"Waiting for video service" error

Postby promain » Mon Jul 22, 2013 9:37 pm

Hi there,

Just wanted to warn Cubase team that "waiting for video service" error still happens
with 7.0.5 despite supposedly being fixed in the last update...

Very annoying bug which I had not with Cubase 6.

Mac OSX , mountain lion. Digidesign MBOX2 as audio card.
Mac mini quad core 2 ghz I7 as processor.

Please fix .

I don't wanna hijack this but I've noticed a 'video' issue since C7. Perhaps related.

I -rarely- use video with Cubase. But what I've noticed since C7 is that if I leave Cubase open and my PC goes to sleep, eventually (might take a day or two even) Cubase will lock up. If that happens TaskMgr usually won't respond, but if it -does- I can see that it's the Video service that is holding up -everything- in Cubase. The only way out is to log off as the current user or reboot.

The really odd thing is that I can still launch other programs with no problem. But again, TaskMgr and Cubase are a no go.

In short: something in Cubase has locked the Video service and that, in turn, locks up Cubase.

I used to get that pop up until I removed the videoengine.bundle from its folder.

I don't use video so that was not a concern of mine. I haven't received a pop up since.

Cheers,

I get the Waiting for Video Error almost every time I open Cubase 7.0.5 (OSX 10.8.4) - no matter if I'm working on a project with video or not. Also the replace audio in video-function doesn't work here.

The video part is a really important function for me, so I hope they fix it soon.

Maybe this is similar to the "video engine stopped working" error on windows? That one is caused by an incomplete installation of Quicktime. The "Quicktime", "Apple Software Update" and "Apple Application Support" apps all have to be installed.

Hello everyone.

Development is looking into this and searching for a solution.
Remote sessions with a couple users pointed to a video component, but we need to find the cause of the conflict in order to solve it - although we found this mainly on Windows systems, those who are affected on both platforms are invited to PM me or contact Support via MySteinberg with information, crash dumps, screen-shots, system info and detailed steps.

Please, make sure that you have QuickTime installed, that it is up-to-date and complete with all its software components, so that we have a complete and consistent scenario and can more efficiently look into this.

Thank you in advance for your collaboration.

Kind regards,

This actually has been a problem since Cubase 6, except back in v6, it totally just locked up Cubase and you had to force quit. Only happens when closing a project, and happens frequently enough to be a nuisance. At least now Cubase 7 presents you with a dialog and you can click "abort" which seems to work and avoids hanging. Still though, how tough is this video service bug that it's been three versions of Cubase and they still can't fix it?!

This may affect MediaBay scanning, video import and playback

I keep getting this when closing a project, even though I've updated to Nuendo 6.06.

I have the "Video service not responsive" problem, too. I'm on Cubase 7.5, Mac version.

The Nuendo 6.07 update didn't fix it. This is very frustrating because I'm always going between projects. It doesn't look good when I have to tell my client to wait because I have to reboot.

Still having this problem frequently on Mavericks 10.9.2, Cubase 7.5.10. On multiple different Macs with different hardware. So this is a Cubase issue no doubt.

For those of you who use video this won't help but if you don't do video try this.... it works for me.

Remove the videoengine.bundle from its folder.

I never get the "waiting for video" pop up issues anymore.

But the video engine is used for more than just video - like MediaBay indexing. I would try this but I'm wary of it possibly undermining stuff under the hood.
