I've written in this very thread, that it is not ok - at least over here. And I am eagerly waiting for some sort of fix on this matter.

What is the deal with the win 10 drivers?
Steinberg states that the entire product line is win 10 ready, but no new drivers for mr816.
Finding that out was a chore. Still TBA apparently.
I was looking at a 828 and a ur 22 mkii(for my iPad) but I just can't with this lack of support or even basic communication.
I am hearing loud and clear that I am not important to steinberg

The problem was with microsoft and also fixed by microsoft, that's the reason (in my opinion) for no new mr816 drivers.

Hi all, I read through this, and I think several are saying that the problem is fixed and it's safe to upgrade to windows 10, no new MR816 driver needed nor expected. Did I read it right? Thinking about giving it a try.
Thanks.

If it is safe is subjective, it always can go wrong. However Steinberg has finished it's testing and gave windows 10 it's approval so yes you can!

I don't get where this view comes from. AFAIK, officially Steinberg stated only their Sequencer products to be compatible.
This is consistent with what is stated here about Windows OS compatibility. But I do see how the message referenced first can become confusing (the last sentence This is why we can announce Windows 10 an officially supported operating system across the entire Steinberg product line.).

My case might be special, but at least I get regular dropouts with normal audio playback with the very same hardware setup which has been working fine ever since 2009 with Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. I've also opened up a ticket but haven't heard back yet.

According to Steinberg's Download page for the MR816 the drivers are for Windows 7,8, and 8.1. No mention of Windows 10, so I assume that the driver is not ready. I can't test it because I won't upgrade to 10 until I have drivers.
How hard can it be for Steinberg to let us know if the drivers work in 10 or if they are still TBA?

If you read this then it would seem that you can install win10 and work with it.

That they didn't update the information on the drivers section is a bit pitty but I can understand that this is easily forgotten.

The fix refers to this
" we are happy to announce that the Windows 10 related performance and timing issues of our sequencer products (Cubase, Nuendo, Sequel) have now been resolved with the latest Windows update"
Nothing about the Mr sample rate switching problem.
I find your position odd. Do you own a Mr816? Have you actually tried your unit under Windows 10?
You seem to just repeat Steinberg's assertion that everything works when there is no indicated support for the MR816 under Winows 10.
Do you have any information other than what Steinberg states on their web site, which is the source of this confusion?

If you read this then it would seem that you can install win10 and work with it.
First, I note that you don't have any MR816s listed in your signature block. So why is this a topic you feel compelled to discuss??? Next, as of right now, the section that ACTUALLY APPLIES to MR816s says:

"Issues with sample rate changes. Update planned, release date tba."

That means it DOES'NT work properly. It STILL doesn't work properly and Steinberg still refuses to say when (or if!) they will provide an updated driver. I had hoped that with the new W10 update, there would be an announcement that the issue had been resolved. Nope, no such luck. So those of us who purchased MRs remain stuck without working drivers for the most modern version of the worlds most prolific operating system.

The only thing here that is pitiful is Steinberg's treatment of its hardware customers.

I don't have the drop out issues with the MR816csx in combination with W10, but I DO have the sample rate issue.

Wake up call for Steinberg dev. team

Did either of you two try to switch sample rates using WDM drivers?

No. I can't think of any reason I would use the WDM drivers over ASIO.

Hi,

a short update, though this isn't scientific by any means.

The frequency of dropouts I suffer from over here has decreased after installation of the Windows 10 November update. They are not gone, but it got better.

Sadly, on the lowest meaningful level this can be due "tons of" Windows components. But there's hope for the best.

The latest knowledgebase update for El Capitan (just out) shows scheduled updates for various hardware/software as coming some in late November, some in late December. In this table, the MR816 update is shown as tba, same as on the Windows support table. I'm getting a sinking feeling about the support for this hardware. Yamaha has a pattern of fairly quick hardware life cycles. They promised 64 bit drivers for the 01x, which NEVER CAME. They officially dropped that device from support instead.

When this happened, they offered a loyalty discount on buying a new piece of their hardware. That's how I ended up with my MR816. If they offer a similar program for MR816 owners, here's hoping it comes sooner, rather than later. Else, it may come too late to prevent me from jumping ship.

I own a great many UAD plugins, and might otherwise be interested in a new Apollo, but the last OS supported on my UAD hardware is Windows 7!!! With this kind of support, I'm strongly considering selling the whole lot of it and buying a different brand of gear. I'd consider a recommendation.

Another week goes by and nada from Steinberg. My new DAW is coming over the holiday break. I suspect I will be adding a new audio interface system as well; one manufactured by a company that has a history for quality and customer support - as in not Steinberg.

I'm so happy, I'm just a hobbyist.

Nevertheless
I think we will get an driver update. Otherwise Steinberg would heavily undermine their invests to build up a semi-pro/pro claim over the years. Afaik, the drivers have to be written and provided by Yamaha, not Steinberg. Kicking the mother company's asses might not be that easy in the end.
I also really can't imagine that Steinberg is aiming at putting their audi-interfaces in the same ballpark as modern disposable electronic gadgets like mobile phones in the long run. Imo, this sort of business is much too volatile.

Therefore I keep being optimistic. :-)

Interesting fact: changing sample rate in Ableton doesn't give any problems. I can switch to whatever rate I'd like and the MR816csx will keep on working just fine.

@Steinberg development: what's your reaction to that?

I use the WDM drivers for the Windows stuff(training vids etc) while using the Asio for my DAW. Can do both at the same time. This leaves a bad taste in my mouth, so no Cubase no controllers, no interfaces from steinberg.
Anyway, looking for a 2 channel interface for my iPad right now. Any suggestions(other than steinberg, this has got to last)? Maybe focusrite or Rme?

No more dropouts during plain audio playback, it seems!

Yamaha Steinberg FW Driver Utility (3.) was the key. After checking all those - and literally every other old times computer voodoo stuff - combinations it is/was changing IEEE1394 Buffer Size from Small [Default] to Large in the end. The kudos goes to Felipe Garcia for providing the crucial link. Thanks a lot. :D

PS: don't ask me why this change is required after the Win 10 upgrade has been done on the very same hardware.

I had to do this in Windows 7 after upgrading From Cubase 7.5 to Cubase Pro 8. 8 was unusable with the identical hardware and settings I have used successfully in 7.5. Of course, my system latency increased by doing this, despite the claims of better performance in this version.
