Re: Official Windows 7 64 optimizations?

Hi all! :)

AERO on Windows 7 Windows 8 - OS-X Cocoa Frameworks
As someone already point out, AERO need to be ON to direct all graphic processing to use GPU instead on CPU.
You want the plugins and the Software instruments use all the CPU recourses not the graphic.

There are non benefits to disable AERO only the opposite.
All you see with AERO turn on is handle 100% by the GPU on the graphic card. So it can be good idea to invest in a better graphic card. DSP coding just increase every day so we will see more GPU based coding and add of more functions like plugins use the GPU processing in example Cubase in the near future.

In fact already today many 3 part manufactories base their GUI code and API calls around AERO - directed to the GPU on both Windows 7 / 8 and OS-X . Disable it you will get crashes and conflicts in Windows 7 and 8. On OS-X you can't disable their coca framework and that is a good thing. I hope Microsoft will take that option away so can't disable AERO in the near future.

On Windows 95, 98 and XP all Graphic behavior was to directed all to the CPU only. On XP; direct-Windows and Programs graphic processing to the GPU on the graphic card was not possible as it is today in Windows 7 and 8. There for it was recommend to use so low graphic in use as possible because it took away CPU resources for the plugins and software's in XP. Today that is history.

About MIDI, no its not a background task either. Its a real time operation. MIDI messages are made up of 8-bit words, and are transmitted serially at a rate of 31.25 kbaud.

About Process scheduler on XP to "background task".

That tweak has been used and abused since Matthias Carsten at RME come up with this great tweak on XP. It was meant to be used with specific RME hardware on XP platform only to provide better low latency from 23ms to 3ms.
Even Mattias Carsten that is the original founder of this tweak say as I do and Microsoft and all the tech Gurus in the world would say; that on VISTA, WINDOWS 7 and Windows 8 it should be set to PROGRAM. ;)

POWER Schema shall be on FULL too. Check all USB port too so isn't set to sleep.

BIOS setting- disable all C-wait and Sleep!

UAC-User Account Control
You can go ahead and disable that in Windows 7 and 8. There were talk to take away that feature completely in Windows 8.1 update "Windows Blue". Its no needed as in Windows 8 has another kernel core protection further down inside the core base that has stronger protections against bad code then UAC.

Windows hibernation
Windows hibernation can be a good idea to take away to free up space especially if you use SSD on /C: Windows.
Check the Internet how to do that.

Core parking It can be a good idea on some system to disable "core-parking" in Windows 7 and 8. This is advance operation thru reg-edit so if you have no experience you can mess up your system pretty bad and completely.

Re: NEW CMC TOOLS AND FIRMWARE

I wonder too?

I would like at least that Steinberg add so "PD"'s lights are activated too like the rest of the CMC controllers. ;)

Add a new shift mode. Add so "shift" button are hold "shift-lock" if you held "shift" down for a period time example 2 sec. That would be very useful especial working with "FD" and "CH"-controller, controlling small fader movements. :)

Any news or announcement about the next Cubase 7 update going to be release?

I think its more then me that just wonder when... :)

I'm amazed how stable DAW Cubase 7 is on Windows 7 x64 in my everyday work. Its really a Top professional product.
Cubase 7 are the one of the best Cubase version that I had the pleasure to work with so far. ;)

Thanks in advance and for making a outstanding product, Steinberg Team.

Do you have a special topic in mind, or just for fun

btw, are you Freddie H from the Cakewalk Sonar forum?
Did you switch the "DAW-sides"?

Hi there! ;)

Yes, I use Cubase 7 now. ( I have used Cubase before, in many years since Atari + other DAWs)
I still think SONAR X series is really good especially Pro channel. X3 is real upgrade with ARA and VST3 but I haven't upgrade yet.

I'm so very pleased with Cubase, so invested in CMC-series too. Its a real pleasure to work with Cubase on Windows 7 x64. Outstanding stability and most available advance features on the DAW market.

I like all the new features in Cubase 7.0.6,the new mixers-view, Trackstrip, icons, completely free color GUI-environment etc. I think the version 7 its the best version so far.

Re: If it was your money?

If you ask me..

1. Build myself a great computer, I7, 16GB RAM, ASUS, NVIDIA-graphic, Intel SSD (only C Windows) Windows 7 or 8.

2. Buy a great audio card.

Budget alternative:
Focusrite series, Steinberg hardware, E-mu 1616M (E-mu use high-end converters. Best bang for the buck).

High-end alternative :
Antelope Orion 32 (Usb), Lynx aurora 16 with RME PCExpress-card. Prism Sound Orpheus.

3. Buy Cubase 7

4. Buy monitor.

Budget alternative:
Event 2030 or ADAM A77X

I use it myself. ;)

7. Studio treatment. Doesn't cost much these days.
Focus on base traps, corners and behind you.

(8. Extra! High-end extra : Hardware outboard, compressors etc.)

Manley, elysian, SPL, DBX, Drawmer 1968MK II, Chandler Limited, Daking FET Compressor III, NEVE, ART, SSL etc...

*Note: I don´t recommenced UAD2 or Waves. Waves is very good but there are so many native options that are better these days. ;) Waves is still pricey but still value. UAD2 is just overpriced dongle "chip" software that has lost its true meaning these days. Don't fall for the hype! ;)

Hope it help!

Re: [] Freeze VST Instrument track and C7 EQ

ISSUE has been resolved in CUBASE 7.0.6
Thank you Steinberg fixing this issue with freezed "Instrument tracks".

