UEFI vs Legacy mode BIOS

Post by zaral »

Hi guys,
Im building a new Cubase rig with 10 and have been reading alot to prepare myself.

One thing im unsure of is UEFI vs Legacy mode for the BIOS settings.
I read post in Gearslutz where the user gained better performance when using Legacy mode.

Anyone here experienced the same? Or are you mostly running UEFI mode?

Here is my setup:

CPU: Intel core I9 9900K w/ Corsair H115i Pro
MB: Gigabyte Z390 AORUS MASTER
RAM: HyperX Fury Black DDR4 3200Mhz 2x16GB
SSD1 os: Samsung SSD 970 EVO PLUS 250GB NvMe
SSD2 samples:Samsung SSD 970 EVO PLUS 1TB NvMe
SSD3 projects: Samsung SSD 950 500GB
Soundcard: RME Fireface UFX
OS:WIN10 pro

Thanks

UEFI

only difference is during boot - performance once booted is the same

Yes! UEFI is the new mode you should use. Legacy is the old and now will soon be phased out. Legacy mode is only useful if you want to be able to boot from for instance a CD or an old USB stick. Users that claim to have better performance with a DAW using legacy mode are fooling themselves or can be considered to spread 'fake news'. It's only applicable during boot/startup.
