Re: PRICE IN US$

Okay, I see it is a price issue only.

As I am aware that USD is cheaper this is true but we have a global pricing structure in the onlineshop and we are an EU based company. Since we have this, there is nothing we can do about this.

A lot of products can be found at dealers in your area, maybe you can haggle there a bit...

I am sorry, I cannot help here but I can keep it in mind if there will be a possibility to change this.

Thanks.

The online shop has the same issue in EU (or Germany in particular): 499 USD are converted into 599 EUR while it should actually be converted the other way around: 499 EUR = 599 USD.

That is a different issue, that is due the the existence of VAT tax that is charged in Europe but not in the USA (only local sales are charged sales tax in the USA). What the OP are complaining about are currency conversion issues.

But we don't have 70 percent VAT here and Cubase is made in Germany so there are no duties or huge shipping costs. There must be an error somewhere else. :|

You will not like what I am writing now but I have to anyways...

Different markets have different prices. For almost all products you will find huge differences in pricing throughout the world. This has various reasons ie import taxes, freight charges, VAT, company structure, market structure etc.. We keep the Onlineshop DL prices on a € SRP level because we need our partners in this region to give support to the customer, do marketing, events and take care of another huge load of processes. If we would offer the products in the Onlineshop cheaper than they can achieve to offer those, we are undercutting our own partners and this is just plain not possible and would not resolve in customer satifaction. Additionally, those products are not coming for free, there are development costs and other huge expenses involved just for this reason an even cheaper price is hard to achieve at all. Of course you can argue that we could do that for products that are only available as DL but we actually do have a pricing structure which would go to waste then and additionally we cannot achieve different pricings for each part of the world just yet. So, for the moment the price you see is the price you will have to pay. If you are not happy with it, try it at a local dealer, if this is not possible for you then there is, unfortunately, nothing I can do.

Thanks.

The difference is not 70%
Cubase 7.5 street price Germany is 459 Euros (Thomann)
Cubase 7.5 street price USA is 499 USD (Sweetwater) = 363 Euros + 20% VAT = 436 Euros

So the street price is approx 5% higher in Germany depending on the current VAT rate, I just used 20% since that is about average for the EU. (Portugal is higher, Lux is lower etc.)

Actually street price in Germany for 7.5 is 489€, not 459€ (if you visit the page from the US then VAT is not included). It seems like the prices dropped massively since 6/6.5. The last time I looked I had to pay 589€ while Sweetwater was selling Cubase for 449$ and that's a totally different story.

So forget all I said.

What would I have to gain by making the street prices up? see attachment taken 5 min ago

Well, a few minutes later called from Germany it looks like this:

Image

But this is a simple VAT or exchange rate problem. A few months ago the price was at 589€ in German stores while US shops were selling Cubase for less than 500$ (incl VAT). This was a huge price gap but the new price is fine with me. We have high taxes here and the competitors are in the same price range (at least the ones that costs around 500$ in the US too).

No, that is not the answer because at the moment the VAT rate is higher in the UK (20%) than in Germany(19%), so the price shown to me should be higher. It may simply be that Thomann is showing different prices to different customers based on their buying history.

And indeed that seems to be the case, by fiddling with my thomann browser cookie I managed to up the price to 469 euros, but no higher than that.
