It’s not harsh at all. Last I checked, it was perfectly acceptable to voice one’s opinion, no matter what the subject. If one do not want any part of discussing particular topics, one should not engage in them.
If no one ever went against the grain, we would still competing with herds on a plain somewhere. I am pretty sure that they had complainers then too, and that someone finally realized that taking residence in a cave would shut them up… until the complaints about the hard floor started.
