7.06 and Virus TI crash

Postby GO56 » Mon Sep 30, 2013 3:26 am

The Virus control plug in will crash Cubase 7.06 when instantiated. 7.05 was fine. Anyone else out there with the same problem?

Thanks for that Charlemagne. Should have mentioned this is a Windows 7 64bit system that is at issue. First time I have had trouble with the Snow and Cubase. I have contacted Access support. We'll see...

Yes ,it does.I contacted Access support but they didn't give me a solution other than to roll back to 7.05 which i had already done. They answered that since the crash happens only in 7.06 it must be something that Cubase changed and caused it.

This was my report: " i get crashes since updating to Cubase 7.06 64bit,using Windows 7 64bit.I have Virus ti Polar running the latest official release(not beta). The error comes from VirusUpdater_x64.dll.Strangely when the virus plugin is inserted as the 1st instrument in the VST Instruments rack Cubase does not crash. When i load Virus after some other instrument plugins it crashes Cubase and i have to close the program.I rolled back to Cubase 7.05 to avoid the crashes for now. This is the info from the Windows Event Log: Faulting application name: Cubase7.exe, version: 7.0.6.2230, time stamp: 0x5228b189 Faulting module name: VirusUpdater_x64.dll, version: 5.0.2.1, time stamp: 0x50c76677 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x000000000000b4ac Faulting process id: 0xa88 Faulting application start time: 0x01ceb490b2dd677e Faulting application path: C:\\Program Files\\Steinberg\\Cubase 7\\Cubase7.exe Faulting module path: C:\\Windows\\system32\\VirusUpdater_x64.dll

I must add that I got the crashes when I was trying to load projects already created by a previous Cubase version and not starting from scratch in a new project.

I don't know if we can have an answer from Steinberg...

Thanks for sharing that information S4410. I prefer to use 7.06 because of the mixer improvements but lost some functionality due to the Virus issue. But you are right...it works fine in the first instrument rack slot and also when instantiated within an instrument track. So there are workarounds. Looking forward to a proper resolution of the issue though.

Just tried the Virus TI (Desktop) software v5.0.4.02 together with Cubase v7.06 32-bit on Windows 7 64-bit.

- I could start a new project and load the Virus TI into Slot 2 of the Instrument Rack and add all 3 outputs and I could play back on all 3 outputs aswell.
- I also tried opening an older project which had the Virus in Slot 3 of the Instrument Rack and it worked, I could play back and open the GUI etc.

It seems to run fine here, thanks for the heads up though.

Having the same problem since 7.06. but Win 8 64-bit.
What I see also an DZ77 - Intel-Desktop Board is used on your side, I am also using that - maybe thats the problem because Intel Boards have really bad bioses at the moment and much instabilty is caused by that boards!!
Btw. my old comp also with win 8, I don't have that problem with C7.06 and Virus.

Still,it's strange that it was not happening with previous versions. But you are right, this Intel board is not trusted...
I wonder what board GO56 has...

FTR, something similar happened to me w/7.05.

I re-installed the update along w/ the software that was giving me issues.. Has been working fine since.

I suggest you try that if you want to continue to troubleshoot.
Uninstall both, Install C7 then Ti.

Also, Guys, post your specs if you want to deduce the problems..just coming in here complaining isn't going to get it done.

BTW, I am on VirusTi OS 5.0.3.0 . I did not install 5.0.4.02 Because the last time I looked at it, it was a BETA (It may not be now) and the last time I installed a BETA w/Access all hell broke loose! There was nothing in the change log that was so imperative to install it.
Access Change Log wrote:About TIOS 5.0.4
Resolved issues, refinements and new features:
• VC: Limited parameter automation in Ableton Live when using Audio Unit plug-in (fixed)
• Revised documentation (updated Reference Manual, updated Sequencer Guides)
Known issues:
• Side chaining into audio instruments is currently not supported in Steinberg Cubase. This
issue needs to be addressed by Steinberg.
• Ableton Live still changes MIDI timing of tracks recorded with Virus Control instantiated.
This issue needs to be addressed by Ableton.

Let's just do some research and answer a couple of questions:

Is you virus to working correctly?

What windows version are you running?

What virus driver do you have installed?

These answers will help us begin to find out what's up. I will try mine later this week and report back.

Re: 7.06 and Virus TI crash

Postby S4410 » Wed Oct 02, 2013 5:51 pm

Some months ago there was another similar discussion between an Ableton and a Reaper user in another forum
which also came to the conclusion that VirusUpdater_x64.dll was the reason of their crashes and the solution was to
put the Virus plug-in first in order.

http://www.infekted.org/virus/showthread.php?t=33597

So it might not be only a Cubase problem.
I contacted Access support 2-3 times.I advice anyone having the same problem to report it
because they claim that they can't reproduce it and it doesn't affect everyone(which is true)...

I reinstalled C7 64 and updated to 7.06
reinstalled Virus 5.04 driver x64.

My system is W7 64, intel 3930k, 16Gb ram, RME fireface 800, MB P9X79, UAD octo.

I repeat I can't work with projects working fine in 7.05. On the other side I had to upgrade because of the UAD.

If I were you, I would have 5.0.3.0 installed, as I mentioned before, 5.04 was a beta release and IMO I wouldn't rely on that being a stable release!

Hi G056
i was wondering if you could try something that i thought since you have 7.06 installed-i have 7.05 now.
We agree that cubase crashes when virus is not first in the instruments rack.We can't change the order of the plugins in this rack. But we can change it from the arrange window in the instruments folder...So,If you change the position of the plugin (make it 1st) in the arrange window, does it make any difference?
thanks

Yes it does make a difference. I meant to say that in the previous post. If the virus is the first instrument in the rack in 7.06 it is stable and does not crash. But if you have older projects that have the plugin in another rack slot, the project will not load and gives the virusupdater crash message. Hope this helps.

Thanks for answering G056.However i was asking something different that you can try in a new project:Put the virus plugin 3rd in the instrument rack but change its position in the arrangement window to 1st (in the instruments folder) .Then save and load the new project.Does it crash?
I post an example here to see..
Thanks for helping!!

I tried what you suggested S4410 but the project will crash when the new project is loaded in 7.06 after following your instructions as shown in the png. It seems that for the time being, the plugin must be in the first rack position. At least on my system. Thanks for the input!
