I found the problem:
My audio interface doesn’t support direct monitoring. In previous versions this wasn’t a problem. In the Preferences/Metering settings I had to uncheck the “Map input bus metering to audio track (in direct monitoring)” function. Now the application doesn’t freeze up anymore.
PLEASE FIX this bug in future updates!!!
