Does Cubasis convert an MP3 or M4A file to WAV when importing?
Or can I use the compressed files as is in the multitrack?

Hello,
no, files that are in the arranger are always waves.
Cubasis converts a file to wave when it is imported into a project from the MediaBay. As long as the file is in the MediaBay it retains its format.
