Spectrum in Studio EQ Plugin/Effect

I arrange and mix with Ableton and have the spectrum analyzer on to see the peaks, naturally. Anything over 0 would obviously sound like someone blowing raspberries with their mouth. Then I move on to WAVELAB for finalising the wav file.

But,…when I use the WAVELAB 8 Elements Studio EQ Effect with the spectrum function on…the levels are way over 0db according to the -30db to +30db scale on the left hand side.

Has the scale been overlooked during the software building? Is it purely a rough guide? If the Master volume reports limiting at 0db why then does the Spectrum in Studio EQ report otherwise? There is no difference PRE or POST master. :exclamation:

Can someone explain this? Because I’m scratching my head.