Now I can start use it again... ;)
It were a very simple and smart fix by Steinberg's programmers.
Note: The new behavior is that they have exclude "MixConsole channel" and "Track EQ" of any freezed VST instrument-Track , situation always. You can still include and FREEZE then "Insert FXs" though.

Thank you very much for this one! Much better functionality. :D

The foto shows the upper part of a iphone. It,s got to be something with hard or software in combination with the iphone or ipad or Cubasis 2.0..

I wouldn't say that I hate Apple. It's rather some sort of not being bothered with their stuff, like I'm not bothered with stuff by many other companies that I actually don't hate.
Anyway, I don't own iStuff and I'm surely not going to buy it only for running Steinberg apps.

Amen.

Except for the fact that I have political reasons (freedom of speech, full ownership of my own devices, anti - censorship, fixed battery, etc...) not to buy i*.*.

+1

We have a dongle already...we don't need another one. :)

Good advice if you thinking on build DAW computer yourself!

Good advice and recommendations if you thinking on build your DAW computer yourself!

Hi all! :D

For anyone that are interesting I build my computer myself and managing the systems. You get much better performance and DAW computer and you can specific quality components into your setup. You need still to know "what" quality component to add into the setup.
Also you need still have a lot of "knowhow" , how to do it so its not for everyone especially the novice user or if you have no experience with electro engineering.

I would recommend you have someone that guide you "how to do it safe" the first time. Also read up and check a lot of videos on Internet before you decide to build yourself. ;)

Its important you don't touch specific parts with your fingers. Otherwise you can basically destroy the electro components and everything, ending up to being a costly experiment instead.

Use high-quality antistatic gloves all the time especially working around with the CPU, memory, motherboard and cards.. ;)

Take your time "months" and gather so much info before you begin order component and building the computer. :)
To make a great DAW computer I recommends these high-quality component manufactories.

[Features] Important new feature suggestions on CMC-Series!

Important new feature suggestions on CMC-Series!

I know many of you have already talk about this and its a wanted features. I just thought it could be good idea to make a new thread with all collected new nice feature suggestions. ;)

1. Make so the PD (Pad controller) LED-light are activated like the rest controllers. Many of us have dim light conditions in the studio. I use mostly mien with key commands shortcuts on the pads. Its hard to see what pads to press in the dark.

2. Activate so "Shift" -hold can be used as a new available feature.
Especially useful on FD (Fader Controller), CH (Channel Controller) , QC (Quick Controller) controlling fine faders moves or pan without need to press and hold down manually the "SHIFT" button with another finger. Instead "SHIFT" are automatic hold until you press the "shift" button again to turn it off.

3. AI - Better integration so you can brows more freely with other views example " MEDIA BAY" with help of AI (AI Controller).
In fact all other Synths like Omnisphere, Kontakt, Massive and all other browsers views would be more then helpful.

4. Better and smart global integration on own set F1, F2, F3, F4-keys "key commands.
Especially in use of two or more screens. After setting up different "key commands" on F1, F2, F3, F4 doesn't always react until you have the right view activated. You need often activated it with help of the mouse, example Mixer-View.

If I example setup a F1 button on any controller to use the "key command" -->> "Show Channel Stip"-view in the mixer page nothing happen until I active the Mixer-view on the second monitor with help of the mouse.
It would be better if it react even though my mouse are working on another page example the "Arrangement window", on the first monitor screen. "Global -Smart". I shouldn't need to active the mixer page with the mouse to be able to use and react on the key command.

5. Dedicate a button on QC (Quick Controller) that automatic control all Send levels (1-8) in the Mixer View. Today you need manually learn all sends as Quick controls instead. It would be nice if that were taken care of automatic. To select the "Send" levels, you should only need to example press the "MIDI" Button on QC.

6. QC- (Quick Controller), Quick control settings of 3part VST plugins, are saved in a global memory and are recalled and recognized automatic.
You can save QC-settings global of any VST3 or VST2.4, 3part plugins. Then Cubase and QC automatic recognized that settings next time the plugins are in use. Example if plugin "x" are in focused, these are all the my QC-nobs.

7. QC- (Quick Controller), be able to select the "EQ-Type" on all bands remotely with help of the QC.
Today you need to use the mouse to change type.

8. QC ... quick control banks

You can vote on all 8 if you like.
Fell free to add more features that you think is missing. :)

Re: Quantizing Audio AND Musical Mode - Users, please read a

Seems to me this should be a pretty huge topic as it's either a massive oversight on Steinberg's end or I'm missing something. Far as I can tell, we have to choose one or the other: we can either have Cubase quantize audio (see the excellent tutorial on cubasetutorial.net - most of the way down the screen) OR use Musical Mode, where Cubase puts hitpoints/Audio Warp markers at regular intervals, with no regard to the hitpoints (transients) it detected.

If Cubase can detect transients and quantize accordingly - meaning it's moving transients to recognized points on the Tempo-based grid - why can't it base Musical Mode on those (rather than intervals that don't necessarily have any useful relationship to the content onto which they're applied)? As it is, if we quantize audio and then enable Musical Mode, Cubase effectively undoes all the quantization.

Why can't we have both? Having quantized audio that is responsive to tempo adjustments we make after the matter would be incredibly useful.

Thanks!

I don't exactly understand your question but if your have recorded audio material in example 98bpm and Cubase doesn't understand the time base material is 98bpm. Do as following.

