The step sequencers have internal storage of your MIDI notes. The sequencer should play them when it’s triggered. You can export the contents of that internal storage to a normal MIDI/instrument track if you like. That’s generally a good idea, because the internal storage is limited and hard to edit. On the other hand, having it internal storage is good if you are playing live and want a loop.
