eLicenser on VirtualBox VM

Post by chickadee » Wed Nov 20, 2019 11:11 pm

I have installed Windows 10 on in VirtualBox. When I try to activate Cubase
Pro I get a message saying that the version of eLicenser is too old and I
need to upgrade it. eLicenser is up to date (current version 6.11.9.3259 -
November 4, 2019). The real issue I believe is that eLicenser cannot make
sense of the OS being run as a VM. Here is the log generated when I attempt
to enter my activation code...

Apart from the fact that the USB eLicenser is a piracy protection device that is unlikely to work in a virtualized environment in the first place, what are you hoping to achieve? Audio latency will be abysmal. Reatime audio applications need to be as near to the metal as possible.
Windows 10 • Cubase 10.5.12 • WaveLab 10.0.20 • SpectraLayers 6.0.30 • HALion 6.3.1 • Groove Agent 5.0.20 • Midex

I use Cubase mainly for music composition so latency is not an issue as much (5ms on the VM). Yes, the VB Extensions are installed.

Then I guess it doesn't work in a hypervisor environment.