1. Press CTRL+P to open AUDIO POOL.
2. Find the audio clip you like to active that Cubase 7 hasn't detect the tempo.
3. Activate the clip "Empty box" and add the tempo manual =98bpm.
4. Close AUDIO POOL.

Now you can quantize the audio file or what ever...

THANK YOU STEINBERG!! Cubase 7 and Cubase 7.5 are amazing!!!

THANK YOU STEINBERG!! Cubase 7 and Cubase 7.5 are amazing!!!!
:D :D :D :D :) :) :) :) :!:

Overall, I must say Cubase 7 has been one of the best DAWs I have ever worked with thru all the years. And now, the new Cubase 7.5 hasn't exactly made it any worse. ;) :D

Extremely stable DAW on PC Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. Never ever crashed once!!!
I has never been so amazed over a DAW... ever. Cubase comes with so many great functions too!

I love the new scalable MIXER-view and new Control-room, new Track EQ with analyzer, just the "Meter section" alone cost more then Cubase 7. Meters like K-14, K-12, K-20, EBU-scale, DIN-scale etc.
Add of own ICONS add of own color customization is a wanted feature for years from many users and especially from me. "Dark arrange background". ;)

And the new hide channels visibility tabs in both track view and mixer view, nested maps, setup Mixer and arrangement configuration, latency compensation with external hardware is one of the great feature that actually work too and that I use daily in the studio. Some DAWs have it too but trust me, its not working properly as like in Cubase. After 2 or 3 of inserted hardware's you get latency problems. I have 4-6 hardware's in the loop all the time like hardware effects, hardware compressors and hardware synths etc. integrated in Cubase 7 and there are no extra latency problems and non stability issues. Cubase 7 take care of external hardware's perfectly, its just sweet! :)

The new instrument track in C7.5 is a right new direction and it work with multi VSTI's too even though you can take it even further and evolve the functionality. Be able to save and use "Quick controls" is one functions I use a lot. Cubase vast support of integrated with hardware controllers like CMC-controllers, AVID Artist series, Yamaha 02R96V2, SSL, NEVE etc. are great and a essential feature that work with Cubase 7 and Nuendo.

The new VST Connect are a another great feature that I use almost daily. I can go on...and on.... what can I say more then...WOW! :D ;)

Cubase 7.5 are a amazing product! :)

I have vast long experience thru the years with DAWs etc.. since the late 80ths. I have worked even with hardware sequencers "back and in the days" and with Cubase on Atari. I have also worked with Pro Tools HD, Logic PRO, SONAR X-series, Digital Performance and Samplitude. I can tell you, I have never been working with a more stable DAW then Cubase 7 x64 and Cubase 7.5 x64.

Thank you Steinberg and all the team and programmers that are behind this Premium product. Cubase 7.5 is the "real deal" and a Premium quality - "World class" product!!!

Merry Christmas to you all! :)

Re: Mac-osx to win7-64 bit migration

HI GUYS ...
after so many usage mac osx I'm thinking of upgrading to Win 7 64 bit.
prices of apple in value performance no longer justifies the cost of a mac ... :?
I ask you of the forum ....
Tips for a daw with cubase 7 on win 7 64 bit.
components, the stability of the system, your impressions ...
Help me
thanks :D

An excellent choice, if you are serious user and want performance, stability, AUDIO, working with a professional DAW as Cubase 7.

* You can choose your own quality components with PC,
* The stability on the PC are much better then MAC OSX.
* Performance like "night and day" compare to MAC-slow...
* Work, Record with "low latency ASIO-audio" ,OSX Core Audio can't even handle a normal buffer setting without drop outs.
* Use 40-75% more plugins on same setup VS on same computer with OSX-MAC...
* You use "Wave files" that load and read twice as fast as AIFF-files,
* You have security, no one can hack and take over your computer and all the files in one second, VS no security, non existed on MAC, open like a book,

* Use latest graphic cards and drivers and work in crystal clear graphic and VIVID colors --> no more MAC dull grey environment that make eyes go bad.

So everything is better on a PC Windows 7 x64 compare to any MAC computer. Windows 8.1 x64 gives you even better performance and stability then Windows 7 x64.

http://www.dawbench.com/images/dawbenchdsp-multi-md5-11-10.jpg
Plugins =38plugins in Cubase on MAC VS 130 plugins in Cubase on PC. In this example 71% more plugins on PC.
Check the number on Pro Tools MAC VS PC and you see even more performance gain on PC like almost 90%

Welcome aboard! ;)

Best Regards
Freddie

Regarding overall audio performance, multimedia, graphic etc. Anything you throw at it Cubase 7 will use it.

Re: Cubase 7.5 MAGNETO II sounds wonderful!

The more I use it, more I get addicted to it.

It work and make miracles on separate tracks too in Cubase 7.5. So not only on the 2BUS.
"Track EQ", "MAGNETO II" and the "Transient Designer" on Channel Strip is one of my favorite plugins in Cubase 7.5.
I often prefer C7-Transient Designer over others like SPL Transient Designer, NI Transient Master, PX-64 Percussion Strip etc...

C7- "Transient Designer sounds really analog and musical like real hardware "Transient Designer".
The new "MAGNETO II" as good as the Premium-TwinTube that cost $2,099.00 hardware, $199 software that I have too.

http://spl.info/fileadmin/user_upload/produkte/analog_elementals/premium_twintube/Premium_TwinTube_web_1500.jpg

http://spl.info/fileadmin/user_upload/produkte/analog_elementals/twintube_twintube/TwinTube_TwinTube_web_1500.jpg

MAGNETO II gives you something else, an unique character and they must have done something special with this new plugin like used VCM technology to model this unit, otherwise I wouldn't like it as much as I do. I'm very fastidious when it comes to plugins and hardware. I only use what sounds best!

