AAF files from Avid Symphony 6.5 not coming in properly

Post by PaulDV » Sat Dec 15, 2012 8:37 pm

Hi,

I'm having issues with importing AAF files from Avid Symphony 6.5. When I export, if I choose to not separate the stereo files into mono files, the import comes in with 2 pieces of audio only. If I export the AAF and choose to break apart stereo clips into mono, everything seems to come in, but they are not accurately laid out on the timeline. Some things are on top of each other, some audio is pushed farther down the timeline or just in the wrong place entirely. Are there any known issues or tips for importing AAF files from Avid properly?

Thanks!

I had this made some time ago (see attachment) but the instructions are still working for me. Occasionally I'll get one that won't work but the fail-safe there is to open in PT's or similar and then export to Nuendo.

Nuendo 5.x version number?
Basically Nuendo 5.5+ has introduced some nasty new AAF bugs, and it's a good idea to try to import using 5.1.

I'm using Nuendo 5.5.4. I got it to work but I had to do a few more steps.

First I had to create a new sequence where I split all my audio tracks to mono (not the best in Avid because of the 24 track limit.

Then I had to use these settings and it seemed to work.

Am I missing anything? It seemed to have moved over okay. I've been used to the OMF import workflow and have used AAF from Avid in the past, but since upgrading to Symphony 6.5 and Nuendo 5.5.4, I've had to change some steps. I wonder if it's because of the stereo tracks. Nuendo doesn't seem to like to import those from AAF.
