Does Sequel support MIDI pass through?

Postby gmacaskill » Tue Apr 29, 2014 3:33 pm

I have a Casio WK-6500 and would like to have Sequel recognize the exact sounds that I am outputting. I'm currently on Sequel LE but considering upgrade to full Sequel 3. If that does that trick I will go ahead. Sequel LE responds properly to the keyboard and recognizes keys pressed and timing just fine. Its just getting the channel sounds that the keyboard outputs to be recognized in Sequel that's the issue. Will upgrading do what I need?
Thanks for anyone who can help.

Sequel does not include the feature to send a MIDI track to a physical output to trigger an external sound module. You would have to connect the keyboard and record the audio live as you recorded MIDI. I would suggest checking out Cubase Elements 7, Cubase Artist 7.5, or Cubase 7.5 for recording with an external sound module.

So as I understand it with MIDI the computer software has to include all the library of sounds to replicate the instrument. And Sequel doesn't include those but Cubase does. Is that correct? I thought it would be good to just upgrade Sequel as the learning curve isn't as steep as with Cubase. If I can get half decent library in Sequel I'd just as soon use it because it's a $50 upgrade versus a few hundred for Cubase. My only other option is using the line out from my Casio which would also accomplish the same thing? Forgot to mention I'm using a Steinberg CI1 too.
Thanks for the help.

Sequel does include a large library of Instruments that can be triggered by MIDI. But it does not have the ability to send MIDI back out to an external sound module. So if you want to use the sounds from your keyboard, I'd recommend Cubase.

I'd suggest checking out the trial versions of Sequel: http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/se ... rsion.html

And Cubase Elements 7: http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/cubase/trial.html

The Cubase 7.5 trial would require an eLicenser USB key. I hope this information helps.
