Please obey copyrights!

Dear forum members,

It is important that everyone thinks twice before posting links to content outside the forum. Because the legal position differs from country to country, we have to remain vigilant that posts do not contain links to copyrighted material where the copyright owner is not posting the link. Special attention needs to be paid when you post links to music downloads as well. This means that we might remove links from posts with no further discussion or justification if there's any doubt.

YouTube etc.
Please do not post links to music tracks or videos unless 1) the site is licenced to do so 2) you own the copyright in that content or 3) you have permission from the copyright holder. Sites like YouTube are currently in high level legal negotiation with various labels, publishers and collection societies and as such Steinberg cannot allow links to tracks and videos on these sites.

Steinberg obviously wants people to respect the copyright in its software and as such we must help protect the rights of other copyright holders.

Once sites like YouTube are properly licenced then we can look at this issue again but until then we cannot allow YouTube, etc links where the material is a copyright infringment and these will have to be deleted.

Steinberg have sought legal advice on this and this is the way we have to do it.

Thanks for your understanding.

Re: Steinberg's dongle alternative coming

1. The ability to have the eLicenser on a local network, so that other local computers could be used, without moving the dongle around. This should not be compromising, since I believe that *most* users only own one license per product anyways. And the ones that can afford it, would probably buy additional licenses anyhow, since that would keep their progress from being interrupted in case of network problems.

There might be an external solution available for this task:
http://www.seh-technology.com/products/usb-device-servers/myutn-50a.html

We have had a test run here at work and it worked very well. The USB-eLicenser is available on the network and you can "take it" to be able to work on your system. It is not possible to use the same USB-eLicenser simultaneously on different systems though.
Also note that this is not an official recommendation because we haven't done any official tests so far.

Regarding the USB-eLicenser dicussion in general, I can only say that the USB-eLicenser will be here for some time to come. We are currently discussing a shorter version that would be introduced during next year if everything works as expected and we are also discussing a rather simple way for you to cover short term downtimes due to a USB-eLicenser failure or theft. No details are available yet but we'll let you know!

Sorry, rytis but that was way over the top which is why you cannot participate anymore. As mentioned earlier, we have a support in the US so if you do not want to speak to Germans, there you go...

Re: Cubase 7.5 update or reinstall ?

The Cubase 7.5 update itself is only around 1 GB per platform but the new HALion Sonic SE 2 content adds up to that. The update itself needs a Cubase 7 on the system and you should simply use that to move to 7.5. However, we will also provide the complete ISO image for download as well. That is 7 GB plus the new content (3 GB).

Re: Cubase 7.5 update or reinstall ?

You should only use the ISO if want to install from scratch. There is no reason to let it install into an existing Cubase 7 folder. Regularly installed content will be detected of course.

Re: Cubase 7.5 update or reinstall ?

You can install Cubase 7.5 directly as the essential part will be covered. Additional stuff like videos and external content is not part of the updater but again, it's not essential. If you want everything, go for the ISO image.

Audio issues with late 2013 iMacs and fusion drives

Over the last weeks, we have been contacted by several customers using a late 2013 iMac system with a fusion drive and one of our audio interfaces on Mavericks.
Usually, drop outs not only in Cubase but also on Youtube, iTunes etc. occur

We just received the confirmation from Apple that a fix for this issue - which btw is not limited to our applications and audio interfaces - needs to come from Apple with an update.
Unfortunately, the latest Mavericks 10.9.1 update does not address this. We hope to have a fix or at least more information on this topic in January.

There is an ongoing discussion on the Apple forum on this:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5428602

Here is a description taken from the Apple forum that could be a workaround for the time being. The key is to bypass the flash part of the fusion drive:
>>>
1) Create a bootable OS X external Disk, Boot from that and then install [your audio application] on it.... and use that for [...] any Audio work..for the time being.. until a fix is released by Apple for this issue. Make sure you do not access any data on the FD drive after booting from the external drive otherwise the issue will reappear. until you restart your Mac and reboot from the EXT drive.. You can however, boot from the FD when not doing Audio related work.

2) Split your Fusion drive into an SSD and a Mech drive (again for the time being) and then reassemble the FD after the fix has been issued.

3) Return your iMac for one with an SSD or mech drive inside (if you still can..)

4) Do nothing and wait until Apple releases a fix for the problem... though there is no official ETA for any such fix...

Re: Steinberg - Please fire your website designers

This is why web browsers have this brilliant feature called bookmarks. It's not like every user has the same priorities and interests when browsing our website content and this is why some pages require more than one click.

That's not a good excuse for clunky web design. Most sites have site maps where you can reach every part of it with a single click. You should consider it, but then again you made it abundantly clear that you think your website is blameless and perfect and therefore you don't accept any suggestion. Pity.

Why is everything either black or white these days? Of course, the website has room for improvement - a lot actually - and the guys we decided not to fire are currently working on improvements. Judging the website by taking the separate forum (it's just phpBB) as an example isn't the best choice me thinks ;)

Re: Steinberg + Arturia

I think that Arturia is taking care of all the orders but need some time to do so. We at Steinberg can't do anything as we only provided a code for the Arturia shop. We don't have any access to the data you submitted during the order process. Sorry for this inconvenience!

