Cubase Artist 6/7 Comparison (help?)

Then there should not be a problem…

Thanks guys,

That’s all really helpful indeed.

I purchased Artist 7 today (along with some other things) and so it should arrive in the post by end of next week.

If I get stuck with anything then I know where to come !! :nerd:

Paul

Good luck with your batch of new acquisitions, been on a spending spree I believe

Thanks Strophoid,

Yes, quite !! Especially with the MINIMOOG Model D i treated myself to last week !! i have wanted one for 25 x years.

Paul

i will be in receipt of my purchased Cubase Artist 7 this weekend.

Does anyone know if you can run this on TWO PC’s please ?? (ie. like you can with Sibelius).

Ta.

Hi monsterjazzlicks,

you are allowed to install it in up to 3 computers, but you can only use it on one at a time, since the Dongle has to be connected the whole time.

Regards

Cheers Luis,

So multi-istallation is fine and the dongle allows you to computer-hop.

i was asking because i am buying a new laptop this week (so i will the have a Dell 15" screen and a Dell 17" screen) and was not sure about this fact. So am i also able to install all the other Steinberg related software (eg. HALion Sonic and Content Loop Sets) onto a second PC ??

Ta,

Paul

If you meant Steinberg instead of Sibelius, then yes

Thanks for the correction !!

Hi guys,

i just installed my new Cubase Artist 7 (upgrade from Artist 6) into my PC and have some questions please.

The package comes with CD’s containing HALion Sonic and HALion SE. i have both of these already (from Artist 6) on my PC so just to check the obvious, i am assuming i do not need to re-install them ??

i loaded the Cubase Artist 7 CD into my PC, followed all the prompts and it installed in less than 5 x minutes, no problem. However, i can’t seem to FIND it anywhere and have no idea where it may have put it ?? i have never done a upgrade before so maybe i have done something wrong in the installation process ?? i have left Artist 6 on my PC because someome (on here) suggested i do so just incase my old projects (of the past 2 x years) do play in Artist 7 version. Also, last year i downloaded the 28 x day trial Cubase 7 FULL and still have it on my PC. Not sure if that is causing any conflictions ??

And lastly, i registered the new product onto my e-Lisencer (ie with the Activation Code) and also in my ‘My Steinberg’ online account. Whilst there i noticed another one called ‘Soft e-Licenser’ and i do not know what this is ?? Therefore at present i have nothing whatsoever registered to it. Does this matter please ??

Many thanks in advance…

Best,

If the artist 7 license shows on your USB elicenser then it’s fine. The soft licenser is only used for LE/AI/Elements versions of Cubase so if it’s empty that’s fine.
I’m not at my DAW now, but I guess there should be a shortcut to Cubase on your desktop/in your start menu now. It might be called Cubase 7 instead of Cubase Artist 7.

Else look for it in the folder where you installed Cubase to, it should be there.

i had no idea what the Soft Licenser was for. Yes, all my products are registered to my USB eLicenser so i will just leave everything as it is.

Yes, i thought it would automatically create a desktop shortcut. What i think has happened (if this makes sense) is that it has overwritten everything which was CUBASE 7 (the FULL trial version) and and left Artist 6 untouched. All my Cubase 7 Trial data has totally vanished !! When i click on the icon which was titled ‘Cubase 7 Trial’ (and is still titled ‘Cubase 7 Trial’) it opens up Artist 7. So what i am saying is, Artist 6 remains as was, but the TRIAL version of Cubase 7 FULL has now disappeared and been replaced be Artist 7.

Thanks, let me know what you think…

Interesting, seems like it overwrote at least some of your Cubase 7 trial. That’s not strange because Cubase 7 and Cubase artist 7 are exactly the same, it’s the license that determines which features are available and which aren’t.

The question is, does it work well? Do you have all the presets for plugins for example? If everything is fine, I guess you could just go with it. If you want to be sure, you could also uninstall Cubase 7 completely (both artist and the trial), then pop the disc back in and install Cubase artist 7 again. No need to do the license activation etc again, that’s all done and stored on the USB key. As long as the latest version of the eLCC is installed you can uninstall/reinstall Cubase whenever you like.

Yes, exactly. So you are saying that you think it is quite NORMAL for it to overwrite all/some of Cubase 7 Trial because Artist 7 is the SAME and the only differences/features are determined by those which are made available (ie. unlocked) by the Licenser ??

Thank you, i had not thought of doing that. Maybe i should have UNINSTALLED the Cubase 7 Trial before installing Cubase Artist 7. i just took a quick look and none of the extra plug-ins i have are showing (like Waves and the HALion Sonic), but they are showing within Artist 6. :open_mouth:

If i totally UNINSTALL Cubase 7 Trial and Artist 7 then will it affect anything whatsover within Artist 6 ?? i would like to keep Artist 6 onboard if possible.

i hope that i have clearly explained this for you all.

Cheers,

Paul

To be honest I’m not sure what I expected, in fact if you had the cubase 7 trial you didn’t even need to install cubase artist 7, just adding the license to your USB key would allow you to use that install as Cubase artist 7.

Either way, uninstalling cubase 7 shouldn’t harm cubase 6 at all.
I’m not entirely sure what the most efficient method is for getting all your plugins in Cubase 7. For some it probably works if you just copy the .dll files from the VST plugins folder for Cubase 6 to the Cubase 7 folder. I don’t actually know how to go about VST3 plugins, I doubt you need to install them again but I don’t know how to have them show up. Someone else maybe?

Oh, ok. i did not know that at all. Maybe this is where its gone wrong. i wish i had deleted Cubase 7 Trial now beforehand. i think this is where the problem lies.

Obvoiusly when the CD Upgrade Package arrived the logical thing to do was to INSTALL it via the CD !! There was nothing whatsover in the booklet to say that i needed to UNINSTALL any previous or alternative versions of Cubase. The only thing it repeatedly stated loud and clear was that you need to have already purchased, installed and registered Cubase Artist 6.

i just did it and the installation process was quite different (and longer) this time round.

When i open Artist 7 it now opens a lot faster than it did previously.

But it is still coming up EMPTY for the VSTi plug-in’s ?? (though they work fine on Artist 6).

Ok good, that sounds better .
As for the VST’s, I’m not sure like I said. VST2 plugins you can simply copy the .dll files over from your cubase 6 folder, vst3 I don’t know about.

Thanks a lot man,

i need to check all this out as i think a few things here need to be configured. i have all sorts of things like ‘Missing Ports’ and similar messages coming up as well now. Maybe, (as you suggested) i can copy the required Folders across from Artist 6 to Artist 7.

But in any case, it is definately on the right track now that i completely unisistalled Cubase 7 Trial.

Paul

Sorted out all the stuff in the DEVICES SET-UP now i think. It used all the default Midi Ports and ASIO Drivers etc, so i just copied what settings i had in Artist 6. i thought maybe all the settings would be automatilly copied but obviously not. Luckily my set-up is quite basic and uncomplicated.

i will look at copying the VST3 folders over in the morning…
