Cubase Artist 7.0.7 to Cubase Artist 9.5 worth it ??

Post by c28560 » Sat Apr 14, 2018 6:36 pm

Good Day Folks.

I'm currently using Cubase Artist 7.0.7, and I'm very happy with it. No crashes and the work flow is good.

Of course eventually we start thinking about upgrading to the latest release. Has anyone had personal experience with the mentioned upgrade ?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
/Serge

There are enormous differences between the two. One big thing for me is the new metronome system that allows the grid to be configured, also there have been improvements in performance, Score Editor, the addition on a sampler track, Visibility configs (hide and show tracks based on criteria, etc. )

Since you already have a USB key, you can download the 30 day trial and check it out without cost.

Thanks for the reply Steve.

I noticed you're using Cubase 9.5 Pro. I'm wondering if the mentioned improvements are available in Cubase Artist 9.5. I'll check the comparison chart.

I'm always hesitant installing trial versions, afraid that it might make changes which affect my current installation of Cubase.

Here's some of the stuff you'll get if you upgrade to Cubase 9.5:

-Far better CPU and graphics performance compared to Cubase 7
-Many new plugins and content
-A ton of workflow and usability improvements
-Many things that people disliked about Cubase 7 and 7.5 have been improved
-Several popular feature requests have been implemented, such as mixer and effect plugin undo, easy to edit automation curves, 16 inserts, even faster MIDI editing, render in place and much more

Some of the most important features added in each version:

Cubase 7.5
Cubase 8
Cubase 8.5 (Playlist with more info)
Cubase 9 (Additional details in this PDF)
Cubase 9.5

To be honest though I don't think these pages do justice to how much things have changed since Cubase 7. There are hundreds of undocumented changes and tweaks that help make Cubase 9.5 feel far better to use.

Of course you're missing a very important "feature" by switching to 9.5 - the loss of 32 bit plug ins - no loss to me coz it improved stability no end - which was worth losing some of my old 32 bit favourites, but to others it was a big deal.

If you need to use 32 bit plugins, you can just buy jBridge. They'll most likely work even better than before, and without the crashes.

The biggest thing added to the Score Editor is the MIDI inspector, which used to only be in the Key Editor and which now includes chord editing tools, and that's included in Artist 9.5. But like the others are saying, installing Cubase 9.5 won't change your Cubase 7 install. It gets its own install directory and user data directory, separate from the older versions, so barring something bizarre happening, it should have no effect.

I don't really know what kind of work you do in Cubase, but if you post some info you'll get more info. But the best thing to do is play around with the new version- a lot has changed.

you will loose the fullscreen mixer, there was bugs then and there are bugs now, and you will loose the video engine as you know it in 9, if you are using it. There are a few good and useful features in 9.5 thats not in 7, but there are also a hole bunch of gimmics (in my opinion). I dont know if theres so much performance boost as well, but I have never pushed my system so hard. Bottom line is that theres nothing that stops you from doing what you are doing in 7 that magically is possible in 9.