The Steinberg/Arturia promotion was quite successful and combined with some technical issues on their end this all added up to the issues some of you now experience. I think with some patience, you will all receive the software you paid for :-)

Re: UR44 Issue

The volume is indeed dropped to -3dB when turning on the channel link switch. According to the engineers this is due to the fact that the norminal position of the panpot is different between channel link on and off.

When channel link is on, the norminal position is "turned left or right" position. If you turn to center, volume is decreased from 0dB to -3dB.
When channel link off, it is "center" position. If you turn to left or right, volume is increased from 0dB to +3dB.

If one sets the panpot to left and right before clicking channel link switch, volume will be returned from +3dB to 0dB (norminal level) when channel link is clicked.

BTW, the behavior of the channel link on the MR and UR series is the same as the default settings of YAMAHA digital mixers such as CL, QL and etc...

Re: where is Steinberg?

I'm a little worried?
-Various documentation not being updated

Which one exactly?

-Many new mods doing close to nothing - or handling level 1 knowledge posts

True but this is simply because every support team member here in Hamburg gets moderator status automatically. We have added several new members to the team but our focus still is on emails and phone support. If time permits, we do more than just moderation and first level support here as well.

-Forum buggy

Any examples?

-Old features not being enhanced to match current Cubase or time
-Updates/Fixes coming in at an alarmingly slow rate
-Many *universal* workflow enhancements being ignored
-great ideas not being implemented

We love great ideas but it's always a matter of priorities and even greater ideas that need to be implemented first ;)
These points could start another discussion I'd rather avoid as we have many of these in this forum already. We try our best to make it right for everyone which is not always possible.

maybe i am disillusioned, or not in a musical state of mind atm to notice these things.. idk...
Many times I think that it would take me 1 month at HQ to fix things up and propel the software and the company to where it should be in 2014.
It cant be because of missing money as yamahas net sales last year was something like 366 Billion Yen (over 3 billion$). - So what is it?
Are the original Devs still there? - How many Devs are working on what?
Are you giving up?
Do you need some help from advanced beings?

Thank you for the offer but we are fine and some of the developers from the beginning are still here. Even Charlie Steinberg says hi every now and then. As an independent company under the Yamaha umbrella, we do add to the Yamaha revenue but we still have to work with the money we make ourselves. Without getting into trouble, I can reveal that Steinberg is far from having 3 billion USD available ;)

edit: ech.. whatever.. its not a steinberg only thing... its the same with all civilizations, people, companies and products... sometimes i just freak out knowing that our progression is being slowed down on purpose..
nothing to see here.. move on...

Try to look at the bright side of things in life. Maybe there are actually some good things about us and our software as well. You never know! :)

Re: Handbuch Cubase 7.5

Ich frage mich nur folgendes. Wie soll ein Newcomer seine zwangsläufig entstehenden Fragen beantworten.
A: mit dem Steinberg-Support? Der antwortet mit 3-10 tätiger Verspätung oder NIE. Angeblich Ticket verschwunden

Re: UR22 to hot... a good thing???

Hi, I'm also having issues recording eletric guitars in Hi-Z input. Too hot, the signal is clipping. Please, I wanna know how to solve this. Thanks.

The reason, I am not posting the process in here is that there are different ways to address this depending on where you live. In your case, please get in contact with our distributor:

They should be able to assist. Thank you!

Re: Dongle question, stick with old or transfer to new?

First, we are talking ms or μs here and not significant by any means. I doubt that this improves the project or Cubase load times. But eLicenser calls happening while using the program will be a little faster. Again, you won't notice it.

Re: eLicencer responding whenever..

USB 3.0 is not needed for the USB-eLicenser. If issues come up, it is usually with the USB 3.0 ports.
Make sure to install the latest eLC available from http://www.elcc.eu
Also, please check whether there are updates available for the mainboard drivers and if you have many USB devices connected, please test without the one that are not needed for Cubase.

Re: Upgrading from Groove Agent 1&2 to Groove Agent 4

First, if you have a Groove Agent 1 disc - no matter if second hand or not - you can use it to request an update for Groove Agent 4.
Groove Agent 1 does not have to be installed on the new system to run Groove Agent 4.

And yes, we have been busy or better not well staffed over the last week... sorry for that! Most of the team is back though and you should receive answers - at least if you have requested support from the European support team.

Re: In 2014, what is Steinberg's procedure for a lost elicen

We do replace licenses on these conditions:

- The license must not have been replaced before.
- The lost USB-eLicenser must be identified (best option is a registered eLicenser in MySteinberg)
- We must have received a signed statement certifying the loss of the dongle.

We can then disable the USB-eLicenser and provide new activation codes. To keep the downtime short, a spare USB-eLicenser is not a bad idea so that you can download the license(s) as soon as you receive the activation code(s). The turn around time depends on where you live and which support team is handling the case but it is usually very low.

We are also working on a better solution for MySteinberg which will hopefully become effective within this year.

Re: In 2014, what is Steinberg's procedure for a lost elicen

The solution includes a temporary licenses that can be requested in MySteinberg once a USB-eLicenser is lost or defective. This way you can continue working until regular license replacements are issued by support. Of course, this requires a spare USB-eLicenser to make sure you really have a zero downtime.

Not sure how this is related to Cubase 8 or any forum activity though?