So now you know, all you that haven't update to 7.5 yet. Something special and awesome waiting for you in the new arsenals of plugins when you update to new Cubase 7.5.

"MAGNETO II" sounds like 1.000.000 dollar sound for sure. ;) :)

Re: Mac-osx to win7-64 bit migration

PC guys seem obsessed by performance, I mean every time the same story: "best performance for the price", "over clock", etc...

Obsessed by performance? I don't know what you do with your computer but the majority here actually WORK with our computers and Cubase, running many plugins, and projects with more the 8 audio tracks.

So Yes, we need performance.

what you don't get is that many professionals, not only in the audio segment, are maybe less interested in it but they look for a very stable system, where the OS is optimized to run on few selected hardware

If stability are your concern you should definitely be using a PC, Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. Also why narrow few selected mediocre hardware's when you can have them all in quality, without any problems?

Don't you understand the real reason why APPLE have done that? I just wonder how many years it will take before you all get it?

Its because Apple are obsessed to control everything. Also APPLE has never focused their MAC computers to be a computer for professionals. That is why they ended MAC PRO in the first place. I recon the new 2013 edition will be the last one, when it hits the street.

As you perhaps know, its not a computer for any professionals either. 4 USB ports, no second display, no ability to add a hard drive internal, no ability to add a PCI express card, no ability to add a SSD drive, no ability to use high-end graphic cards. Its very clear, that its not made for any serious professional even though if the name still state, "PRO". So perhaps its "PRO" of something else? Perhaps "pro" on cost money?

Apple know already that they can't compete with the professional users/market with Windows and LINUX.
Have you heard anyone say that professional severs like "Google servers" etc..using MAC and OSX? No.

So APPLE and MAC's focus is on home PC market, being simple for anyone to use. There is their big money!
Example like your grandma, your parents, your wife surfing and shopping for cloths on the internet, writing e-mails etc.
Not your kids though, he or she wants performance to play game, freedom to add stuff so he or she wouldn't be interested in any MAC computers.

Ask today, a kid if they want a iPhone or Samsung, Sony Ericson, Android phone? The answer will be Samsung S4 Android phone! If you asked the same question 3 years ago they would probably say: iPhone.
Kids learn fast and gets it fast! ;)

The second reason and the BIG MAJOR real reasons about APPLE, is to "lock you up"; you and everybody else that use MAC so they can continue to over-profit on your behalf, by forcing you buy their overpriced junk in the Mac Store, that no one would buy if they could choose something else.

If you read "the book" and watch all the interviews, documentary with Steve Jobs, he confessed that that was the actually the main Apple strategy and reasons with MAC STORE and why Apple and MAC computers still exist today.

Design and make the products "look cool" and then over charge for it! :!:

http://gizmodo.com/5812622/working-at-the-apple-store-tales-from-the-inside

where you don't care about the firewire chipset compatibility, where you don't need to install drivers for you motherboard, monitor, printer, etc...

? What? Like if you need to do that with DEL , HP, Fujitsu Siemens, ASUS, SONY and SAMSUNG etc. computer?

I'm not trying to start a WAR here. I just give you the opportunity to see all the facts!
If you like MAC, buy it and use it, its fine by me. Hey, it will be plenty of apple support guys helping you out, selling stuff at apple store as long you are willing to continue to pay for it! :P

But you should also know if you "buy" into all this "Apple MAC-hype"-stuff on the Internet, that its THE BEST!
Then you have really become badly fooled.

Merry Christmas! :)

Re: Mac-osx to win7-64 bit migration

Hi!

I haven't had time to read all...

But you all seem to miss the biggest point here regarding performance. I just wonder why all MACs and OSX performance always sucks so BIG TIME?

It doesn't matter that new apple MAC PRO 2013 has 12 core or 24 cores or what ever, it will still run slower and get run over with simple I7 4core machine with Windows. Its a shame, all the component are like a monster machine but APPLE and OSX just don't make it right. You all know that right?

So comparing physical hardware's will not cut it. ;)
But like someone said here already that were a user, "you don't buy MAC for its capacity".

Re: Important info for all Windows 7 and 8 users with Cubase 7!

Thanks Bredo I never knew.

It seems from what Freddie H. has been saying that you can create a power profile, edit it and switch it on or off as necessary, so maybe it's a worthwhile feature.
For a DAW you should definitively make your own power plan (within windows - don't bother the Steinberg one).
Turn off every power saving option for your "DAW Power Plan" (I saved mine as DAW ;-)).
You should also look into turning off Core Parking (turn off C-states and Intel Speed-step in the BIOS).
You want all Cores "up and running" at all times when working with your DAW (green IT is for your company's system administrator ;-))
To turn off Core Parking I'm using a .reg file btw (but you better know what you're doing using this mehod ;-)).

+1 Agree

Here some guidelines / tips that I recently added. Anyone, feel free to check them out. :)

Re: Cubase 7.0.6 suddenly crashing - more than 1 proj't affe

Chris!

Its about your VST3 plugins has gone corrupted in your system. According to the bug files the internal "checksum" doesn't add up make you crash.

*** WARNING: Unable to verify checksum for Cubase Plug-in Set.vst3
*** ERROR: Symbol file could not be found. Defaulted to export symbols for Cubase Plug-in Set.vst3 -

I would recommend you uninstall Cubase 7 and reinstall it again to solve the problems.

