Have you tried the "increase audio buffer" technique discussed in an earlier thread (don't have time right now to search for it)?
Putting it up to the highest range makes my UAD stuff no longer the bottleneck, as a rule.
Rotund... are you increasing the buffer all the way? I have no idea what impact processor makes on the rendering time-- but the buffer thing has a huge effect over here. Did on my old, much slower G5 as well.

I'm guessing it's because you're working with a pretty high buffer to begin with. Don't know if the benefits are consistent after a certain point.

For me, and for some others (I THINK Lydiot quantified this, among others), render times can be slashed. Really reduced.
On my current project, where I'm doing a bunch of pre-processing on long (30-60 minute files), an instance of LA2A can be reduced from eight or nine minutes (working at 512, to accommodate the Satellite) to about two.
My biggest bottleneck under these circumstances is iZotope's DeCrackler, a native plugin, which takes at least four times longer than any of the UADs. But then again, that's comparing apples and oranges...
Give it a try.
