Re: Sample Editor "Half-Level Axis"....

Well, In the open Sample Editor when I right click over the sample (wave) it's at the bottom of the list -- In Preferences/Editing/Tools "Pop-up toolbox on Right Click" is off = no tick

I noticed it while searching for the now non existent grid for Free Warp.

Re: Working with Automation. can it be fast as in PT?

A couple of things which will speed this process up.

- Open your automation panel and under settings make sure reveal parameter on write and show waveform data on tracks is enabled. This means that any parameter that is written will be revealed in automation lanes without having to search through and you can also see your waveform data underneath the automation.

- If you want to "draw" a quick volume change over the section you can use the line tool rather than the pencil tool which will create the 4 automation points.

- You can quickly use the info line to set automation data. When entering numbers you can either use enter for relative change or ctrl + enter for absolute change. This makes it very easy for example to rubber band some automation points and either adjust them relative to each other or set them all to a specific value.

Re: New control surface for Cubase..? 8...? Please..?

I like the Steinberg CMC-CH controllers, I have all of them (including 4x FD's in their dedicated case), but I understand that some people can't stand the feel of the FD modules because they're used to traditional faders (it actually doesn't take long to get used to the touch faders. Your mileage may vary, of course...)

Behringer has a brand new controller called X-TOUCH , which is way better than the old BCF2000. Better construction, better precision and no more motor noise. Also way better MIDI implementation (no more headaches to configure it as you wish...) Very reasonable price. Tried it at NAMM earlier this year, very good response, seems pretty solid. If I weren't very satisfied with my FD's (I actually like touch faders, they have several important advantages IMHO) and the other CMC-CH's, I would seriously consider it.

Iro: Track Color Pack for Cubase

http://seyoum.net/pictures/Logo.jpg

Hi everyone.

This is a neat little color pack I made for Cubase 7.5. For me, the default colors were not enough as I tend to have a lot of tracks, often with the same instruments, but with variations. It takes a considerable long time to make a set of new colors so I thought I would share it with you guys so you don't need to do this yourself. Am I not grateful? :D

http://i.imgur.com/sRRR0ju.jpg

The pack consists of 8 different main colors with 8 additional shades of each color. Once you install the colors I suggest you do not tamper too much with the intensity/brightness as this can cause some of the colors to look alike. Yes, I did this myself and had to redo everything.

UPDATE: Includes 8 additional colors. These colors are the same color scheme as for the DAWLAB website I am running.

Please see the link to my blog for installation: http://www.dawlab.net/color-pack-for-cubase-inc-maschine-colors/

I do not have the privilege to test this on a mac or different versions of Cubase. If you are able to successfully apply these colors on another system please share how you did it.

Hope you enjoy it!

Re: Mediabay - happy with the order of listings..?

"Agreed, but only if there is no 2 - 9 available, yes..?"

No, anything with a "1" in same column will be listed first.
Then anything with "2".
Same thing as it would be a letter "a" is before "b" etc.
A shorter string is considered lower value - so 10 come after one - unless right adjusted.

See each string as x columns of letters, and rows of strings like that, each column get sorted from left to right.

So you can affect the sort order with how you name things.

When you allow both letters and numbers in a string - I don't think we will see numbered ordering, since in most cases it's impossible. If ending with numbers it would be possible to handle that and insert fills to rightadjust it.

So if you name stuff with ending numbers - just do it like 001, 002 and similar. Then it will sort like you want.

Myself I would love to naming templates for just about everything. You know with placeholders "NNNNNNNNNN" for 10 position name, "HHMMSS" for timestamp etc. "000" could be number always three positions, with leading zeros. This for audio files, projects files and anything really.

In Reaper you have this ability.

Re: Cubase 8 wishes

+1 to all these great suggestions/ideas.

Here's something I've not seen mentioned:-

The ability to see the whole plugin chain (inserts) for that channel, in the plugins header area - no matter which or whose (manufacturer) plugin you open first. You can see this work great in Wavelab 8.5 and Studio One. You simply stay in the one window and click on the plugin name in the header area, to switch the view to that plugin UI. Really quick, smooth, elegant workflow.

Forgive me if something of this is already available in Cubase, and I haven't seen it... please advise..!

Cheers,
bob
In Studio One you can also assign a key command for moving back and forth between the plugins. Great when tweaking (I have those KC's on two adjecent keys, where I have my left ring and middle finger).
You can also use the mouse wheel.

