recognize new USB just fine without restarting. Cubase is so old in some areas....

Re: New Rack Is Inconsistent

also btw add to the list-- slows down the program, sometimes to the point of crashing, in a busy project. try having a couple dozen instrument tracks loaded while the rack is visible, and go 'select all tracks', or use the "range" tool to make a vertical selection across all the tracks. the rack goes berzerk, trying to select all the instruments in the project one by one, makes the system lag for a while until it recuperates... and sometimes crashes while at that. it's brilliant.

I thought it was just me. I already get lots of eye rolls for constant grousing but although I find Cubase to be -very- reliable, I've noticed that 'the rack' has some definite issues.

and all it would have taken in the development phase was to go ctrl+a in an average project, to realise there is a design flaw. who exactly is testing this thing?
Perhaps it was not seen as a design flaw since this behavior can be turned off.

Re: 2014 - and Cubase 7.5 still does not recognize a USB-dev

I received (2) PMs asking me if I heard anything back yet from Steinberg support.

So here is the update:
I received a 2nd response to my support request from the Steinberg North America support staff on Friday Jan 24, 2014. He said he was forwarding my request (containing links to several forum threads on the same topic) to the Steinberg Development Team in Germany. That's it.

With the weekend in there we got to give them some time to check it out.

[FR]Generic Remote EDIT MODE not working

Under Devices I've setup a generic remote and assigned Button Nr. 10 from my Peavey PC1600x to:

Control Name: Edit Mode
Device: Transport
Channel/Category: Device
Value/Action: editMode
Flags: P,T,N

Since update 7.5.10 this feature is broken!!!
Please bring its functionality back. It was working flawlessly from Cubase 6.5 - 7.5.0 for me.
As a film composer I rely on such a feature to sync my edits to the picture.

Nuendo is not an option.

Thank you

Re: Add Space Between MIDI Notes

For the guy whose avatar is my favorite character from my favorite movie, anything. ;)

This LE + macro moves all notes that are to the right of the cursor later by a given amount, which grows each time you invoke the macro. For an 8 note phrase you would invoke it 7 times.

It requires that
the first note has the same start position as the containing part, for the LE preset to calculate a sensible result
it be be performed in the Key Editor
the part contains only the notes you want to edit
nothing is selected and the cursor
Create LE preset "multiply position":
Filter: Type is Equal to Note
Action: Position: Multiply by 1.x (where x is the factor by which you want the second event to move)

Create macro:

Re: Big Balls for future Cubase versions

I do not think Steinberg should waste resources on "vintage emulations" and synths and that kind of stuff. a Daw like Cubase is supposed to be a general purpose workstation, and should focus on perfecting general functions like bounce in place, GUI and overall workflow optimizations. Genre specific sounds and instruments should come from 3:rd party specialised developers.

Re: Complete Cubase with these...

For me steinberg must change its point of view toward a producer perspective...cubase is probably the best daw for mixing, but it lacks on the side of creativity....i mean, the automation system is the same from cubase sx, nothing is really changed....there is not a modular or a pseudo-modular enviroment where a modulation source can modulate multiple parameters (plugins, volume, pan, etc..) at once. The quickcontrols are so limited that i think that not many of us use them. Why add another reverb, another compressor, another eq, another tape simulation, who needs these?? We have all the tools for a great mixing and if you abosuletly need another tape simulation go to Slate digital and buy the Virtual tape machine or Nebula or another one. I would like that cubase becomes more then a solid daw for mixing and arranging, but an enviroment that inspires me, and actually i miss this factor in cubase. Steinberg should take a look to other daws like ableton, bitwig, flstudio and take some good ideas from them (why not??).
For example, why not add hybrid tracks in cubase 8 with a real bounce in place function? You can have midi and audio on the same track and bounce in place midi to powerful is this? Why not invest your energies in new ideas to improove creativity and workflow in cubase, instead of adding new reverb and compressors?

There was a study (cited below) done on internet commenting styles. 5.6% of those involved in the study said they enjoyed trolling, which is surprisingly high to me. couldn't agree more. I don't need any compressor, reverb or synth from steinberg. I can buy them from small independent developpers or big companies, cheap or expensive, there's alot to choose from. I never used any cubase softsynth once in my life.

As for console emulations, they all sound like crap to me. When compared to real analog summing anyway.

