The known issues document said the were problems with unwanted lines being printed in 7.0, and this was stated to have been fixed in 7.0.1.
I never installed 7.0. Did that version print wrongly? (to pdf, and to physical printer)
In fact it wasn't "unwanted lines", but the scaling (i.e. "thickness") of thin
lines was all wrong.. e.g. the lines of the staves were very black, and other anomalies that were definitely not
"WYSIWYG".. very ugly looking. And (for me at least), printing to pdf gave the same result, especially when eventually printing out the pdf.
In 7.0.1, it does look like, as you have suggested yourself, that printing is now an image file.
I am remembering back to old discussions, about the lack of printing at all
in Cubase 6.x Mac in 64-bit mode, and I think it was something to do with the Mac's use of the Carbon dsk (which didn't work in 64-bit). I am guessing that Cubase 7 is now totally Carbon-free, but that there is some reason why the replacement "Cocoa" dsk doesn't handle Cubase's printing very well.
I'd be very interested to see how the latest versions of Logic/Sibelius etc. handle this on Mac