Re: Isn't it possible to route midi out from Groove Agent 4?

Good morning gentlemen,

I guess it's about time to show some commitment (before I get fired...).

Actually it's just not possible to answer every question, feature request, or inquiry that are posted in the forum. But I can assure you that we are browsing the forum and reading you posts on a regular basis. And we take your thoughts and discussions seriously.

I can totally understand that it may be frustrating sometimes, when you are asking for a solution or a feature and there is no direct response from Steinberg, whether the problem will be solved or certain features will be implemented. But we can't talk about future releases before we are dead certain, which fixes and features will make it in the release version and when the version will be ready to be released. I hope you somewhat understand that we cannot always be as transparent in the development of our software as you would like us to be. [End of the defense plea...]

Here is the good news. Even before Groove Agent 4 was officially released the team started working on the first update. There is no release date yet and the list of fixes and improvements is not yet finalised, but trust me, this thread can be marked as "solved" after the update will be released.

Re: Visual indicators in the Ruler (Punch-in, Pre-roll and m

This brings me towards the suggestion that the L/R cycle markers should be separate to the punch In/Out markers... Although we have pre and post-roll, it would be more intuitive to be able to create a loop and then specify I/O punches inside the loop just when you choose to.

Oh, another suggestion that stems from that is then the Punch I/O markers are automatically set when you manually punch in and out - ready for being automatic if another take is needed.

Visual indicators in the Ruler (Punch-in, Pre-roll and more)

For better visualisation of Transport behaviour settings, some colored indicators could be introduced to the Ruler:

Change color of the white Locator flags to visualize when Punch-in is active:

- Left Locator flag red when Punch-in is active.
- Right Locator flag red when Punch-out is active.

And new green colored flags in the Ruler for
- Pre-roll position
- Post-roll position
if they are active (static if recording from Left Locator, but Pre-roll position would only be shown in Stop mode if recording from Cursor).

And a visual indicator in the Ruler for Record Start position: Left Locator or Cursor .
It could be a red dot or arrow or something at the actual position, shown only in Stop mode.

And, as in another Feature Request, when in Cycle mode the cycle range could change color, preferrably to the same color as the cycle button ).

Re: 24 Ports via ADAT and Minimum 16 ports of Analog Needed

Hi,

there is no firmware/software update that can allow this. You can't daisy-chain units with USB, so when using two units as stand-alone you will always be limited to the facilities available on the master device, i.e. 8 analogue ins and outs 2x ADAT ins and outs (plus the phones outs).

I'm not in the position to reply extensively to your questions, but I'm not aware of a discontinuation of this unit.

Re: McDSP v6 release - no VST3

Am I dense? The main site says vst3 now supported.

And at naam
http://youtu.be/5-bONyKRNPI
Apart from the one logo on the front page, I can see no other reference to VST3 support specifically anywhere else on their main site. Did you see something I have missed..?

The YT naam vid is a pre-release announcement from January this year, when they were stating VST3 editions included with their next big update. The actual release info posted yesterday, I'd picked up from the listing on KVR front page - and there is no logo, no mention of VST3 at all. Anywhere.

http://www.pro-tools-expert.com/home-page/2015/3/31/mcdsp-v6-plug-ins-now-available-at-50-off.html

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ML4000Nat

Ok, first off, why on earth would McDsp show a VST3 icon if they didn't support VST3?

Every one of those links I just shared with you shows VST3 support. I also downloaded a demo. Guess what? VST3!

So they've run into some grief or other trying to support this platform; they said back in January, it would be there... 2 months later, and seems it wasn't worth it. Like it was for U-he and probably many others, the VST3 debacle continues.

Try not to take this the wrong way. I understand you want the VST3 versions, and they really do exist! BUT.... to form that statement that I just quoted above ^^^ is a far reach from truth because you had no facts. i.e.: You assumed there wasn't vst3 support because KVR didn't share it. You are a bad bad boy!! :D Stare at the cow!

So, have joy! I used to use these plugins all the time in PT. I'm glad to see them come back to life and come to vst. My favorite is/was the ae400 active EQ.

Re: Windows 10 - please do not upgrade! Discussion

Windows 10 is always going to be a 'work in progress'. There will never be a Windows 10 in a locked down, no more updates state. If we accept that, then Steinberg's decision to wait for RTM may be correct, but how do they know that a future update won't 'break' Cubase's functionality in some way? They don't, nor can they know.

