updating from 5.5.4 to 5.5.6 - do I need NEK 5.5.5 update?

Simple enough question, right? But no one has EVER BEEN ABLE TO ANSWER IT!!! You can find my posts on the subject on the update thread.

To recap: I was on 5.5.4, updated the main installer to 5.5.6, and then tried to update the 5.5.5 NEK and it wouldn’t install telling me it was already installed. So if 5.5.6 installs the updated bits in NEK 5.5.5:

WHY THE HECK DOES THE 5.5.5 NEK UPDATE EXIST AT ALL IF IT ISN’T NECESSARY??!?

My system seems stable enough so I haven’t bothered inquiring any further. Yet, the 5.5.5 NEK update is still posted alongside the 5.5.6 update on steinberg.net. So this is what I suggest you do:

  • Install the 5.5.5 update installer (I think you’ll have to get that from the FTP site now).
  • Install the 5.5.5 NEK update
  • And THEN install the 5.5.6 update.

That way you’re sure you’ve got your bases covered. For me to do that now, I believe I’d have to reinstall starting at 5.5.0. I just wish there was an official statement on this by Steinberg. I think I’ll repost in the official thread again…
