Mac mini for Cubase 9.5

Hello. I am planning to buy a Mac mini (2014) for music production.

I am comparing a

Mac Mini i5 2.8 ghz, 16 gb ram, 256 ssd

vs.

Mac Mini i7 3.0 ghz, 8 gb ram, 256 ssd?

both specs falls into a price of my budget.
It is cpu power vs Ram.
inputs are very well appreciated from mac geniuses and cubase nerds.

I am currently using Cubase 8.5 (will upgrade soon to 9.5), Absolute 3, iZotope Ozone 6.
No 3rd party Vst Instruments, since Absolute 3 is really absolutely awesome plus cubase pro.

Thank you!

Either should work fine. We are using a 2012 with an I5, 8 gig of memory and a SSD. We do live 48 track to it all of the time with no hick-ups. Anyway, either of yours should work with no problems.

Bill

Thank you so much Bill for sharing your specs and how it works with you.

I got the i5 2.8ghz 16gig RAM and 256 ssd. just waiting for it to arrive…

Thanks

Hi dyems would you update this thread when it arrives ? I am in the same situation (CPU or RAM), but i guess i altså go for the RAM.

Hi…sorry for the late reply…

I got an i5 2.8Ghz, 16 gig RAM, 250Gb SSD, (ext SSD 250Gb)

Cubase 10 pro
Absolute 3
Ozone 8
Steinberg Ci2+

So far, the RAM reached around 4 to 6 Gig of usage. (VST instruments used)

the only issue is, “Rendering”. it is slower (coz my mac mini is just dual core). but not an issue for me…

performance: still rock solid…

Thank you