Maybe Steinberg could model analog summing within cubase's mix console? Emulating crosstalk between channels and non linearities, a bit like an enhanced version of Protools Heat. But if they're planning in giving us "another" crap console emulation plugin, please don't. Everybody already owns one of these (Waves NLS, sonimus satson, slate digital VCC, sknote, nebula whatever).

Iro: Track Color Pack for Cubase

Hi everyone.

This is a neat little color pack I made for Cubase 7.5. For me, the default colors were not enough as I tend to have a lot of tracks, often with the same instruments, but with variations. It takes a considerable long time to make a set of new colors so I thought I would share it with you guys so you don't need to do this yourself. Am I not grateful? :D

The pack consists of 8 different main colors with 8 additional shades of each color. 64 colors in total!
Once you install the colors I suggest you do not tamper too much with the intensity/brightness as this can cause some of the colors to look alike. Yes, I did this myself and had to redo everything.

Please see the link to my blog for installation:

I do not have the privilege to test this on a mac or different versions of Cubase. If you are able to successfully apply these colors on another system please share how you did it.

Hope you enjoy it!

Re: [ISSUE]Mixdown out of sync when using Elastique algorith

I have the same exact problem of all this people.
I tried every single test and variables i could remember, even other soundcards.
I've been having this problem since Cubase 6.

In my last project/album, i had to install Pro Tools and LEARN how to use their equivalent tool.

I've been buying all Cubase's, but i'm afraid from now on.
There was lots of updates and nothing solved this.

I go further and say... the people who have these last Cubase's shouldn't pay for the next updates to Cubase 8 (assuming Steinberg will only solve this "little" problem in Cubase 8)

Honestly i think me and the others deserve a refund about this. We have been losing non productive hours testing and re-testing. We are not beta testers, we just want and payed to use flawlessly.

I don't like to criticize and not giving solutions, but unfortunately i can't give solutions.

Re: Tips Tricks And Workflow Goodness.

Hi. This is a great topic. I've learned a lot of things!!.
So I'd like to share some way I use to work with Nuendo:.

1. Take a look at Direct Folders:
It provides the function Cubendo should have long time ago, remembering paths . It also let you go to a folder of your choice (previously configured) with middle mouse double click. Time saver. All the stuff from codesector is top notch (Terra copy bypasses windows copy engine. its 10 times faster)
2. I don't use Track Presets. This function seems broken/ not mature enough. Instead of I use export Track Archives. You can make templates of mixed channels (MIDi, FX,Groups, audio, markers etc.) and recall them from any folder!. Just use Direct Folders :). Takes 2 secs. As a bonus I can instantly recall different Generic Remote setups. Just use DF (from now on I will use this as the Direct Folders name :) )
3. I did post a way to make "fake" VCA" on the Nuendo forum. It is the way I like it :) .
Blue Cat company has got a suite of free gain plugins. The nice thing is they respond to MIDI and can be grouped!
So: Insert x amount of Free Gain plugin into desired channels. Group them. Configure them to respond to a Cubendo's MIDI channel. Instant VCA. Here the link : And: I f you insert the in slot 6 you ride pre fader, slot 7 post fader or a mixture you desire. PT VCA is a joke in comparison LOL.
4. Another thing I was looking for was the soundminers ability to PREVIEW SFX with VST plugins. Solution: Just use Headphone Bus (assuming one is using Control Room). You can insert plugs into the bus and preview Media Bay in real time. Link: It saves some bucks and lets you "design" sfx as you preview database. :geek:

More to come :)
Thank you for the great topic!!

The reinstating of the preset fixes the distortion, but the difference in levels from the stereobus and the mediabay is still flawed....why can't they get the most important things, like consistent and true levels, clean signal etc. right?
I don't want chord tracks/auto-arrangers/flashy new mixer if I can't trust my tools anymore... for does this kind of crucial errors even get past beta testing?

Reproducable solution but not problem - Control Room

Hi all,

Using cubase 7.5.20 174 on 12 core Mac w mavericks 64gb of memory and using Motu 248 card with 2408mk3.

Every so often the outputs of my system just die. That is, no sound comes through. My solution USED to be to restart cubase. From time to time I also had an issue that if I left Cubase on overnight, I would come back to either NO Sound or very warbled distorted sound when I returned to my sessions the next day. The solution would be to shutdown Cubase and restart and all was well again.