Also don't use the x32bit build of Cubase 7 IF you use Windows 7 x64. Use the native x64bit version "the real version" of Cubase 7 x64 instead. There are only benefits with x64bit version. 99.9998 % of all plugins today are in x64bit.

Re: Mac-osx to win7-64 bit migration

I know many going to be angry on me by saing this but actual Papi is 100% right here.

Those that say or state that APPLE and OSX has better performance then Windows are delusional or are the "ones" that spreading false information here.

To be completely honest. As it is today, Apple and MAC comes only with setbacks, no real benefits.
That's why I think we all will see a big turn in very near future, that less music application will continue to support it.

I think soon both Steinberg , AVID Pro Tools, DP, NI and many other manufactories will just drop apple support.
It just takes time and away valuable resources for the programmers trying to add OSX support for it with clearly no great impact or any kind of benefits.

That's the real raw truth, even if you like or not! :|

Please drop the x32bit versions of all your new softwares.

Please drop the x32bit versions of all your new softwares.

All programmers can concentrate on making x64bit softwares only.
If you think about it "why they should end it", its not a bad idea! We have no need of any x32bit softwares anymore. ;)

You would get = less bugs + more time for the programmers apply new features instead of address backward and x32bit compatibility.

Re: 7.5 Bug: VST performance peak?

Ok point taken. Good that you're sharp today! ;-)

I just try to help! ;)

By the way.. Next wrong TWEAK I can hint you about.

"Program scheduler" shall be set to ------> PROGRAM on Windows 7 and Windows 8.
Not "Background Task" like on XP32. ASIO driver is not a "background task".

I can tell you the story about why and so forth just take my word for it. Have it set to wrong setting, "Background Task" on Win 7 and Win 8 will cause problems and will make drop outs on Audio too.

Re: 7.5 Bug: VST performance peak?

@Freddie: Can you tell me how I can get there to change this setting please? So I can try this.

And overall: There is a lot of talk about mouse movements related to performance respons, but I started the thread while I had difficulties using vsti´s (like Omnisphere) with a midicontroller, no mouse. I´m not saying there´s no relationship, but I feel the thread is going into another direction now. Correct me if I´m wrong.

Here you go!

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/24129-processor-scheduling-adjust-performance-windows.html

Processor scheduling on Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 manage processor resources for the best performance.
It shall be on "Programs" because ASIO-driver is not background services on these systems.

ASIO-driver on XP32 is another story. The "Processor scheduling" should be set to "Background services" ON XP32 ONLY instead. But that is only on XP32 only.
It were RME Mattias Carstens @ RME that found this tweak on XP32. It was meant to solve driver issue with specific RME cards in 90ths with XP32.

If you ask Mattias he also will say exactly as I do on Windows 7 and Windows 8. It shall be set to "Programs" because ASIO-drivers is not background services on these new systems.

Still people keep doing all these old XP tweaks on their new systems with out having any clue "why" or "what" they continue to do so? Then they come to all kinds of FORUMS, moan that every s-ucks...and I don't know what... PC and Cubase sucks too. It actually comes down to that they have actually f-u-cked up the system them self with all XP tweaks that they shouldn't had done in the first place.

Anyway, I hope now that at least some of you use the correct information I gave you.
If you do everything will work better! ;)

Re: C7.5.1 64bit - is this a joke? - from a new user

So far, I've loaded C7.5 up a few times, have saved 3 test projects and had to force close C7.5 through task manager in W7 x64 almost every time I load the program due to the way it freezes without any warning.

In trying to use my 32bit plugins in Bitbridge (which is meant to be able to run these things), a frighteningly large number of plugins fail to load, crash C7.5 or appear with a GUI window that has no GUI. It is worth noting that the 64bit version of Sonar X3 runs all these plugins without any problem. Some examples of plugins that work in Sonar but don't work in Cubase:

Algorithmix Blue
Cakewalk Z3ta+
Steinberg Hypersonic
Inspector XL
Nomad Factory - some of them fail to load
Spectrasonics Atmosphere and Stylus
UAD-2 (Studer 800 so far- loaded but C7.5 froze when I clicked on a button)

I haven't finished testing all of them yet but some very important plugins in that list I cannot use in C7.

Did you try a Clean up & Defrag after installing the New versions of Cubase etc? The plug manufacturers should all have 64 bit versions of the plugins by now. They should at least have a support number or page where you could suggest they update.
Things are moving on. 64 bit has been out a while now . Likely if any plugin makers have not bothered to go 64 bit they're also dodgy on modern 32 bit Win 74/ 8 as well. What does Cubase behave like if you unload all the 3rd party suspects?

OP state that it doesn't' work with Cubase 7.5 x64. Its just obsolete and wrong information about all this plugins.
The truth is that the majority of all these plugins that he say doesn't work, work perfectly well with both Cubase 7.0.7 x64 and Cubase 7.5.10 x64, SONAR x64 editions of 8.5, X1, X2 and X3.

The plugins are available in X64bit for download for all legit buyers.

I have all NOMAD FACTORY plugins and they all work and are in full x64bit.
I have all Spectrasonics softwares all are in x64bit and all work without any issues in Cubase x64 and SONAR x64.
Stylus RMX are also in x64bit years ago work without any issues. Its also available as a "free" x64bit update for all legit buyers.
Atmosphere are updated years ago to Omnisphere that are in full x64bit too. Omnisphere are a much better virtual instrument then Atmosphere was.

