Nuendo 6.5 announced

This is the original thread.

Hmmm … strange.
My guess it’s a problem specific to your setup. FF800?
Have you looked at the RME forum?
Sure it can be a combination of things, which triggers a bug in Nuendo. Not saying that there is no problem.
Only thing I know it’s an isolated problem, which makes it pretty much impossible to chase.
The only clue we have for now is FF8000, MacPro and the OS …

Fredo

ok I will check out the rme forum. But the FF800 is not a rare interface. And if it isn’t the FF800 then that means that Nuendo is not save for recordings on some Macs. I get this mistake a lot. If I do ADR for two hours, Nuendo breaks up the recording at least 2-3 times.

Best,

Max

We have used nuendo 6 recording for countless hours, and it never falls out of record.
We ought to have seen the same thing if it’s a general issue.
We did get aborts Occaisionally using 5.5 though.
OSX fireface 800.

As reported in the original thread, much of the same gear and have never had anything like this happen on either desktop or laptop. Often recording for many hours at a time.

Chewy

Yes, we have already concluded that it does not occur on many systems. But it does on some, since I am not the only one reporting it. And I am not using a home made computer, but a Mac Pro with only original software. So it does not seem to be save to use Nuendo 6 for recordings on certain Macs.

Best,

Max

Well I can’t seem to see from the quoted thread nor here that you did any major trouble shooting?
When programs misbehave you just have to.

Possible hardware issue? Check the front of the ff800 unit immediately after a failed recording, a bad fw connection or computer port can drop the connection briefly with the ff800 (without the computer giving a error message and it may still partially work). That caused similar issues for us a few years ago. Check that the computer led is green and not red.

Try another audio interface with different drivers (not fw).

Otherwise did you do the basics:
Did you remove all third party plugins?
Did you make sure the dongle was inserted in the computer USB port (not in a extender/hub)?
Did you run any additional software at the time?
Do you still have plenty of free ram when it cancels recording?
Do you mix 64&32 bit plugins?

The above takes just a few minutes to check and is not hard to do.

If any of the above changes the behaviour then you know where to keep looking.

If not, some more time might be needed. Get a fresh hard drive, do a fresh so install, no plugins, just install the drivers and Nuendo, test again.
If the problem is gone then the problem is on your old OS drive. Spend more time to fix it or just keep going with the new drive until you install something that seems to cause it again.

If you do all the above and the problem still persists then it may be a general issue with some specific mac model, but that is impossible to say without properly trying to find the culprit first.

Yeah thanks for that. I will do some more tests when I am less busy. But that takes time. It cannot really be the connection between the FF and the computer. I am recording most of the time now with Nuendo 5.5 and I don’t get any issues there. So if the whole setup works fine with Nuendo 5.5 and it does not with Nuendo 6 then I think it is very likely that there is something wrong with Nuendo 6. But it might be a plug in that is causing this, so will test that in time.

Best,

Max

How much is it gonna cost us to upgrade?

I just updated to N6 a couple of weeks ago. I was expecting a steep learning curve and a whole bunch of problems. Instead I’ve found it the most intuitive and easy update in my musical career. My only problem is that my new PC occasionally refuses to recognise I have a dongle unless I remove and replace it. But Hey, I can live with that and it’s probably the PC rather than the software.
The new interface is great but I got the impression from the forum that it was going to be a nightmare which makes me a bit confused about what the problems are but I have to say I am very, very happy. It even starts pretty quickly. Am I missing something?

Bring on N6.5!

I don’t think you are missing anything. I would not go back to 5.5 for any reason. N6 is working incredibly well for me, on my systems.

I don’t doubt that some people use it in ways I do not, with gear I do not, and may have encountered bugs I haven’t. I am not unsympathetic to them. However, sometimes I think people who are unhappy with Nuendo for whatever reason end up making this forum seem as though N6 is a bugfest. It is not.

I work intensely for days on end at 128 sample buffer on RME MADI with many plugins, including VEP linked to 2 slave computers, UAD, Komplete 9 Ultimate, Omnisphere, Nexus2, PoCo Virus, etc without issue. Super stable. Love the new Mixer. I don’t think we hear enough about that, hence your initial negative expectations.

So I’m with you. Thankful for N6. Bring on 6.5!

You can bring what you will.
As long as Nuendo keeps that toyish iMixer I will stay wit Nuendo 5 ond don’t waste another penny on Steinberg.

Hear, hear !!

+1

Any news about the new release?
Any news about the fix list?
Any news about the pdf manual?

It was supposed to be out in Q2, there must be something…

Who were you Hear-hearing, if I may ask?
(hoping it was me but suspecting it was not)

I predict you’re going to save yourself a lot of upgrade money over the next few years!

Hi Getalife
I added folkfreaks comment to make more obvious whos post I support.
And yes, we’ll safe a few bucks over this. Since I work with other DAWs and analog, as well, I can sit and wait till this mixer thingy and other beautfully messed-up innovations and changes have been either reverted or improved.
But one thing is quit true: N5 and N6 are very stabil and running well on RME and Win 8.1 64bit OS.

Cheers, Big K

I just went over to the 6.5 site to upgrade from 6.0.6. But there wasn’t an option to do so. It only starts the upgrades from 5.0. How much to upgrade from 6.X and when will it be availabale?

Looking at the n6.5 info on the Product site there is no mention of any changes to the MixConsole.

Given that there are so many users unhappy with the way the mixer has been developed in N6 could someone from Steinberg please let’s us know what, if any, changes have been made in N6.5?

+1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 (infinite)
