Re: Sample Editor "Half-Level Axis"....

Well, In the open Sample Editor when I right click over the sample (wave) it's at the bottom of the list -- In Preferences/Editing/Tools "Pop-up toolbox on Right Click" is off = no tick

I noticed it while searching for the now non existent grid for Free Warp.

Re: Working with Automation. can it be fast as in PT?

A couple of things which will speed this process up.

- Open your automation panel and under settings make sure reveal parameter on write and show waveform data on tracks is enabled. This means that any parameter that is written will be revealed in automation lanes without having to search through and you can also see your waveform data underneath the automation.

- If you want to "draw" a quick volume change over the section you can use the line tool rather than the pencil tool which will create the 4 automation points.

- You can quickly use the info line to set automation data. When entering numbers you can either use enter for relative change or ctrl + enter for absolute change. This makes it very easy for example to rubber band some automation points and either adjust them relative to each other or set them all to a specific value.

Re: New control surface for Cubase..? 8...? Please..?

I like the Steinberg CMC-CH controllers, I have all of them (including 4x FD's in their dedicated case), but I understand that some people can't stand the feel of the FD modules because they're used to traditional faders (it actually doesn't take long to get used to the touch faders. Your mileage may vary, of course...)

Behringer has a brand new controller called X-TOUCH , which is way better than the old BCF2000. Better construction, better precision and no more motor noise. Also way better MIDI implementation (no more headaches to configure it as you wish...) Very reasonable price. Tried it at NAMM earlier this year, very good response, seems pretty solid. If I weren't very satisfied with my FD's (I actually like touch faders, they have several important advantages IMHO) and the other CMC-CH's, I would seriously consider it.

Re: Cursor flickering & Auto Scroll jerky

Here's a link to a discussion on the matter. In the very first post there are a video to show how/when/why? it happens

Please read through, but here are the link directly to Steinberg's Ed Doll's answer:

Hope that helps (just don't buy a new video card yet) :)

Iro: Track Color Pack for Cubase

Hi everyone.

This is a neat little color pack I made for Cubase 7.5. For me, the default colors were not enough as I tend to have a lot of tracks, often with the same instruments, but with variations. It takes a considerable long time to make a set of new colors so I thought I would share it with you guys so you don't need to do this yourself. Am I not grateful? :D

The pack consists of 8 different main colors with 8 additional shades of each color. Once you install the colors I suggest you do not tamper too much with the intensity/brightness as this can cause some of the colors to look alike. Yes, I did this myself and had to redo everything.

UPDATE: Includes 8 additional colors. These colors are the same color scheme as for the DAWLAB website I am running.

Please see the link to my blog for installation:

I do not have the privilege to test this on a mac or different versions of Cubase. If you are able to successfully apply these colors on another system please share how you did it.

Hope you enjoy it!

Re: Mediabay - happy with the order of listings..?

"Agreed, but only if there is no 2 - 9 available, yes..?"

No, anything with a "1" in same column will be listed first.
Then anything with "2".
Same thing as it would be a letter "a" is before "b" etc.
A shorter string is considered lower value - so 10 come after one - unless right adjusted.

See each string as x columns of letters, and rows of strings like that, each column get sorted from left to right.

So you can affect the sort order with how you name things.

When you allow both letters and numbers in a string - I don't think we will see numbered ordering, since in most cases it's impossible. If ending with numbers it would be possible to handle that and insert fills to rightadjust it.

So if you name stuff with ending numbers - just do it like 001, 002 and similar. Then it will sort like you want.

Myself I would love to naming templates for just about everything. You know with placeholders "NNNNNNNNNN" for 10 position name, "HHMMSS" for timestamp etc. "000" could be number always three positions, with leading zeros. This for audio files, projects files and anything really.

In Reaper you have this ability.

Re: Cubase 8 wishes

+1 to all these great suggestions/ideas.

Here's something I've not seen mentioned:-

The ability to see the whole plugin chain (inserts) for that channel, in the plugins header area - no matter which or whose (manufacturer) plugin you open first. You can see this work great in Wavelab 8.5 and Studio One. You simply stay in the one window and click on the plugin name in the header area, to switch the view to that plugin UI. Really quick, smooth, elegant workflow.

Forgive me if something of this is already available in Cubase, and I haven't seen it... please advise..!

In Studio One you can also assign a key command for moving back and forth between the plugins. Great when tweaking (I have those KC's on two adjecent keys, where I have my left ring and middle finger).
You can also use the mouse wheel.

Re: Isn't it possible to route midi out from Groove Agent 4?

Good morning gentlemen,

I guess it's about time to show some commitment (before I get fired...).

Actually it's just not possible to answer every question, feature request, or inquiry that are posted in the forum. But I can assure you that we are browsing the forum and reading you posts on a regular basis. And we take your thoughts and discussions seriously.