UAD 2 are also in x64bit and are also official tested by UAD to work with latest Cubase versions.
Cakewalk Z3ta+ has been update to Z3TA+ 2 and are in full x64bit too. I have it and use it in Cubase 7.5.
I have all Cakewalks softwares all work in Cubase 7.5 x64 and all are in x64bit too.
I have Jbridge too work perfect with Cubase 7.5 x64
Native Instrument work too with Cubase x64. All included Kontakt 5 are all are in x64bit so you were saying?

Of course if you never update your plugins it will not work. Some x64 update are even free, "no charge" like Nomad Factory and Stylus RMX. So please don't say that you have not the founds to pay the small "fee" to update some of these plugins to x64 later versions. Obviously you do because you just bought Cubase 7.5 and have UAD2 that cost 10x times more then update these softwares to latest version of these plugins. Jbridge coast a fraction.

Now we have set the information straight. Now you all can continue the "rants and moans" about how Cubase 7.5 x64 sucks.

Re: [Features] Important new feature suggestions on CMC-Series!

+1 MUST FIX THE FOCUS ISSUE
+1 Shift Lock ... come on, we've asked for this from the very first day
+1 Fix/update AI functionality. As has already been established, I can't think of a use for the AI

In addition to yours

QC ... quick control banks
QC --- plugin memory .. if plugin x is focused .. these are the QC
QC --- Need to be able to select EQ Type from QC
PD --- Allow for Function mode on every preset (toggle all presets between note and Function mode)
PD --- Action mode for pads ... tie to hotkeys on VSTi for reverse, slow, stutter etc...
CH --- improved interpretation and management of read/write mode (currently doesn't synch properly with global settings)
CH --- Need to be able to rotate through, open/close plugins on the channel (then of course, have the saved QC set for that plugin available on the QC)
FD -- QC mode

+1

Thanks, I like all your suggestions too. :)

Especially:
* QC --- plugin memory .. if plugin x is focused .. these are the QC
* QC --- Need to be able to select EQ Type from QC
* FD -- QC mode

Re: [Features] Important new feature suggestions on CMC-Seri

Can anyone shed any light on the fact these controllers have been discontinued?

As far as I know Steinberg are not phasing out these CMC controllers. Its actually the opposite! :)
In due to its popularity, some of the controls example the TP-controller has run out of stock temporarily in Europe.
The new shipment are due to arrive on 31.03.2014.

Re: Channel Strip/EQ location question clarification?

any help would be appreciated on this one :)

I am a bit confused on the precise location of the Channel Strip/EQ in terms of an audio channel

One page 229 of the manual, the EQ is located after Insert 6 and just before the fader. No problem.

The same EQ, according to the channel strip, in the Mix Console, defaults to just after the Gate and Comp effects and just before the Trans Sat and Limit Effects. No problem.

But if I move the Channel Strip to be Pre Insert instead of the default Post Insert, does the EQ Position go with it and become Pre Insert also? Or can I leave the EQ located after Insert 6 as is the default in the layout?

Thanks!

:ugeek:

Yes I assume that the EQ and the "Channel Strip" will "PRE" the insert in that case.

You can always make simple test to figure that out. ;)
Add audio analyzer at "insert slot-1" and make a "PEAK" EQ boost-setting on one of the EQ-bands.
Now, see if you can see the EQ peak in the analyzer.

Extremely Happy with Cubase 7.5!!! PC Windows 7 x64 of course!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

BEST UPDATE EVER!!! :D

Worked like a charm. I ordered the BOX version and let me tell you.. Everything all settings, preference, key commands, ICONS, Color settings etc. went copied from 7.0.6 automatically.

I couldn't been happier. And all talk about loading times? Never notice anything strange. Works perfect over here fast as usually. Load time of Cubase 7.5 seem even faster then 7.0.6? It takes about 10-15 sec.
I even loaded a old 7.0.6 project. Much faster load time then before or the same, about 20 sec. Medium size project about 4.8 GB RAM Kontakt 5, Omnisphere, Audio etc..178 tracks..Less CPU in use too on same project.

Freddie, what about the mixer? Is it even usable at a basic level?

I love the new mixer in Cubase 7.0.6 and in Cubase 7.5 they have taken it even further.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gk4OURLV0Vo&list=UUAv0mI6kHe7uqohgOiS2lQg

Tip of the Day
I use the "MIXIER 2" or "MIXER 3" as my main mixer. ;) That solve the most problems you will ever encounter regarding Mixer problems /bugs. I don't know why "MIXER 1" "F3" has all the issues or had the most of all issues when the rest of mixers worked fine? To work around it, use MIXER 2 or MIXER 3= no issues.

No idea? I just know that it solved the problems "back in the day" in Cubase 7.0.2 etc.. ;)

Re: If you like the 7.5 update...+1 this and reply

Does mixer 1 work as expected or not?
That would be a big NO ...
it still doesn't save properly with workspaces (zoom + config)
it still has to have focus to use many mixconsole keycommands
it still loses focus if you use functions of the mixconsole itself
Mute/Mono/Solo don't activate/deactivate all the time
QLink doesn't work properly when soloing/muting... (probably associated somehow with the direct mute/solo bug)
it still doesn't keep z-Order correct for plugins
it still corrupts randomly requiring a "reset" that requires you to reset everything
Mixer configurations corrupt randomly on recall
Mixer presets do really odd things to the mixconsole when loading (zoom, visibility)
and more ...

in other words ... NO

Its not issue. Its how the functionality are made and programed.
I get it now why it is that way. There are a good reason why Steinberg implemented it that way if you haven't notice that yet in Cubase 7.5. ;)

By the way.. when I'm on the mixer-page on my second monitor I never lost connection to it as you describe?
I use pre programed hardware "softkeys" too to control the mixer functions and all work with no issues.

