Mac Pro Video Card upgrade

Currently I have an Early 2008 Mac Pro (MacPro3,1) with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB graphics card.

I notice that even with 12GB of RAM, my meters are slow in all version of Cubase 7. I’m pretty sure I had this problem in version 6 as well. I can also note that the GUI becomes less responsive as I add more tracks to my projects.

So my question is, if I upgrade my Mac Pro’s graphics card to an ATI Radeon HD 5770 or 5870, will Cubase respond better graphically?

highly unlikely its more the age of the system most likely
however if using Waves, nebula and a few other than like to have a very good open GL card… (NVidia preferred)

Aloha guys and +1.

I am currently ‘(curt)eyeing’ that new MacPro I saw at the keynote.

Nice!!! And I want it now!

Because when you think about it, even ‘that beast’ will one day
start to run slower and will eventually also become a door stop.

That’s why we want it now!

Good Luck S.

Also, Snow Leopard performed way better than Mountain Lion in my opinion. I’m running a dedicated system for music production. This system shouldn’t be slowing down unless newer Cubase versions are becoming more resource hungry.