I can totally understand that it may be frustrating sometimes, when you are asking for a solution or a feature and there is no direct response from Steinberg, whether the problem will be solved or certain features will be implemented. But we can't talk about future releases before we are dead certain, which fixes and features will make it in the release version and when the version will be ready to be released. I hope you somewhat understand that we cannot always be as transparent in the development of our software as you would like us to be. [End of the defense plea...]

Here is the good news. Even before Groove Agent 4 was officially released the team started working on the first update. There is no release date yet and the list of fixes and improvements is not yet finalised, but trust me, this thread can be marked as "solved" after the update will be released.

Re: Will there be a Cubase 7.5.4 before Cubase 8 is released

Hello all,

I can't name a date but I can tell you that there will definitely be a Cubase 7.5.40 version and that is with 100% certainty.

All the best

Re: Visual indicators in the Ruler (Punch-in, Pre-roll and m

This brings me towards the suggestion that the L/R cycle markers should be separate to the punch In/Out markers... Although we have pre and post-roll, it would be more intuitive to be able to create a loop and then specify I/O punches inside the loop just when you choose to.

Oh, another suggestion that stems from that is then the Punch I/O markers are automatically set when you manually punch in and out - ready for being automatic if another take is needed.

Visual indicators in the Ruler (Punch-in, Pre-roll and more)

For better visualisation of Transport behaviour settings, some colored indicators could be introduced to the Ruler:

Change color of the white Locator flags to visualize when Punch-in is active:

- Left Locator flag red when Punch-in is active.
- Right Locator flag red when Punch-out is active.

And new green colored flags in the Ruler for
- Pre-roll position
- Post-roll position
if they are active (static if recording from Left Locator, but Pre-roll position would only be shown in Stop mode if recording from Cursor).

And a visual indicator in the Ruler for Record Start position: Left Locator or Cursor .
It could be a red dot or arrow or something at the actual position, shown only in Stop mode.

And, as in another Feature Request, when in Cycle mode the cycle range could change color, preferrably to the same color as the cycle button ).

Cubase Pro 8.0.10 maintenance release planned for March

Hello all,

I would like to inform you that the next Cubase 8 update (8.0.10) has been delayed it will now be released in the middle of March. This update addresses issues with the pre-count and metronome click, resolves issues using Mackie Control remotes and improves stability using third-party plug-ins. A complete list of fixes will be announced at the date of availability.

Best regards,

Re: 24 Ports via ADAT and Minimum 16 ports of Analog Needed

there is no firmware/software update that can allow this. You can't daisy-chain units with USB, so when using two units as stand-alone you will always be limited to the facilities available on the master device, i.e. 8 analogue ins and outs 2x ADAT ins and outs (plus the phones outs).

I'm not in the position to reply extensively to your questions, but I'm not aware of a discontinuation of this unit.

Re: McDSP v6 release - no VST3

Am I dense? The main site says vst3 now supported.

And at naam
Apart from the one logo on the front page, I can see no other reference to VST3 support specifically anywhere else on their main site. Did you see something I have missed..?

The YT naam vid is a pre-release announcement from January this year, when they were stating VST3 editions included with their next big update. The actual release info posted yesterday, I'd picked up from the listing on KVR front page - and there is no logo, no mention of VST3 at all. Anywhere.

Ok, first off, why on earth would McDsp show a VST3 icon if they didn't support VST3?

Every one of those links I just shared with you shows VST3 support. I also downloaded a demo. Guess what? VST3!

So they've run into some grief or other trying to support this platform; they said back in January, it would be there... 2 months later, and seems it wasn't worth it. Like it was for U-he and probably many others, the VST3 debacle continues.

Try not to take this the wrong way. I understand you want the VST3 versions, and they really do exist! BUT.... to form that statement that I just quoted above ^^^ is a far reach from truth because you had no facts. i.e.: You assumed there wasn't vst3 support because KVR didn't share it. You are a bad bad boy!! :D Stare at the cow!

So, have joy! I used to use these plugins all the time in PT. I'm glad to see them come back to life and come to vst. My favorite is/was the ae400 active EQ.

McDSP's own blog post explicitly mentions VST3.

I just bought my first McDSP (v6) plugins earlier this week. Will confirm whether VST3 is there.

Re: Windows 10 - please do not upgrade! Discussion

Windows 10 is always going to be a 'work in progress'. There will never be a Windows 10 in a locked down, no more updates state. If we accept that, then Steinberg's decision to wait for RTM may be correct, but how do they know that a future update won't 'break' Cubase's functionality in some way? They don't, nor can they know.

I used to work in software management and it isn't easy. For the record, I have gone to Windows 10 and all seems fine, but I can understand why people are cautious. They are good people who are doing their job as best they can.

Indeed, there is no guarantee but at the moment it's very much about rather fundamental issues that need to be addressed and Microsoft contacted us as a result of our statement regarding Windows 10 compatibility. We are working on a solution with Microsoft now and they are really eager to have it working as they put much effort in the audio parts of Windows 10.
