Ram Question

I’m shopping to upgrade my PC and I’m wondering what does it mean in the motherboard ram specification when it says (OC) next to the ram? For example (from newegg):

4×240pin DDR3 2200(O.C.)/2133(O.C.)/2000(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1600/1333/1066

My assumption is that the oc is “overclock” but what does that mean?

I think its telling you that although the RAM will not automatically run at that speed, as the motherboard will set the speed. That it is supported when overclocked manually. (or something like that!)

If I purchased ram like ddr3 1600 will that keep me from overclocking the CPU?
