Problem solved! 
I have bought a new audio-interface and now everything is working perfectly. In fact, my old Mackie-interface suddenly started to work for a couple of ours, and then likewise suddenly the audio failed again 
. After that I gave up and decided to to what I should have done a long time ago; I bought a new interface.