Many of the issues you describe and experience ,I'm afraid I don't have them on my setup..
link channels etc work etc.. Sometimes I use key command for that too.. ;)

Multi monitor environment here too= no problems.

organize the plugins? = Use in "preference" organize as "Vendors". and the new "search function" in the plugin window couldn't be easier. I use it every day.
Example want "Waves CLA plugins". Write "CL" in the search field ------> ..and "BOOM "CLA-Compressors comes up automatically.
Write---> Me.... and "Melodyne" comes up... How hard can it be?

Work with it.. not against it! ;)

No, in the first clip, the top of the dialog is off the screen and you can't get to it. There is no way to size the window to get to anything at the top edge. It's a screen size detecting bug.
in the 2nd, you can't have the plugins remain over the mixconsole if it has focus.

Okay.. I'm not experience this here so I'm not aware of it. Using NVIDIA. I get more now what your problems is. ;)

First off. But if you move a example a plugin or a "window" out from the from the screen "edge" it disappears.
That´s default how both Windows or OSX works.

Secondly.
Have you tried activate the meter sections "control room" and have that activated on "right" view always.
If you do, I think that will prevent this from happening. :)

No, this isn't how either OS works. I can do videos of z-order working correctly in Reaper, Sonar, FL, Samplitube and hell even Tracktion.

Just press on the "mono symbol-icon" on the track and it change from mono to stereo on a fly. (also work from Stereo to mono) That would be great especially working with audio tracks.

How many time have you needed to add a second new "Stereo Audio-track" to be able to run thru the "mono audio" thru a stereo plugin? ;)

That only changes the color of the track in the project window. We are asking for the same function in the MIXER!

Colored fader knobs are so distracting….

+1 Yes I agree but I like the color on the faders though in the Mixer-section on "FXs-Send ", "Group Tracks ", "Rewire ", "Input" and "MASTER ". " Audio" and "VST Tracks " can have the same color.

Also especially on "Midi"-tracks in the Mixer-page section so I can disable all of them so I can't see them in the mixer section. I never ever want or need to see any "midi tracks" like midi volume-midi pan in the Mixer-page section.

Only Input , Audio, VST-Instrument -tracks, Group-tracks , FXs-tracks , Rewire and MASTER tracks.

None extra! :) ;)

Its because you need to buy it yourself as extra plugin , it doesn't come included with Cubase as a included plugin.
But if you have bought it you can use it in intergraded mode in Cubase/ Nuendo. Same integration goes with the other plugins from Steinberg / Yamaha example NEVE Compressor. You can of course incorporate other manufactories too into Cubase/Nuendo.

You can find this feature and functionality already in Cakewalk SONAR X-series with example SoftTube-plugins.

Locking track height on individual tracks!

Locking track height on individual tracks its not possible in Cubase. I often by mistake resize tracks especially the MARKER TRACK while navigating in the project window.
A new feature that lock the track height and zoom individual would be gold.

I use devided tracklist function in Cubase and having the MARKER TRACK as the first top track in the devided section.
Trying to drag the devided TRACK-Line ruler often ends up mistakenly select and resize the MARKER TRACK instead.

Lock function would be great for other tracks and purposes too.
Thanks in advance for the BEST DAW on the market!

Steinberg, UPDATE their GUI-Window Management ability ASAP!

Steinberg need to UPDATE their GUI-Window Management ability ASAP!

GUI-Window Management ability has been put on hold for many years now. Many of all the included functions in their softwares has not been updated to 2014/2015 standard. Its need to be overlooked and update ASAP.

What I'm talking about is simple tasks like any window or VST3 part plugins should always be able to "stay on top"-floating on other windows in Cubase/Nuendo. I suggest Steinberg follow Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 standard GUI-interface instead of continue build on their own GUI interface for windows managements.

I like the Cubase-GUI itself and that is all fine what I don't like is that they made own ("look like windows normal") "close" "minimize" symbols on example VSTs. I don't really understand why they continue to build own GUI for simple things that already exist in windows?

We have a AERO on Windows and Coco on OSX so why try to invent the wheel twice? If they just make so they follow the "standard" the graphical interface bugs in Cubase would lead to a minimum.

Another great idea would be to implemented INTEL AVX Technology in Cubase/Nuendo core. Let face it we all would benefit from that, include Steinberg!
https://software.intel.com/en-us/intel-isa-extensions

Please check SONAR X-series and Skylight GUI Interface to get an idea what I'm talking about...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSHCIRbMEV0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErxCH5naiw0

Example of bad GUI behaviors that are found during working with Cubase/Nuendo today!

*Plugins fall behind mixer-page, don't "stay on top"?

* Windows can´t "stay on top-floating"?

* Open editors like "Fader curves" restore down the arrangement window in the background?

* Pool window can't float on top of other views at all?

* Many editors and functions "GUI window" inside Cubase can't float on top the arrangement window, "stay on top"? Only full screen view?

* Not always remember specific window "last" -placed-position?

* Placing a VST plugin like KONTAKT, Omnisphere or other 3part VST on example 2:e or 3:e monitor, "mouse"-clicking on Window Desktop background will lead to both Cubase "interface" + all the open VST-plugins total disappears from all displays?

*and more..

