Post by dorremifasol » Wed Jul 31, 2013 3:17 pm

Classic FM oscillator with at least 4 operators. Would be great with 7 and even more if it could read DX7 sysex prorgrams :D

Or a new turbo charged FM VST3 synth from Yamaha/Steinberg !

I can't believe there isn't a top-notch FM VST3 synth so far. It's about time this changed :D

If they follow their current methodology, any stand alone VST3 synth will simply be based on an engine they will use in Halion.

as an ex fs1r owner i just can say programming fm is pretty difficult, programming fm on the fs1r was nightmare..
the fs1r endet as a preset player...they had some very awesome sounding patches and also some fm cliché patches...

as long as you can import the old dx7 banks i m with it !!!

On computer you can make awesome GUI compared to the limited LCD display and knobs on FS1R, its all about designign a great user experience.

In the days of awesome iPad synth interfaces hopefully the instrument team can port an older Yamaha synth engine with a fresh and mature GUI and add features like preset mutators etc. (like in Arturia stuff) for instant gratification.

"AFM" comes to mind (Yamaha SY77/SY99)... the combination of FM and sample playback. The latter is already there, with an additional FM oscillator HALion could be a SY99 on steroids!!!

So please: FM! FM! FM! Yesyesyes!!

I am not really very interested in importing DX7 patches or any other for that matter. I am however, extremely interested in getting a FM oscillator with 8+ operators (a user defined count would be brilliant) in HALion!

A GUI for a customizable structure (algorithm) of those user selected number of operators as well as being able to control to/from externally would be fabulous too.

For anyone unfamiliar with FM synthesis, here's an article basically explaining how they operate (enjoy that pun).

HALion already rules (thanks for a really awesome sound engine that I truly enjoy working with), but stagnation is key to loosing crowns, so get polishing, team 6! ;)
