Bring back the "On Startup" prefs pop-up

Postby SteveInChicago » Thu Sep 26, 2013 6:03 pm

Bring back the "On Startup" prefs pop-up that was in Preferences>General.

It had options for Open Default Project, Open Last Project, Show Open Dialog which were useful, and apparently popular.

That are now missing.

Can't you effectively achieve the same thing by just enabling the Steinberg Hub and selecting what you want to do from there?

No, the point is to bypass that step. We just want Cubase to open to either "last project" or a default template.

Personally,I never used it. But...OTOH, I've never (not once) been able to get 'Hub' to work, so... why not? :D

I'm commenting because I guess I always wonder why stuff like this (I'm thinking of Tonic now) that isn't bothering anyone, are removed.

I think there should be a formal 'Deprecated' list for features. This is very common in most programming projects. Every time a feature is removed it should be indicated... and at least -some- short explanation as to -why- and perhaps a workaround if needed.

Listen carefully, and you'll just make out the sound of MIDI being wrenched out of Cubase by a programmer who knows MIDI has no place in this century. Audio next. Cubase becomes a video viewer with a built-in notepad -- that's the true spirit of Cubase, unsullied by features wanted by musicians, who, after all, ought never to have had access to it.

... Actually, video doesn't really belong in Cubase either. And nor does a notepad. ... Gone. ... That's better.

Oops, I got a bit carried away there with the general point about useful stuff being removed from Cubase for no (apparently) sensible reason, and forgot to be specific about the subject of this thread - another case that makes a little voice inside say, "But why? Why would SB do that?" Anyway, hopefully better late than never (with apologies to the OP):

The hub is something that even SB seem to ignore these days, best bypassed and left in digiland as most users do. it's never been documented properly with no support , trouble shooting or relevant documented guides from SB for the many many users for which it has never worked.

The "On Startup" prefs would be welcomed by just about everyone should it be re-implemented.

I too miss this option. I wonder why they left the topic on page 59 of the manual? Pretty sloppy proof-reading!
To solve this new "enhancement", I just open Cubase 7 by using a shortcut to a default template file in my working folder. That works for me.

Just upgraded to Cubase 7.5 and I was a bit confused as this default template startup functionality is still mentioned in the operation manual as well. However, I've also noticed that the Hub thing suits my needs better, after all.

I too use the hub but it would be a great boon if one could easily edit the open (i.e. recent) content.
I make a backup to have a backup. I don't need this at the top (default position) of the list next time I start. Even a filter or exclusion options would help. A right click option menu "Remove from this list" can't be too difficult though.
