[SOLVED] External Synth and Midi Timing issues

Hello There,
first of all I apologize if it’s a stupid question.

I’m not able to figure out how to consistently manage outbobard synth with Cubase.

If I’m controlling via midi an external synth and listenign to it in real time, I’m not able to figure out how to manage the timing.

For example, if I’m using a 512KB buffer size on the audio card, then I know I have to set the delay of the Midi Track to around -30ms to play in sync with the other tracks.
This is manageable, not the best way to work, but manageable.

The problem arise when I start to insert some plugin which adds some delay, then things become a mess, and I need to adjust by ear the delay of the midi track to re-align the audio.

When I record, the track is perfectly aligned. But I have to rember to set the delay on the MIDI track to zero.

How do you guys manage this sort of things?

What I’m doing wrong?

I work 99% listening to outboard synths in real time

Thank you

My setup is based on:
Cubase Pro 8.5
Windows 8.1 pro
RME HDSPe Madi FX connected to an Antelope Orion 32
Midi is offered by ESI M8UXL

Setting Up and External Instruments in the VST Connection page, did the trick.

Now everything is aligned, and the delay compensation is automatically managed by Cubase.

It was a lot that I didn’t use outboard synths, I was sure the stupid was me

Thank you
