Hi to all,

An issue was reported with "+" symbol in composite time signature in this version.
It has been fixed and we have just updated the November 2.2 installer, so please, Dorico users, redownload the zip file and reinstall November 2!
Sorry for the inconvenience, but at least it has been fixed quickly! ;)

NB: it doesn't affect other platforms (Finale etc.)

Best,
Robert
Thanks Robert,
but the Version that is now available at Klemm for Download via the Link is 2.10 rather then the updated 2.2 !!!

Hi,

You're right, there still seems to be a problem with the version currently available, although it is definely tagged 2.2, not 2.1! This is not the latest release candidate intended.
We'll have to wait until the end of the week-end I suppose in order to solve this out, and I will let you know as soon as this is fixed!

Best,
Robert

Hello Robert,
i used the link from the very first v2 purchase mail (the one with log/pw); with it you are led to 2.10
Filename there: November_Music_Font_2.0.zip

And then i have a mail promoting a free 2.1 update; with it you are led to 2.2
Filename is: November_Music_Font_2.zip

I think you have some serious problems with the naming scheme and your links.
Hope to have it fixed soon ;-)

Best,
Jörg

Hi again, dear Dorico users!

The server problem has been finally fixed thanks to the quick action from my publisher Klemm Music Technology. So you may download the archive from this link again:
https://www.klemm-music.de/notation/nov ... Font_2.zip
(contrary to what I said, please do not use the old urls, as you will simply get the old files!)

Sorry for the inconvenience, but were are confident that this is a solid release!

Robert, that link doesn't quite work! It's got the Steinberg Forum URL at the front of it.

I've been eyeing this font for years! Going back to my days using Finale. The cost, and my personal usage prevented me from using it back then. Today, I decided to go ahead and purchase the font, since I have both the money and possible the use.

I am having an issue though. What I see on the screen and what I print are 2 different things.

Here is the screen:

Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong? I installed the font using the font installer. I am on Mac OS X (10.14.2), Dorico 2.2.10. My printer is HP Laserjet 400 color M451dn.

I hesitate to ask, but… Did you restart after installing?

Hi Robby,

This is really strange indeed.
Yes, as Dan suggested, let us see if restarting helps (a font cache issue?.. But in any case, this is "puzzling"!)

Initially I did not restart.

Now I restarted, and it is still the same thing.

Any other thoughts?

If it matters.....

I of course have Petaluma installed, along with MTF-Cadence. So a total of 4 SMuFL fonts, and November2 is the only one that acts that way.

Here is another picture taken, of a different piece.

This has a key signature of 2 sharps, and you can see that it looks like two faint hand drawn note heads with the sharp symbol visible where the 2 sharps would normally go. Along with a faint handwritten F clef.

Just for fun, I tried seeing if Finale did anything differently, and it did not.

Here is the example.

(I just printed a page to a HP laserjet 1102W from within Dorico 2.2: no problem.)

What happens when you save as pdf, and then print the page from the pdf?
Trying to understand, as I have never come across such a weird situation before.
Has anyone else seen this?..

Just tried it....

Exporting to PDF, then printing the PDF prints correctly.

So at least we have a workaround, and it is not too tedious! ;)

I will try tomorrow with 10.14.2 on another machine, and who knows, maybe this is a factor.
I'd be very interested to know if you are the only one experiencing this.

I'm stating the obvious, but it appears there's something about the paths in November that your printer driver really doesn't like, Robby. I wonder whether you have the option of trying another driver? E.g. if you're using driver software provided by HP, try using the macOS default drivers instead.

Robert, you might try making sure that all of the paths in the font have the appropriate winding direction set for the OpenType PS format.

I think it'd be interesting to try another driver, yes.
There could be a correlation with Mojave, too. I will try different setups later today.\

Daniel, you are talking about the vectorial path direction for each glyph, correct?
I have a sophisticated script that alerts me upon compilation in case of glyph errors, and according to this script, there is no wrong path direction in November2.
And if we take the standard black notehead (noteheadBlack U+E0A4) that looks as if it has been eaten by some rodent on Rooby's printed pages, this is a super simple and regular glyph, made just of a few curve points.
There might something else to explain this mystery, "as big as a house" (as we say in French!)

Hi again Robby and Daniel,

So here is the result of my printing campaign.

I tried the following combinations:

- macOS 10.12.6, macOS 10.14.1 (which I later updated to macOS 10.14.3)
- HP Laserjet 9040, HP Laserjet P3005, HP Color Laserjet M552
- official HP drivers ("PostScript drivers 19.13"), or generic PostScript drivers (Apple, I imagine?)

I printed from within Finale 26 (not from PDF!), and was never able to reproduce the scrambled glyphs.
Not sure what I should do next on my side to help.

Robert

I don't think the problem lies within Dorico itself, but rather with the printer driver, so I guess that has to be the next plan of attack, Robby: you need to see whether or not any alternative drivers are available for your printer.

First off, many thanks to Robert P for his efforts in helping me. As well as Daniel.

The problem is now fixed. And I figured I would post it here in case anyone else runs into this issue.

I updated to 10.14.3 (I was on 10.14.2, and thought I had installed the newest update, but apparently did not). After recognizing the discrepancy from Robert's post above.

As suggested, I searched for a new driver from the HP website. Turns out one was available back in Sep 2018.

Before installing the new driver, Mac OS System Preferences under printers and scanners showed that driver version 2.0 was installed. The HP website showed 2.9.XX.XX (2.9.something) as the newest available one.

I downloaded the driver updater, and followed the steps. Nearing the end, the updater said that I had the AirPrint driver installed, and that it was recommended by HP to use the HP driver. I switched to the HP driver, and completed the process (2 more steps of verifying a page printed, etc.).

Once complete, I opened Dorico and my Font test file, and it worked.

The AirPrint driver I am not 100% sure how I got that on there (maybe trying to print from my iPhone years ago?). However, this problem is now solved provided I am using the HP Driver.