I hope Steinberg do listen because I think there are more users then just me that want this change in my direction.
Otherwise I love Cubase and what are most important the stability are awesome! I'm really amazed how great Cubase 7 and 7.5 series sounds and work.

I hope my suggestion will make Cubase even better. :)

Re: Cubase 7.5 and Komplete 9 Ultimate

K9U and Cubase 7.53 x64 never had a problem.

Same here I had zero problem with NI Komplete and Cubase 7.5.30. :)
http://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/bundles/komplete-10-ultimate/

All my projects basically always start with Kontakt 5 with own build sample-libraries and other 3 part commercial sample libraries. I use also frequently Transient Master, Massive, Absynth, Reaktor, FM8 and Guitar Rig 5. Zero issues.

By the way when we at it. All Spectrasonics plugins like Omnisphere, Trilian and Stylus RMX are extremely stable too.
Has never crashed once...ever.. and I have been using them every day in all kinds of productions for years.

Docking the MARKER-TRACK to the top timeline section!

Docking the MARKER-TRACK to the top timeline section!

Having in top of the project and see it always when ever you scroll and navigate in project are how the most users want to use it as.

Be able to DOCK it up in time-line would be great functionality instead of using it with devided tracklist and the MARKER-TRACK as a normal track in the project.

Please add it as an option to be able to dock it in the timeline so the people that still want to use it as normal track can continue to do so.

Thanks in advance!

Re: 13in MBP Core i5, 8 ram runs better in cubase 32bit then

thank you! well i have monitored the machine and the bridge does not take all that much of the CPU or ram by it self! maybe each instance of each 32 bit plugin creates more Hunger instance when using the bridge and counting to cubase Hunger ? :) i will test with just 64 bit plugins and see the results.

Great!
Looking forward to hear how everything turned out. :)

Friendly Warning! Waves-"V9r20"-WLC V9.3.0.14.

Hi!

A new version of WAVES installer "V9r20" is out now that also update the WLC- Waves License Center to V9.3.0.14.
I updated last night and that were a really bad move. You might facing a big "sh*t storm" in front of you if you just update!! :(
After I update with Waves installer "V9r20" the Waves WLC didn't recognized my computer ID anymore and has change my computer ID to a complete new untitled ID name? I check the Internet and there are more then me that have the same problems!

I email the Waves-support service and got very friendly and nice message back how to proceed. I'm very experience with computers and systems and tried to disable all kinds of things to get going. After a while during trying I had disabled so much I couldn't even close down my computer "normal" still Waves WLC couldn't recognized my computer old ID?
End of day it didn't work and I needed to use my last resort "Waves recovery license"-program to get going. Just so you all know you can only use this solution once per year.

Waves support recommend me in the future to use USB key instead because the computer ID can change anytime. They can't guarantee that it won't. This can especially happen if you add another new hardware to your setup. I haven't change my setup or add any new hardware lately, still I got this major problems.

So if you use "computer-recognize"- based waves-license as I did, always be safe and add all your license to the "License-Wave-Cloud" ALWAYS before you update, add or do anything with waves installers in the future! And to be safe, use a USB-Key for all your licenses that can't randomly change the ID.

Other then that all Waves plugins that I use work in Cubase 7.5 without any problems, CLA-bundle, Reel ADT etc... :)

Re: [Poll] Would you like to see true Bounce-In-Place in Cub

Yes! Cubase needs a true Bounce-In-Place function built in = 91%

No brainer! ;)

Re: Daylight saving changed = Cubase plugin rescan [again]

Hi all!

First off, I don't care if it re-scan or not. Its all fine by me. :)

What I´m more concern about is to read how long it takes for some of you starting Cubase?
Sure it takes longer or let me say longest to launch Cubase compare to other programs I have in my computer.
For example Cakewalk SONAR X2 takes like less then one second. But still if it woks better for Cubase and make it more stable taking longer time during initial launching I don't see the big problem here?

I have both hardware control systems and fairly plenty of 3part commercial plugins installed in my computer example: NI Komplete, all Spectrasonics, all Cakewalk softwares, all Nomad Factory, BBE, Waves, SPL, Brainworx, elysian, Vengeance, Melodyne etc. Still I'm choked to hear the timeframe's some of you users referring to here.

I don't know what kind of softwares you all use, so I can only speak for myself. To start, I don't use any 32bit plugins or any kind of freeware's from non commercial major manufactories. The only 32bit plugin that I do have installed in my computer is Steinberg Virtual Guitarist 2 and I use that sometimes together with Jbridge.

I don´t use any kind of cracked plugins or softwares in my setup. All are 100% legit softwares even the extra non music softwares!

So I timed it, a normal day in the studio. Let see how long it actually take to launch Cubase?

1. First ever launch of Cubase 7.5 after rebooting the computer. = 25sec

2. Second launch of Cubase 7.5= 16sec

3. I have not timed the actual daylight-rescan of all my plugins, but I remember how long it took. I would guess= maximum of 1min or so. I'm pretty sure it took even less then that perhaps 45 sec.

So why does it take so long time for some of you users? I mean like extreme as +5min up 10-20min? :o
I know computers and systems and to me 10min even sounds extreme if your use a older computer. It should never ever take like 10min to rescan your plugins unless you are using + 5000 to +10.000-+20.000 plugins in your DAW setup. So something must be seriously wrong here in your setup if it take that long?

And still if you do have installed +10.000 plugins in your setup you should ask yourself do I actually need them? Do I really use all the 10.000 plugins? Think about it! ;)
