Can I hear VST plug-in fx as I record guitar?

I have software such as guitar rig 4 and amplitube.

However, at the moment, when I record guitar I just hear the direct clean sound.

Ideally, what I’d like to hear is the plug-in fx live as I play.

Is this possible? If so, how?

Press the monitor button as you record or put the FX on the mono or stereo in.

if your on a mac that is function is not available - direct monitoring

you can place the effect on the input channel but keep in mind if you do it this way you are committing the fx to the recorded version

Or you can route that channel through a group channel with those effects so it won’t print on your recorded version. It will be post input channel.
