Dorico demo expired - now Halion Presets license error?

Postby csd » Thu Apr 06, 2017 10:22 pm

Where are the Halion presets the Dorico loads stored? I installed the Dorico demo, and after it expired, I now get a license error for Halion Symphonic Orchestra Presets 01 when launching Nuendo. I can't figure out where this is stored to delete (uninstalling Dorico didn't delete everything).

I found a few seemingly related files and deleted those, but no luck on the one Nuendo keeps trying to verify. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Do you also own Halion Symphonic Orchestra (HSO)?

This library does NOT come with Nuendo, nor any version of Sonic or HALion. It's an independent content pack.

HSO does come with Dorico however, so a Dorico eLicenser key can unlock it.

To get rid of the pop ups about HSO Content you've got a few choices.
1. Purchase HSO and put your key on the eLicenser.

2. Purchase Dorico (which comes with HSO) and put that key on the eLicenser.

3. Uninstall HSO. It gets installed separately from Dorico, so it'll all need to be uninstalled separately.
You can do this via the Windows "Programs and Features" control panel.

If you've made user presets for HSO in any version of HALion, then you can delete them from inside HALion itself, or find those user made presets at:
"%USERPROFILE%\Documents\VST 3 Presets\Steinberg Media Technologies\<Directory of which ever HALion plugin(s) you made HSO Presets with>"

The actual vstsound library archives for HSO are usually found in:
"%SYSTEMDRIVE%\ProgramData\Steinberg\Content\HALion\VST Sound\VST Sound - HSO"
and
"%SYSTEMDRIVE%\ProgramData\Steinberg\Content\VST Sound"

It's best to use your OSes intaller/uninstaller to get rid of them rather than trying to weed out vstsound archives, but this is where they get stashed on Windows systems. Not sure about Macs.

If on Mac, we don't have an uninstaller for HSO, but you could delete the folder
/Library/Application Support/Steinberg/Content/HALion/VST Sound/VST Sound - HSO

@Brian: Many thanks for the comprehensive description, couldn't have done that any betteer.

Thanks - I plan to buy Dorico eventually.

Brian - This is only due to Dorico installing it's version of HSO, but not fully deleting on uninstall. I don't have HSO, so I can't go that route to uninstall, nor would I have the license error if I did.

Ulf - I am on PC. I already deleted the ProgramData/Steinberg/Conten/Halion/VST Sound/HSO folder. I can't find anything else related to HSO other than HS and HSSE .vstsound files in the VST Sound folder.

OK, things were different here. I never ran a trial. I'd purchased the boxed edition of Dorico, and HSO came on its own disk to be installed independently of Dorico (It can use the Dorico License Key though).

Something that's pretty common with Steinberg apps on Windows:
Content packs often get their own installers. I.E. I can remove/update Dorico, Cubase, HALion, Groove Agent, etc...and leave the content packs in place.

Have a look at the "Programs and Features" list in your Windows Control Panel.

There's one more file at C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\Content\VST Sound\FCP_SMT_027_HSO_Presets_01.vstsound
Have you deleted that one as well?