I used to work in software management and it isn't easy. For the record, I have gone to Windows 10 and all seems fine, but I can understand why people are cautious. They are good people who are doing their job as best they can.

Indeed, there is no guarantee but at the moment it's very much about rather fundamental issues that need to be addressed and Microsoft contacted us as a result of our statement regarding Windows 10 compatibility. We are working on a solution with Microsoft now and they are really eager to have it working as they put much effort in the audio parts of Windows 10.

Re: All my student are dissaponted in this feature

But that doesn't work clicking on the 'slots' for the Sends, the OP's main complaint at this point (for Inserts, yes - what you say is true..). But, as I'd said, if you Right-Click on the send level (slot) you've set up, you can then choose 'Edit Effect...' from the context menu, to get to the specific plugins UI.

Ok, not quite as elegant as a dedicated button I'd agree - but pretty good. :-)

I think you can also Alt/Double Click on the send slot.

Re: Cubase 8.0.30

FYI...
CB 8.0.30 downloaded, installed and my (4) current projects open and seem to be working good. ;)

Regards 8-)
Would you do a very quick test for me please prock..? I can't install and check myself yet; right in the middle of an album project, which I am not going to upset any til its done... :)

Follow these quick steps:-
1. Open MIDI Key Editor
2. Select a MIDI note and drag to a new note position
3. The info tool tip that shows the relative position information when you move the note is an unreadable white box unless it moves over an existing note

Is the floating tooltip, still showing as white text on a white background box..?

Cheers,
Bob

PS:- this was due for fixing, (BON-4943 - a graphical glitch that manifests throughout the program) but is not listed in the Version History - so I'm not hopeful; but sometimes things do get addressed, but are just not listed there...

Looks like it is working for me.

Re: A/Bing pitch corrected vocals?

Well I probably should have created a new track version first, but I didn't, and now I was wondering if its possible to A/B pitch corrected vocals done through VariAudio Pitch and warp in the sample editor with the original unaltered recording? Seems hitting the variAudio button on and off in the sample editor does't actually change the sound.

When your program settings are set to 'make new version' out of edits (see screenshot) you should be able to duplicate your track to a track version and undo all VA processing there >>> result should be v1 with VA and v2 without.
program settings.JPG

VA on/off is working here too. With just light corrections the eye sometimes fools the ear, try some bizarre pitching (lots of semitones) and try on/off again.

Also, is it possible to adjust the volume of individual pitches in Pitch & Warp ala Melodyne? I know I can do it in the "process" tab in the sample editor, but this removes the pitch & time analyzation so I instead have to use the range tool to select words, which is a bit more difficult than just selecting the analyzed block. I know this can be done in Melodyne and I'm hoping Cubase can do something similar?

No. At an insane, nearly unusable high zoom level you get a mute-X by hovering over to mute a segment, smooth leveling is something to hope for in a future version.

Lastly, I've noticed that while in the sample editor when I use the "play tool" (speaker) to play back sections in solo, they are WAY louder than normal playback. Is there some kind of setting thats making this tool playback audio louder?

While playback the signal runs through the channel, with the speaker/scrub tool the audio is played back 1:1. If you have control room enabled you can turn down the listening level for such usecases there. Been close to heart attack myself a few times :o

Re: Can we get track visibility to work?

I have a key command for 'Update Visibility Configuration'. This makes it a lot quicker to remove any newly created tracks from your visibility configs.
Care to share J-S-Q..? Can it remove them from specific visibility configs..? (one KC per group I guess..?).

I just mean I have a key command to update whatever is the currently active config. So, I'll hide a newly created track in the visibility tab and then use the key command to update the config (has to be done in all configs).

You could take it a step further and create a macro that hides currently selected tracks and then updates the config with a single key stroke. You would still have to do this for all configs but if you also have key commands to recall your different configs, it only takes seconds. If it REALLY bothers you, you could probably create a script in Autohotkey to remove selected tracks from all your visibility configs with a single key stroke.

It's not that big a deal for me because I start with a fairly large template so I'm not adding new tracks every five minutes. Just as I get into the advanced stages of a project I find I'll need to occasionally add a track.

