WL8.5 (and 8.0) errors

I have had stable working version of Wavelab 8.0 & 8.5 for more than a year.
In the past week I am continually getting error messages.

We have looked at all our drive & system permissions. It acts like a rights issue. In fact Wavelab has not remembered the last 6 projects that montages were created and saved in the recent montage list. It doesn’t seem to remember our preference settings (like: don’t write graphics files on export).

I have a rich-text document with screen grabs, but I cannot post Rich-text here.

We mostly use WL8.5, but so Even if 8.5 were corrupt 8.0 should not be, AND I also am having weird issues with Nuendo 6.0.7.

Any Ideas ???
WHere are the error logs located ?

Thanks,
Brain

Please verify that this folder is write-enabled. Eg. copy some file there:

C:\Users[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\WaveLab 8.5

C:\Users[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\WaveLab 8.5

Yes I can manually paste stuff into that folder.
I can drag & drop, audio files play from new location
picture files open photo program and display picture.

What else ???

When you quit WaveLab, can you verify in the Task Manager, that WaveLab really quitted? Maybe it hangs invisibly, hence can’t write its settings while exiting.

I suggest also, at least temporarily, to erase the folder
C:\Users[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\WaveLab 8.5

We uninstalled WL8.5 and reinstalled. And the errors went away.
But, I wanted to have all my presets, prefs, etc. back so I had a back up of these on a remote server.
If I copy just the …
Cache
Preferences
Presets
I do not get the window layout or my default template, or any of my config setup.
If I copy the startup.ini I get the error messages (on startup, on render, on save)
So if the startup.ini (which should have been a safe, un-corrupt backup causes issues, where is the problem???)
Can I get my defaults back or not.

I compared the new install “Startup.ini” against my back up and …

The new install startup.ini contains:
[General]
Language=31
Install-ID={2133920c-5ec6-4849-a00d-c32a3c6a36a2}
Launch=10

The old backup contains:
[General]
Language=31
Launch=3
SettingScope=1
SettingPath=
StartupScreen=true

I copied over the following content from back up to new startup.ini:
SettingScope=1
SettingPath=
StartupScreen=true

I got errors.
I deleted each item 1 at a time and find that the “SettingScope=1” causes the errors (and I loose my presets)

Is there anyway to fix this or do I have to recreate my presets, window layouts, configs, etc. ???

Thanks,
Brain

That means you had your settings copied in some “all users” place, not in your personal location.

Find them there:
C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\WaveLab 8.5

I think this place has become not writable for some reason, hence your trouble.

What do I need to copy where.
The Prefs are in C:\users\MyName\appdata\Roaming\Steinberg\Wavelab8.5 (which by the way is where I was told to put them the last time I had an issue)

Use the new startup.ini but use the old stuff.

Sorry,
No matter what I do, I cannot get my saved presets/prefs/config to work.

I don’t know anymore what specifically to put where.

Im our discussions we have mentioned both of these file paths…
C:\users\MyName\appdata\Roaming\Steinberg\Wavelab8.5
C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\WaveLab 8.5

Am I going to have to manually rebuild these?
I use the settings portion so little I am not sure I know HOW to get back to the way my boss likes it.

Thanks,
Brian

If you have a fresh install, wavelab will look there to get the settings:
C:\users\MyName\appdata\Roaming\Steinberg\Wavelab8.5

if you have settings saved elsewhere, including wavelab 8.0 settings, copy them to the above path.