Recently, however, instead of restarting cubase, I opened the VST connections panel and clicked on the 'Studio Tab' and toggled the Control Room. Just toggled it. If it was Off, I turn it On, and if it was On I turned it off. Guess What? All the warbling disappeared and I had audio again. I could then retoggle the CR button to the state I need it in and all is fine again.

Also, as part of the same issue, I recently loaded up a Kontakt 5.3 vst instrument. When I tried to use the "rev" sounds (awesome made by Output Audio) ALL sound turned off. I quickly went to the CR panel and toggled the Control Room and all was well. I noticed that every time I loaded a New instrument into this particular Kontakt Interface I had to toggle the CR. Annoying for sure.

So there you have it. For some reason on my system, the Control Room toggle is a fix for two particular problems: 1. NO SOUND 2. Warbled/Distorted Sound.

If you guys can help me sort out the issue so that I don't have the problem at all that would be wonderful.

Thanks in advance

Re: How to create automation track for pitch bend

Certainly :)

Here's my PitchBend.txt file. You can put this in %APPDATA%\Steinberg\Cubase 7.5_64\Scripts\Trackmixer and then add a Track Control plugin and it should be in the selector at the top, called Pitch. If all's working then you get two controls, Bend and Touch. You can then go and control these two values with an automation lane.

The Touch value works at full resolution of 0-127 but the Bend only works on the MSB value 0=127 so it's quite coarse. Adequate for 1 tone bends but maybe not slow bends or large tonal bends (well, try it and see how it works!).

Re: linking automation points

I think the problem is much deeper with a general problem with "linking" being just too rudimentary and not sufficiently thought through. In PT I use groups all the time - when automating manually or editing it, when editing in the edit window, when setting routing etc - and without it done right in Nuendo I just lose time, every single time I work in it. I cringe every time I see add-ons released by Steinberg since those resources would be much better used bringing the basic application - the foundation of the work we do - into this decade as far as some basic functionality is concerned.

By the way David, I saw Chaka two weeks ago. It was... interesting... I envy you!

Re: Nuendo (sound for picture): How do you receive audio?

Thanks Lydiot, I'll check that out.

It seems like project transfers are such an important part of efficient professional workflow that there should be a "connect-a-thon" where NLE and DAW developers have to get together in a room, to prove satisfactory compliance/implementation with the standards and to prove that their import/export functions actually work (or work with declared limited functionality).

Another Vote For Easier CC Drawing

I've been goofing with 'glitching' and EDM 'beats'... stuff that sounds super-hip to me as an old fart but is probably still 10 years outdated. Regardless. I now see just how CRAP Cubase is at doing all the various dance floor doohickies in CCs.

Just one example: Try drawing a nice tempo-aligned triplet dubstep bass WOOM-WOOM-WOOM-WOOM-WOOM-WOOM-WOOM filter sweep. It's -amazingly- difficult. Either you have a death-fight with the quantise. Or you use the sine=wave drawer tool which doesn't like triplets. Or you give up and just do it by hand... which isn't as mechanically perfect as a sine wave.

I dunno about 'Bezier' curves. That seems overkill. BUT there should be a -simple- way to draw in precise, repeatable, beat=synched controller data. The current tools are (almost) as time-consuming as cutting samples by hand like Max Headroom.

Re: Slow MACRO timing, OR add 'pause command'

if someone takes time to look at this, the way to go probably should not be to create another workaround, but instead to make sure commands return some 'completed' command behind the scenes and the users do not deal with inserting wait-commands like they're some sort of programmers. :)

Absolutely. I've always thought that inserting wait commands was a bit flaky, even though I am 'some sort of programmer'.

Re: Cubase 7.5.3 Snap Point Marker

These snap points have been around forever. There's a preference for making clips snap to the snap point OR the clip start. Just have to pick one and stick with it. ;)

How to edit a 30 second cutdown like a pro!

Hi all,

Hopefully the lounge is a good place for this:

As well as being a composer myself I'm also involved with the running of a production music library. One of the biggest problems we repeatedly get from composer's music submissions is the poor quality of their 30 second edits. More often than not I end up having to do the cuts for them and I kept promising myself to write a blog article explaining how (and why) to do it well.