I also use the track class selector in some of my configs. e.g. I have a config that shows all my groups and it is set to show ONLY group tracks. If I add an audio/instrument track to the project, it will not appear in this config.

To respond as quickly as possible to urgent user requests, two issues have been fixed with this minor maintenance update. This update resolves the issue where VCA connected channels are rendered unusable when adjusting the volume fader with the mouse scroll wheel alongside an issue with the video engine stopping when outputting video to external devices.

The update is now available for download from the Steinberg website.
For detailed information, please view the corresponding version history on the download page.

The 8.5.15 updaters are available here:

Re: Update Version 8.5.15 Wont' Install

I'm guessing that people who have issues with the installation of 8.5.15 have, at some point, had their registries altered. This might be because of the use of registry cleaners, it might be a Windows update patch installation, another program etc.

What it isn't, I don't think, is an issue with the Steinberg installer. Why should it be? If the Steinberg installation registry entries are OK, then there won't be an issue. If they've been altered, deleted etc, then problems will happen.

I had to re-install 8.5 when 8.5.10 came out. It wouldn't install 8.5.10. My bad. I'd run a registry cleaner, not checked the findings and just clicked delete. Embarrassing? yes, lesson learnt? yes.

I know it's frustrating, but user errors, mistakes, misunderstandings account for the majority of problems down the line. I've done my share of them, believe me.

Re: Protools automation feature in Cubase?

OK, but I'm unsure of how this is 'fast and efficient..., I mean, you still have to then swap back to the object selection tool, draw a box around two of the points created, and only then can you grab the top of the area box to adjust that portion of the volume automation line, up or down.

Hmmm... am I wrong..?
That's why I (from my earlier post in this thread):

I have made a macro (need that to get the Line Tool) and a Key Command to select the Line Tool (macro) and a second KC for the Selection Tool.
I have placed these KCs next to each other on the keyboard = Very fast > One hit for the line tool > drag > one hit for selection tool > select > adjust up/down.

PS. I "rest" my middle and ring finger on those two keys/KCs for very fast selection between them.

Re: Range Selection Tool in Key editor window

I just tried and I can't seem to get it to do anything useful - no ALT+drag a selection to produce a copy; no CTRL+C/V to copy/paste a range... what am I missing..?
Hi,
For Copy/Paste.. Copy while the Range Tool is still active, but you have to switch back to the regular Select (Arrow) Tool in order to Paste at the desired position.
As for Drag 'n' Drop, I have noticed that it can indeed be a bit temperamental here.. just make sure that the Hand Tool is showing (while the Range Tool is still active). You'll normally find that the tool is set for modifying the selected Range, but can indeed be "tricked" into changing to the Hand Tool. This usually involves juggling the mouse vertically (maybe up as far as the main Ruler). I know it isn't ideal (buggy? Accident?), but in any case, Copy/Paste should work if you do like I mentioned earlier ;).

Re: Range Selection Tool in Key editor window

Workaround time!

Make your selection in the Key Editor and then
Transport - Locate selection start
Copy ... or Cut
Transport - Enter Cursor Position
Up Arrow
Up Arrow
Paste

I don't know if you've changed your Key Commands so I just wrote the names of the commands out instead.
Most of the lines are pretty obvious except the Enter Cursor Position thingie, maybe?
It's a great tool for navigating with extra precision.
When you invoke it a little box in the middle of the screen appears.
Up Arrow increase the selected part of the position and Down Arrow decrease it, funnily enough.
Right Arrow and Left Arrow moves the selection to different parts of the position in bars and beats etc.
So in my example with hitting Up Arrow twice you move two whole bars to the right.
This is instantaneous so you can watch where the position cursor is in the project.
The beauty of it all is that the subdivisions are retained when you change the value with the arrow keys.
This means that if your located selection starts at 11.2.0.123 and you move the position two bars you will end up at 13.2.0.123 precisely.
When you have done this a few times it gets second nature.
Since the selection is in the clipboard of the computer you can move e.g. two more bars and paste again.
Same goes for closing the Key Editor and opening another Part on another Track in the Key Editor and paste again.

HTH

Now if we only also had a Lasso Tool:

Re: Import 2 mono tracks into a stereo one

So you open the two mono files. Down at the bottom right where it says "mono" you click and convert to stereo. You choose whether you want the file to be on the left or right. Then "paste special" the second file over the empty channel. Then re-import onto a stereo track x