So anyway I finally wrote it! Hopefully it will be of use to some of you who are wanting to get into the world of production music. Please feel free to give me your thoughts (like I need to ask people here to express an opinion)!

Re: Cubase 8 error win7x64 "opening error" "aero theme" etc.

I hate aero. Every serious music maker use the classic theme. Please don't force us to use it!

Re: Heres How get rid of the glow fonts in aero

Yes, you can choose any colour you want. Heres a pic of the settings I used and the boxes/screen you need to open to achieve a custom theme, (you can get to them all in the control panel)

The only pic I want to see is of this mythical dark menu bar with no glowing font ;)

Re: BRILLIANT IDEAS for workflow!! devs take note

Ah I found it. Thank you. It's as easy as "container type = track" then prepend to name... But the menu you created is great. I am going to build something like it, and try to remove all those key combinations from my brain.

Re: Cubase 7 sounds better than 8 here at first sight

Just a note: You all remember that the Channel EQ has changed completely with version 7? Means a mix from Cubase 6.5 or smaller will under NO circumstances null with a mix done with Cubase 7.0 or higher, as long as you use the Channel EQ. Up to now, I have NOT heard anything similar regarding the Channel EQ from v7.x to 8.0.

Re: Cubase 8 Pro was not ready for public release

I concur.

Whilst I'm loving a lot of new features, the fact it crashes every time I try and bounce anything made in the previous version is beyond annoying. I'd had no issues with previous updates, and only installed as was supposed to be having a bit of a break over xmas, but I'm in the middle of finishing demos for an album, and was really excited about finishing it with some of the new tricks in Cubase 8, but it's become apparent that's highly unlikely.

I may have to try the fresh install idea, but considering my machine has only ever had Cubase, Ableton, Soundforge and Audiomulch installed on it, with no internet connection, it's one of the most basic setups I've seen, without years of messed up registry to complicate matters, I'm not convinced that would help as much.

I've established that big projects run better if I load a small cubase file first. The makers of my PC have also suggested that a lot of issues are in the graphics card, (Steinberg have really stitched people up by making something far more suited to an unreleased OS), and recommended upgrading the graphics cards to something like the new AMD Radeon R7 (min 260 version), but I've seen people with similar cards complaining that they could only gain a stable system by removing these cards and just using basic graphics from the motherboard.

Would definitely be interested in peoples thoughts on this. I want to love this software so much, but when your management and label are telling you to go back to the older version cause you're *quiz* off 24/7 and haven't submitted any music for a month, there's definitely something up!

Re: Still no bezier curves in automation!!!!!

All joking aside, this -is- a drag. Like it or not, the world has gone EDM and if you do electronica of any kind you GOTTA be able to -easily- and -precisely- draw complex patterns.

I've been struggling (literally) for months with a vocoder effect in Reaktor where I want to modulate a formant filter to make various 'syllables' really POP on certain bars/beats.

What I -want- should be easy as pie: imagine a sine wave pattern that is itself modulated by a square wave.

Now... try -drawing- that in Cubase. Can it be done? Sure. You can also break out of Shawshank in 19 years.

Electronica lives and dies by creating complex automation like this and without precise drawing tools it's a total pain. You can have all the new synths in the world, but good automation is what makes it -interesting-.

Re: 16 inserts per track

I can't see anyone needing more than the current amount if they are actually creating or recording and mixing music rather than playing with a million different plugin chains. I'm pretty sure there were a couple folks who wondered why anyone would ever need more then 16 channels for a mix!

I often use or at least check pre-post VU meters, or have a dedicated HPF, or have a console workflow. I have been moving towards more FX with mix knobs to save mixer space when I can, and I like to audition compressors without spending too much time dragging and dropping. In the case of for ex. UAD MKIIs that have 3 versions that need to be A/B'd quickly, it would be nice to have space to load all 3 at once.

I think it's quite a crude ideology to have the flexibility of a computer and not use it. I remember when we first got layers in Adobe. Then we got multiple undo. then we got layer comps and variations, and smart objects. This is smart stuff. it increases my workflow, I am better and more efficient as an artist, and it has improved my skill set. Demands grow, keep up or get out is the way it works here.

I'm equally confused why folks are so against these sort of requests. As an artist, we do realize that this is not a science, and different artists have differing workflows, and there's no rule to it. No one here gets to create the rules for others' music, so yeah I am utterly confused as to an artist having this perspective.
